Any inputs on how this problem can be dealt with.

This problem is observed in most of the N250 in India and abroad. We have 9 N250 in Pune xBhp group and 8 of them display this tendency.

This is called as head-shake. If you rev the bike above 8-9k and completely leave accelerator and remove both your hands, the head (handle bar) will start shaking violently. The bike would not be unstable and would continue riding in fairly straight line but it is quite scary. In my bike's case, even the tail shakes.

I had lodged a formal complaint with Bajaj website. Their senior service people met me at local service center and this head-shake was demonstrated to them. For comparison, another bike was also used and it showed similar (but less violent) head-shake.

These senior service people told me that they had a similar problem initially with P220FI and they found out that it was because of uneven tire wear. Same is the case with N250.

I politely refused to agree to their conclusion and requested them to prove what they were saying. Now in next 8-10 days, they will be fitting (only for trial) out new tires on my bike and will demonstrate to me that the bike does not head-shake. If it is the case, then we have to agree that it is being caused by uneven tire wear.

However, all the international forums have mentioned this problem and it is said that it is due to cone-set setting. It is said to be extremely tricky to achieve perfect setting and if the setting is off even by a small bit, bike will head-shake. (disclaimer : I do not have any engineering background / knowledge so may be wrong here)
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

    • ^^ Just drawing out of my experience with the P220 here.

But this head shake usually is induced due to a worn out cone-set, and replacing it usually solves the issue. The wear is a little faster if the bike is ridden on bumpy/broken roads more often.

Unevenly worn out tyre will not cause a head shake, but it will pull unevenly to a side on roads where the surface is not smooth.

Yes It is Due to uneven tyre surface / tyre wear. i had the same problem with my P220 few months ago. i took it to the Bajaj SVC, the guy over there told me the problem & demonstrated it by Changing Type(for trail) with other one. after that i rode and the andble was constant even in 70+KMPH. later i bought new tyre and quite happy the problem is not yet seen till now...

Oh that was a long time ago when he had asked me whether the tail panels can be painted in body color as he got them in black.
I said my painter is very skilled&has matched color of my metallic brown Verna (now sold), so it shouldn't be an issue for him.
However, he didn't get it done finally.

I was thinking more on the lines of gettin my black tail panels painted green...spending 4k on cosmetics is a bit high for me...has anyone tried painting their panels instead of replacing 'em ???

                  • ^^Oh Good! finally i can touch up the small scratch on the front fender

Oh and BTW i tested leaving handle bars at 100 till 80 for 3 times and except once the bike was rock solid, no wobble or vibration. The first time however the bike went a little bit towards right.

Also tested in 2 times at 80 to 60 and no wobble here as well.

Speed is not relevant for headshake; rpm is. You need to rev it above 8-10k rpm and then leave handle, bike would shake its head even at 60 kmph.

Wish I could give inputs, but can't unless I test it for myself. This concerns brakes, so I don't want to second guess until I am absolutely sure.
