Jokes apart, how long did you take to get the hang of it?
BTW, does the ZMA have the same problem too?
See it isn't a problem at all. When pushing from 2nd to 1st if it gets to 1st then what are u doing wrong?
Ans: pushing it too hard mate. So, simply just give a slight shove instead of a huge kick. that's it. moreover, if u can't lock the front handlebar. what do u do? move the key to off position & then again to the lock position. U've got to do something similar. I get it done 100% of the time. Though it did take me 4-5 days to learn the same. This shud not be one of ur "reasons" to not choose the ZMR.
I'll tell u with the ZMR u'll get the highest fuel efficiency amongst premium bikes. Gives a constant 38-40. Tho I do a lot of clutch riding. + Awesome pickup. Even better than R15 V2.0 with a top speed of 128 km/h which is enough for our Indian roads. Only problem I wud say are the tires. They shud've been at least a 120/130 profile which wud make us feel @ home @ high speeds.
If u want a reliable bike go for ZMR, CBR, R15. If u want a VFM package go for 200ns, Duke200 or CBR 250. To be frank ZMR, R15 & CBR 150 are overpriced if u look from the point of view of price-to-bhp ratio. But, bhp is not everything. I'd have bought a CBR 250 but it was way too pricey for me. So, I went wid the ZMR. Also, Duke200 is for the young & gaudy. So, kindly test ride the bike to see if it suits ur tastes.
@Night_Shade Which profile Michelin tires have u got in front?

Thanks for the tip, buddy, but I had figured that much.
I was giving the lightest touch I could manage, but it'd still skip the neutral! This was happening in both directions - up & down - 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. One reason I found it so unusual could be because I'm used to a Honda Unicorn since last 8 years, which IMHO provides one of the smoothest and most sure-slotted gear shifts among Indian bikes. (I've had even worse experience with some Bajaj bikes, where they'd not only miss the neutral, but also a whole gear at times! Seriously, I'm not exaggerating. )

Anyway, it's definitely not a deal breaker for me, and a slipping neutral is not going to make me reject this awesome bike!

The only major concern I have about the bike is it's "unpopularity". Why did it sell so very poorly? Am I overlooking some major issue with the bike?

And I totally agree with what else you said about the ZMR!
As a matter of fact it's kind of expected that it'd have better performance than the R15 v2.0 because of how the power is distributed (apart from the fact that it has a much smaller displacement). Although they have roughly the same power, the R15 achieves it at a higher RPM than the ZMR's. ZMR has significantly much more torque (which is what really matters, unless you are racing in full speed on a track!)

        Karizma ZMR:
        17.6 bhp @ 7000 rpm
        18.35 Nm @ 6000 rpm

        R-15 v2.0:
        16.8 bhp @ 8,500 rpm
        15 N.m @ 7,500 rpm

As for the tires, I also intend to get them replaced some time, but not immediately. Bot doesn't a wider profile tire void the warranty?

Once again, thanks for sharing your detailed feedback. Much appreciated!

          1. That's why I said it would take some time to gauge "how" slight one must touch the toe-shift lever. Took me around a month/1000 kms during initial riding days.
          2. Umm, people hate its fairing design as it looks un-proportionate. Also, its heavy. Looks are subjective though!

There are niggles with every bike and if you go through the thread you'd come to know about the problems we owners faced with our bike, but nothing serious enough to be a deal breaker for you. Its just that the market has lighter and more powerful bikes whereas HMC decided to take its own sweet time to upgrade its top of the line product; people moved elsewhere.

            2.
            Very true, Divya!
The bike does appear (and probably IS) front heavy! The tail end, though very elegant, seem a tad too small compared to the front. The 2014 model is even worse in this regard with a R15 v2 like rear and a huge front fairing that reminds us of European bikes of the 80s!

As for other lighter and more powerful bikes in the market, I'd rather prefer a heavier bike for the ride quality it'd provide, at the cost of slightly poorer acceleration and fuel economy. Also, given my rather large build, a lighter bike may look funny on me :-P

            1.
Yeah, I guess I don't have any option but to give it some time and try to acquire this very special skill. If so many people have managed, I know I'll too !

I guess the new ZMR is more proportionate than the current model. Only it has a rather tall visor that takes away some charm.
Also, ZMR has the best mileage in its class. In 2 years and 9 months, I have done ~37.2k kms and I get 41-42 kmpl in BLR city and 46+ on highways under speeds of 90 kmph. Over 90-95 kmph, I get city like mileage.
