  • After going through many posts it is really intriguing to find that a few Ninjas do seem to have problem in reaching higher speeds as it ages. Thanks to contribution from various members ,it is obvious that the problem can be narrowed down to just two possibilities.
    1. Engine oil..use of wider and lower weight oil than 20 W 50.
    2. Clutch slip .
By changing the oil to standard one , we can rule out the first suspicion, and if this does not give a cure, then Clutch slip is the only other possibility for Engine RPM increase without Increase in speed.

One month parking is not a too wide a time gap warranting oil change. You had done 2,000 Kms on this oil,and so may warrant a change..Please check the oil color and quality. If it had turned black then you need to change it.

It is Dhamija Auto in Karol Bagh and Deepak Automobiles just opposite to that. I got mine from Dhamija Auto. Both are direct dealers of Motul and get Motul products from Motul distributors here in Delhi.
I also got Motul oil for ZMA from here only and it is going fine.
        Thanks for the information.

any other things should i change(like break oil..etc)??
Not really required. Engine oil has a shelf life of 5 years so if your bike has been sitting around for a month its no big deal.

Just change the oil every 5k kms and you will be fine.

All other checks like brake fluid, coolant, etc. should be done as per the daily checks every time before you ride. The checklist can be found under the pillion seat.

Now, first in place the engine oil and secondly the worst case scenario clutch slippage. But, after getting your views it might be the oil.
Tomorrow will be going to the PBK as regional manager will be there and will look into this issue and nothing goes right I'll switch to Bajaj oil and check again.

Earlier, my bike could easily do 150KMPH in upright position but now struggles to do 140KMPH even if I am crouched in.
Hey, sorry for the late reply. I am using Motul Semi Synth 5100 15W50 (thinner than the 20W50 recommended in the manual). I use this as the oil is thinner and will circulate faster in cold conditions. Also there will be lesser strain on the oil pump and moving parts get lubricated much faster when the engine is cold.

Since you are in Delhi and it gets colder than here in Blore, i would suggest 10W50 oil from Motul (5100 semi synth). Your engine will perform better with this oil IMO. Avoid the bajaj oil.

I have clocked over 13500 kms and have been using the motul 15w50 semi synth oil since 4000 kms. I last changed it at 10k kms and have no performance issues. I touched 160kmph effortlessly on my last weekend ride and it was a rolling acceleration in 6th gear. My clutch was never adjusted unless the service mandated it.

I would suggest ninja owners to stay away from Yamalube. One of my buddies was using this in his R15 and the bike felt very sluggish and rough. Although its made by Motul i still asked him to switch to Motul SS 5100 and he is very happy today. His bike performs better and is smoother with the motul oil. I wouldnt take a chance with this oil in my bike.

P.S. No offence to Yamalube lovers.

          • Hey Guys..encountered a weird problem with her today morn.

The bikes been parked for about 2 weeks because of the rains. Woke up early to get her out of the covers, clean her up and put under the covers again.

When i started the bike it revved to slightly above 2k which is normal. However once i gave the throttle a small twist (to 4k) the rpm continue to move up despite letting go off the throttle. It climbed up all the way to 6.5k and stayed there for a good 5 seconds, before starting to come down very slowly back to 2k (easily took about 15 seconds to come down).

Had to head to office so did not explore further. Any pointers as to what could be wrong?

            thanks

Check if the throttle is getting stuck and if the radiator is free from muck and dirt. Do not blip the throttle when the engine is cold. Let it warm up or let the engine idle until the needle on the temp gauge reaches the "C" mark.

the throttle wasn't stuck for sure, but yes, the radiator does need to be cleaned. But why should that have such a significant impact?

I'm guessing once the bike heats up it should not happen, but if it because of some other reason and the bike revs up on her own while driving, its gonna be trouble

Thanks Buddy for giving your views over this.
Delhi is hotter than Banglore even in mornings and during the day it is hotter.

Even if it is colder, I always start ripping the bike when attains an optimum temperature i.e. when the temp gauge needle is at least half way up so when engine is hot and oil grade should not make any difference here if using 15W 50 or 10W 50 as at higher temperatures viscosity is same in both the grades i.e. 50.
Please correct me if I am wrong here.

The road opposite to this is Arya Samaj road, it will go in the Karol Bagh main market where you could find Bike/car accessories/repair shops.

I dont see why there should be an issue. Its a top-up cover and can be opted for at anytime. You only have to pay the top-up cover charges and that too on a pro-rated calculation.

The insurance guys dont offer this cover proactively and i was asked to keep mum on this. Reason being, the ninja is a high risk bike and such covers can cause losses to them.

                            • For Ninja Riders(Mostly Bangalore and nearby area).looking for fabricated paddock stand (range around 800-1200 bucks),

The stand is likely to look like :

                              http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motorb...cbr250r-5.html

This stand is a perfect fit for cbr, but needs to a bit redesigned for ninja, and we will also be working if is can be made a bit compact or fold-able.

                              Do let me know.
                              RIP Marco

i am having the same doubt, spoke with the manager and he was also saying the same thing that it cant be done.

ya they are very reluctant even in mentioning the details(they didnt mention me about the this when i got the policy got renewed) and just after renewal of my insurance i saw your post here mentioning nil-dep scheme(unlucky me)
