  • Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR

Finally, after 5 years and 5 months my ORIGINAL battery is dying! I had it load tested 6 months back, it was working fine then.
    @psr, @Divya Sharan
    1. Can you guys pour some knowledge, why do people go for the Amaron 9ah battery? Does it last longer or require less charging? BTW I have got Osram NB plus 55W bulb, and roots smartone dual horn (i think it's rated 1.5a or 2a), that's it.

    2. Someone has posted pics of his modification to the battery cage for the Amaron 9ah battery. But the pics don't show the steps involved. Can anybody post more pics of the steps required?

    3. I have talked to Amaron dealers in my city, they can provide me Amaron 7ah battery, but it will take a day or two for supply. Anybody tried it in ZMR? Will it make any difference?

Please suggest me which battery to go for, considering the running is too low and infrequent. I hardly drive it for 300-500 kms a month, I mostly drive around in my car and only take the motorcycle when I am unsure about parking availability at the place I would be going. Or for occasional weekend rides.

Frankly speaking, I wish to sell it off, but it's not a compulsion, I won't sell it for cheap. Please refer to my modifications:

I know I have completely changed the looks, but why do the buyers/dealers talk about "originality"? If anything, the so called "original" ZMR paint scheme was less tasteful than this. I have changed it from "black, red & golden" to plain "black and silver", with VFR (old models) type honda wings.
I have kept it in absolutely well condition, and serviced it on schedule even though the running is too low. Till date, it has completed only 16000 kms.
What is the highest price I would be able to sell it for?

Just replace with an SF Sonic 7AH battery. Will be a direct fit.

People fit Amaron 9AH so that they need not worry about the load. For example, an HID. It takes up to 3A just to light up! That'd be too much for the OE battery.
Then you have Roots, Windtones (dual horn setups), auxiliary lamps and what not! Hence, a larger battery.

But, these batteries take longer to get fully charged as well. With the kind of running you have, they won't satisfy the money and effort put into it!

Finally, selling price would depend upon the age of the vehicle and the health of various components. Also, some folks may ask for a lesser price for that vinyl job as well!
(Though I feel it doesn't spoil the looks of the bike.)
Keep 10% depreciation per year and add maintenance charges. I guess you'd be looking at figures under 50k.

Thanks bro, you were right, there was no need to waste time/effort for that Amaron 9ah battery. I googled sf sonic dealers and found one. Bought the sf sonic mobiker 7ah battery. As soon as I installed the battery, the self start took milliseconds to start the engine (just like a new motorcycle)! Whereas for the past 2 years it was a little sluggish.

Also, what is the type of front indicator bulbs? I think they consume too much wattage and wish to put low powerered led in its place. Any suggestions?

Let the indicators be! They're seldom used to cause a drag on the battery. Instead, change pilot lamps and number plate lamp to T10 LEDs.

During my last 2 months work on spares and getting my bike back to perfection, one thing which I did intentionally was not providing SVC a fully synthetic oil. I let them use their own oil. So 1 week in, and I can clearly notice the slight roughness and front footpegs vibes at higher speeds. I've been using Motul 7100 and Shell ultra for the last 15 months or so, maybe this is the reason i can easily notice the roughness now.

However, I am not 100% sure I am right. Can this also be because of the new parts (timing chain kit, rockers/adjusters, camshaft) kind of running in?

Hero oil is probably good for 500kms at max on zmr !

Not really, I have used Hero oil on my ZMR and it lasted for 1500 kms at max and anything more than that will turn Engine oil into Water

Depends on riding pattern as well as traffic conditions. Like my ~60 km daily to and fro commute in B2B BLR traffic kills Hero oil in 2 weeks.

Hi guys, here is a really sad story!! I bought my ZMR 1.5 years ago and from day 1 I felt the harshness in the engine. I rode many bikes like, Unicorn, Splendor, CBR 150, CBR 250 and I always felt THAT why my ZMR is not as smooth as these bikes. I am not talking about vibrations but the roughness or harsh engine. You can feel that on 40 or 50 km/h speeds.. Also the service center guys totally SUCK. They don't know anything and they always fail to detect problems. I managed to ride 16000 kms on this bike but I am now tired. I want to make my bike smooth. I have changed the oil to Shell AX7 Semi Synth and the bikes run better than before but not smooth. Now there is a new problem in my bike, there is a weired noise from front tyre of my bike.. The brakepads are perfectly fine as I changed them few months ago. The noise is like squech or scratch something like that.. this bike is getting into new problems each and every week...

I am thinking to sell this bike now. I am really tired to harsh engine as I can't manage to commute 60 kms daily on this vibrator. I still love this bike as it's the only one "stable" bike.. I managed to ride this thing on a half foot wide and 40 fool long concrete slab and managed to cross the broken road.. lol other bike walas was just looking at me... because I get the confidence on this bike which I can't on the other bikes.. but harshness lol!!!

I will go one last time to service center and if the problems still arise, I will have no other option that to sell the bike

A special thanks to Divya bhai as he always recommends me new things!! Because of him I still use this bike or I should have sold it weeks ago..But I feel really pitty as I message him only when problems arise. Sorry for that as I am really busy with my animation job (we make motu patlu btw :P) I have to work almost 12 hours a day.. I hope you guys don't mind.. I will go to service station today or tommorrow and if you guys suggest me something then I'll be more than thankfull

Try Motul 7100 10w40 fully synthetic. Motul is giving me much smoother ride compared to any other oil on my zmr. And I do change fully synthetic oil @ 3-3.5k kms !!

Agree with that. 1L is not really enough for the bike right? I think I'll buy 2 of these and keep the remaining oil for next oil change.

FS oils would induce leakage in the long run.
