Thanks man. The "number" of kilometres also adds to its current condition.

It has run 5920km only in over 1 and a half years now.

I'm not sure if it is the battery or the starter motor or something else.
What you can try is use someone else's battery and see if it starts. Else it would be something else.
I would suggest you start from the battery and then move forward.

I faced a similar problem sometime back. Whenever I pressed the Self-Start button the ignition wouldn't crank but would make weird noise and eventually die out. The problem was diagnosed to be the carbon brush not making contact with the starter. I suggest you also get that checked before you change your battery. I can say that as this problem happened to me after I changed my battery. Hope your problem gets rectified soon.

                ^^ Interesting choices.

So you already ride a duke 200 which is a fun bike. You might have bought it around the same time I got my Ninja (Feb 2012)

Anyways, between KTM RC390 and a Ninja250 (used) I would always chose a 1st hand. Ninja 250 is now outdated but the thing I love about it is the load of accessories available globally. Moreover its bigger than the RC regarding dimensions. I wanted a bike which has a wheelbase of 1400 or more. Only Ninja had that within my budget

Though RC390 will be faster and more advanced compared to the Ninja, but it might not have that sort of bullet proof engine and reliability. Again, I'm saying it "may" not, I'm not sure, only time will tell.

For the feel of a twin cylinder, you actually don't have much choice within 2-4L budget. So it's either the old 250 or new 300

I've actually had enough of single cyl bikes .. I'll upgrade to a litre class in 3yrs time , so I want a buffer bike which will fulfill my multi cyl needs.. hate the Hyosung gt250 , so the only option is a used ninja ..
I just love the way ninja heart feels.
                  What abt the maintenance?..
Fuel expenses r not a prob .. apart from that

                    Cool that's a good plan.
Maintenance is not a big issue unless you need replacement parts. Simple things like foot pegs are around 800₹ for one piece. Mine runs less so it is serviced once a year. That costs less than 1700₹. I recently changed front brake pads for 1600₹.
Spare parts are available online for reasonable cost. Bajaj sells it at higher price. You just have to get hold of a good source. If this was your only bike it would have been easy, but since you also own a duke I can't say.
Considering your planning on an SBK in 2-3 years that might not be such a big issue managing the ninja.

Going above 150 depends on a lot of factors. Perhaps there was too much windblast on that particular day.
                                Also, check your tyre pressure.
