It teaches you..
Ahh.. the joys of biking. It keeps making you learn new things everytime. just came back from a ride on the palm beach rd.
So what did we learn today -
4th Gear @ 14,000 RPM = 140 kph + nirvana to the ears
By the way there was this bloke on the same road riding a white Superbike who was very intent on showing how our Ninja is all show and no go (just kidding), as he blasted past me while I was doing 140. What amazed me is that he wasn't even wearing a helmet. I came up to him an knocked on my helmet and he just gave a smile ("yes I know I am not wearing a helmet") Is it somebody from xbhp?
So lesson no2 -
Notwithstanding the safety aspect, you can ride a bike at 200km/h without wearing a lid and the wind blast on the face won't be an issue, apparently.

Wind blast is NOT the reason for you to wear a helmet - though it helps. It's the single most important piece of safety gear you can use on a bike from 0 -200+ kmph.Originally posted by toolkit View PostNotwithstanding the safety aspect, you can ride a bike at 200km/h without wearing a lid and the wind blast on the face won't be an issue, apparently.
Ignore guys like him - stupid people grow on trees in our country and there are plenty more where he came from. Keep your lid on and live longer - at least enough to attend his funeral one day.

May be the rev limiter kicks in until you go for your second service at 6k kms,. after that some adjustments are made..Originally posted by vkavadia View PostI dream of that sound

I touched 14.5k rpm.. when my bike completed around 9000 kms , and not rev. limiter set in..

There is no setting for the revv limiter. Its not a switch that can be turned on or off.Originally posted by vkuchhal View PostI touched 14.5k rpm.. when my bike completed around 9000 kms , and not rev. limiter set in..

Revv limiters can either cut off the ignition or fuel supply depending on how the ECU is designed to work.
AFAIK, there is no revv limiter on the ninja. I have touched 14500 RPM on my ninja and was shocked to learn there was no cut off. I recollect some other members insisting there is a limiter that works at 13500 rpm but it doesn't on my bike... not that i intend to prove them wrong and i dont intend to shift over 12500 rpm either.
Just ensure you dont enter the red zone often or it can lead to damaged engine internals.ATGATT - Because hospital ceilings are boring !!!

Will you switch bikes with me please? I want a Ninja without rev-limiter.
My limiter cuts in at 13.5 - 14K. For sure.

Definitely not limited to 13.5K RPM, I think the limiter is at around 14K RPM as I stayed at that rpm for some 3-4 seconds and the RPM didn't rise any further. But it doesn't explain how some folks have managed 14.5 K rpm, maybe the limiter is not very hardly configured to interfere and kicks in gently, so if someone is in a lower gear like 1st or 2nd where the revs rise very quickly, they could see the needle going past 14K RPM as well.Originally posted by vkavadia View PostI dream of that sound

But as n_aditya said, do this frequently and you could end up with a potentially damaged engine.
@sunnyside_up! - I understand your feelings about safety and agree but kindly refrain from giving such harsh remarks about anybody.

have not yet observed if my bike crosses the 14k or sticks @ 14k will try it soon
and let you know.
but what i feel is as your engine grows a little older like crossing 5000km mark
the engine tends to free up thats when your bike starts moving better and performance does go a little better as well
may be thats when these guys are able to clock the 14.5k rpm as their bike engines
are now free and have opened up properly
just saying this can be a possibility.
last time on the ride we rode a ninja which was a year old done 10000km and was
used properly trust me that bike was performing better than 5 other new ninja's
all with around max 3000km done.
