I had faced this problem before. In my case it was close to 50 kms . I gave the bike for an oil change but they took 6 days to deliver and when I got it the low fuel lamp was glow(when I gave the bike it had enough fuel to go over 50 kms before the low fuel lamp would glow). Now I don't mind these things because I am fed up with those d**k heads.
btw, is there any problem if we don't change the spark plugs on time? Mine is cloked over 18 k kms and had recently done the 4 th service. Service manual recomends to change at 12 k but they didn't changed it in 3rd service. This time I said them to change it when I gave the bike. But when they delivered the bike after 3 days mechanic said he forgot (some other things too). Same is with the valve clearance. I can hear a slight tappet noice like sound but mechanic says it is perfectly fine. And they still couldn't fixed the weired noice coming from the front wheel. As someone clarified here I asked them to grease the speedo worm assembly, but no use.
50km. I guess I am a bit luck with just 17km. but then we really can't question them because in chennai you only have one dealer so if you have to get the work done we should bare these things. Very sad though
The entire travelogue is nothing less than an absolute marvel. The bits and pieces of wit and humour in between the narration make it more enthralling.
Guys need a help
My odometer reading is around 13k and 3rd servicing is due,
1) When one should change the air filter element ? ( if possible pictures)
2) why to put few drops of oil on air filter after cleaning it
3) what is ideal fluid used to clean the air filter petrol or oil since during last servicing mechanic at thane service station advised me to clean air filter with diesel
You can change the spark plug yourself or at nearby mechanic. R15 spark plugs are straight fits but the originals also don't cost much.
This is most probably chain tensioner noise. It feels like tappet noise but is not.
I know but I am afraid to do that because manual mentions it should be done by authorized service center. And I think when putting a sparkplug its clearance is important. Stock spark plugs cost Rs 270 per piece and I have heared R15 plugs are the same pice and costs only about 70.
Drive chain slack is within recommended level and lubed. Or did you mean timing chain tensioner?

I think 17 kms is okay because they need to goto the nearest highway for a proper testdrive. Geting out of chennai city will take some kms I think. Same here but only one service center in entire state and I think its the worst in the country

1, Every 2 years as per owners manual. Ninja is using a sponge type air filter. Advantag of these type filter is it can be used for a long time by cleaning and re using.
2, Eventhough the sponge type filter will filter out most of the dust, some minute dust bites will pass through the filter. Oil in the air filter will attract these minute particles so they will be sticked to the filter and won't get past the filter.
3, kerosene is the ideal fluid to clean the air filter. Low flash point solvents like petrol and diesel is not recommended to clean filters because of safety issues.

Reason: typo

R15 NGK G-Power (platinum alloy tip) costs around Rs.150/piece.
Go for it, truly value for money.

I did not mean chain slack or timing chain tensioner. I meant drive chain (the chain that connects front sprocket and rear sprocket) tensioner. It makes a typical noise (which feels like tappet noise) if not set properly. It is a 15 minute job to set it right.
Hey Guys, anyone who wanna team up with me for a Leh circuit run, end of Aug- Sept beginning. The friends i was pairing up with might ditch me and drop out and I really want to do this in 2012.
Thanks,
Gurpreet
PS: Reason for going in Aug- Sept is that my right hand is fractured as of now and the date when plaster will be cut open is 11th Aug and ofcourse Leh festival happens in Sept, right?

Reason: grammar :)

Chani slack is correct. The noise is coming from the engine side I think.

I am not talking about chain slack. I am talking about setting of chain tensioner. If it is slightly out of sync, it creates a noise like tappets. I had to get it rectified three times in last one year. It is a small job and costs nothing at service centre.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.
guys,seems i have a problem,though not sure.
When i go over humps or potholes(not too big),i get a kind of extra 'thud' kind of feedback on my handle. It wasnt there i the past. What could be the problem?

i think its cone set loose .. this is a small circular nut on the handle bar .. where triple tree main part joins the chasis [some thing like that ], its 2 min job

Oh sorry, got it now. Is it the rubber padding in the upper part in between swingarm and chain?
