I used motul 7100 for 5K and it still had life when I got it drained. I used Shell ultra for next 4.5K and I think it leaked as the mechanic could drain only 150-200 ml

Edit: Btw, why and how do these leaks happen? Is the drain nut at fault here?

FS oils have very thin molecules. ZMR engine being old tech doesn't have very tight tolerances and those molecules seep through!
I used Mobil1 10w40 in the past. It's the best oil for our bikes, sadly it seeps through. Used it for 2 fills of 4k km each. Drained roughly 750 ml after second fill.

From what I know, these oils are way too damaging for the oil seals and the packing and thus trigger the leaks.

If so much oil is leaked, shouldn't the leak be visible ? 800ml is not a small quantity.

Ideally one should see a puddle under the bike in his parking space. Even if it flings while riding, you'd observe gunk near the gear lever.

I think it was mechanics story then, because I havent seen too mich of oil leak except some times there would be small visible leak on the lower fairing part, just below the engine cover.

After being hit by autorickshaw's twice in the last week, the thought kept striking my mind that maybe faired bikes are not for Indian cities. So, went to the KTM showroom to test ride the Duke 390 naked bike. But, instead of 390 the showroom had only an RC390 for test ride.
So, took a test ride of RC390 today. Fairly long ride of around 30-35 kms. Here are my observations with respect to ZMR:
                    1. The power is in no way intimidating for a ZMR rider. In fact, the bike felt pretty tame. The ride is pretty similar to ZMR.Maybe bcoz of 2 factors-
                    > ZMR's acceleration,
                    > 390's Metzelers & ABS.
                    2. Has lot of vibes lower down the rev range. Too much I'd say.
After my Test ride, when I sat on my ZMR, whoaaaa it felt heavenly. It's so so soo smooth. Wowwww. I love my bike. Probably I did gud run-in. A bit Motoman style.!! :respect:
                    3. However, the best thing about the 390 is the gearing. I sooo love it. They are so long. ZMR's gears (post Hero badging) are so-so short. Hate it.
                    4. FE is too low though. ZMR's mileage is awesome.
My regular quota is about 4.90 ltrs for Rs.300/- which runs for about 220 kms.

After much thought, I've realised that our ZMR is a brilliant bike. Maybe selling it would not be a gud idea at all.!!

Full tank range of 200kms can't be ignored on highways which is most irritating.

If u talk about impressing, then yes today ZMR has impressed me unlike anything else. But, it is the nature of life. You get used to the things you're attached to. But, the reality is I might have to part with my bike as one side fairing is damaged from an auto attack!

Leaving all that aside, the moment I sat on my ZMR from the RC390, it felt so good. In the RC, whole time my hands & legs were vibrating like crazy. While the ZMR is so-so smooth from the word go.! Yes, power does matter. But, that is only one aspect of riding. Motorcycling is not only about how fast you go because in that case the leisurely Harleys would not have survived. Parameters like comfort and refinement make quite a difference in the case of premium motorcycles.

All this time, I was thinking that ZMR was inferior & old school. Not at all. If you value refinement & comfort, ZMR's a great package. & that is why I nowadays see so many ZMR's(2014 model though-- correction ZMA's which exactly look like ZMR's[emoji4]) & R15's in my city.

same Motul 7100 10w40 which i used but see the difference on the bottle design. Any thoughts?

Bottle design can change over time. This is the what I had put. Earlier image was from Google search.

Bang.. same one that I used. So during change, you take 2 bottles to the SVC? I plan to change next week.

Oil seals replacement, does it require draining the oil? Thinking of getting those replaced, just to be on safe side. what say?
