    Well im not too experienced with the Ninja 250R, but since the oil capacity is 1.9 Litres, I guess if they say a change at 12K kms is to be done, it makes sense to me.
    The ducati dealer I once spoke to told me that the service intervals are at every 12K kms. With ducatis being of higher engine capacity and I assume higher enegine oil capacity aswell, if they are recommended to be serviced at 12K, its not difficult to believe that it could be the same for this Kwaker aswell

        Oil capacity has nothing to do with it. Oil quality(brand) has everything to do with it.
        bajaj reccomends Castrol
        For my third servicing I remember how the service guys were out of Castrol and were hence to use HP oil. Gawd you should have seen that HP Oil Can.

        semi synthetic should be changed at 3k kms and fully synthetic can be changed at 5k to 6 k. Thats assuming decent rpm riding. If you are a joker (like I am) who shifts at 11k rpm all the time and are riding it like you have stolen it then the oil change sure needs to be done say a 1000 kms earlier.

        Thats my uncertified opinion. Guys please dont go in for an oil change at 12K kms. 12kms is ridiculous. Give your Ninja some love

        when i ride bullet before my bullet was solid condition but i once race with a Ceilo car and my engine size. mechancic say bullet is good bike but no racing. it is good for three people and very powerful.
        one day when i become rich i but ducati and then I race with cars. not now.

          Yes, I didnt mean neutral, sorry, I basically meant, the transmission gets disengaged from the engine.

            I guess he is saying that since it is multicylindered. For eg.cars have oil change every 10K kms. that too on mineral oil!
            But there is no comparison in the revving RPMs of cars&bikes.
            I fail to understand why they are recommending a 12K oil change for the Ninja!
            The max I have seen a synthetic oil lasting is 5-6K kms.
            Maybe you guys should ask some of the bigger bike owners how often they get their oil changed.
            Quench my thirst with gasoline!

              Absolutely, but all these bikes are designed for different conditions. In India with these tough conditions, we should change that oil before 12K (ATMO)... I will be better for the engine for sure to changing the oil early.

                Manufacturers generally mention the oil change interval as much less than what it can really hold good upto. Not sure what exactly in the Ninja makes it run for 12K without an oil change especially when the company doesn't specify the usage of fully Synthetic Oil like cars like Punto & Linea do.

                It is not about multi cylinder engine alone. Cars do not have their clutch plates in engine oil (they use a dry type clutch) and hence less dirt / particles / and friction in the crank case would be lower - helping longer oil life. Though I believe this is not the only reason for giving longer engine oil life. Even a liquid cooled engine helps. But still there is something that we don't know and have to find out - that is helping the long stay of engine oil. Even the BMW's sold by Hero group had 10K service interval. Who saw synthetic oil in India those days?

                or, is it simply a typo :-?

                  i agree with ten hut.. 12k oil interval is far too long.. Im also looking at changing oil like on the R15. 3000 kms. And the oil filter.

                  I dint know that the oil filter on the R15 gets changed once at 1000 kms, and then at 9000 kms or something.. i just kept getting em changed with every oil change!! lol!!!

                    False Neutrals ! They are common untill the tranny and the gears have bedded in properly. This doesnt happen everytime u throttle the bike right ?
                    If its a come and go phenomenon then its alright.

                    I still get false neutrals on my bike. Say once a month or something.

                      We got our Linea serviced yesterday at 11k kms and the oil that came out was almost like water, mechanic said the life of the oil was almost over whereas company recommends 15k oil change interval. These long oil change intervals are impossible to be religiously followed in our country due to the terrible traffic.

                      Whatever it is, Indian conditions are quite harsh on the engines and a 12K oil change interval for a bike is really too much, that too when they are using Castrol, Gawd..

                      I am sure all Ninja owners would be better off changing the oil much before the 12k mark, even 5K looks far fetched but one can go such distance with a Full synth oil. When guys dont put Castrol in their 220's, wonder how Bajaj expects them to use the same oil in a machine worth 3L +.

                        Cars have 4 cylinders&make their power very low in the rev range so possibility of engine oil getting spoilt in 3-4K kms.is less. Add to that the dry clutch point you mentioned. Bikes are a different funda.
                        Even my Fiero F2's manual mentions 5K kms.on mineral oil!
                        I think manufacturers should be notified to make necessary changes in manuals!

                        I think for the Ninja, 5K kms.should be the max safe drain period for the oil even if it is fully synthetic.

                          @Coolboy Not trying to debate mate but I have seen several Maruti's (not even new ones) doing fine for 10K KMs on a regular Servo / Shell / Gulf mineral oils. The oils don't get very bad at the end.

                          As for the oil in Linea's, those are very thin Synthetic Oils. They seem like water many times even when pouring into the engine. They don't feel as sticky as mineral oils at normal temperatures. Now, I don't know whether the oil that's drained from your car was good or gone but this is my experience with engine oils.

                            But since the manual recommends the change at 12K would it not be better to get in touch with bajaj or the concerned authorities for more clearification.

                            Obviously whether or not we get any response is a different story.

                                The need to ask Bajaj officials resulted out of the very 15 page debate/discussion.
                                Without having had a discussion how could we have come to a conclusion that one needs to ask Bajaj.

                                Asking Bajaj is gonna get you an answer somewhere on the following lines :
                                "Its mentioned in the manual so it is safe to change oil at 12k."

                                The question is...if Bajaj tells you to do it...will you still do it ? I mean...it already is telling you to do it at 12k.

                                P.S. I dont think its worth bothering Bajaj guys over oil change. Just change it at 3k kms. You cant be short of Rs 300 every 3000 kms. Not if you own the Ninja :P
