On a serious note, since a 220 uses both projectors and halogen, I would suggest getting a HID for the lo-beam projector and a 55/60 ONB for the hi-beam. Gives u best of both worlds. And since the HID is inside the projector as it's meant to be used u will get amazing beam spread and lighting. If u are of the adventurous type, I have a spare 100/90 bulb which I can spare for ur trials(for hi-beam)!!
Yeah, troubling people on the opposite side of the road with HID's in a multi-reflector....you sure are giving hell.

I'll pass on the 100/90 lamps, at almost 4K for the headlight assembly its too expensive a thing to play around with!

Make that 2 HIDs on my R15 and one on my RTR!!! Thats why am suggesting a HID on the projector for u (the way its meant to be used).

I agree, but a HID consumes almost the same amount of power as a 35/35 man. So I dont think u will have an issue unless u keep it switched on without the engine running.

            It costed me 1950/-
When I compared ZAPPER C (stock) and ZAPPER VYDE, VYDE is a bit rounder in profile as compared to C which is a bit flat in profile....
I think cornering will be better wid VYDE....

            • Its not about the amount of power, its about cutting wires, introducing ballasts and what not thats the scary part. I've been told that the 220 is intelligent enough to detect that if there's a 35W bulb, it will consider it as a bad bulb and not turn on. So I would anyways need a 55W hid!

And, again no issues with keeping the headlights on without the engine, as there is a cut-off after a few secs (about: 10 secs I guess).

@BeastRider: The Zapper C 'looked' flatter as it has worn out and a worn out tire will tend to look flat compared to a newer tire. But yes, compared to a new Zapper C the Vyde has a slightly more rounder profile. But the contact patch is the visually the same (might be a few mm difference). Not sure if its any better for cornering, but since the Vyde is rounder the flickability has improved by leaps and bounds.

Well the its sticking to the road, coz its a new tyre!

Your previous tyre had worn out and was thus skiddish.

Btw, I noticed one negative of the Vyde. In sudden panic braking the Zapper C when new did not deviate from line, but thats not the case in Vyde. The bike's rear does a slight fishtail when the rear brakes are pressed hard!

                  I paid 1650/- for it!

But Praful sir, what about those bloody Scorpios, Civics, Citys giving hell to us bikers with their HIDs?? I think Bajaj should have provided HIDs as standard equipment.

Waisey, I have seen a 220 with HIDs. He (the owner) has done marvellous job. On High beam both the LAMP gives light which is just AWESOME. Cant be explained actually. It is absolutely must for touring in Night & ofcourse as most of us wears tinted visors, the need for HIDs cannot be more accentuated

Well, wat would be the difference between those "bloody scorpios, civics & city waalahs" and "us" if we do the same.

yes thatz true....contact patch of both the tyrez have minimal difference but therez considerable difference when U ride with VYDE & with C.
Well I changed my tire not b'coz it had worn out...but b'coz it had 6 puncturez...& I have ridden my bike for a month with those 6 puncturez....

See, my second point is strong if you can understand. HIDs do make a difference in Night sir. Seriously Also we should also give those car wallas a taste of their own medicine.

No sir. He was an ex-XBHPian. Arjun is his name.
if you see his bike coming in night, you would mistake it as an SBK, yes, SBK. Thats the power of HID on P220

                          • i seem to get most of the things for a lesser price !!
i got the night breakers for less and now the Zapper Vyde ! i had got it for 1700/- in which i am sure the dealer had a good margin.
As far as the difference btw C and Vyde - just felt more confident in Vyde at corners, but i suspect it to be a soft compound (relative) and life is a question mark. My experience so far with tires
                            Rear :
Stock - 16 k - slightly better straight line stability (compared to Vyde) - decent for cornering
Zapper Vyde - 10 K- good cornering compared to C
Michellin Sirac (120*90) -8 K and running- can't compare the grip levels with the MRF's - its in a world of its own. able to confidently take corners at same speed as Vyde. Awesome for off Roading and general touring. You also get the added avantage of more speed (4-5 KMPH) at same rpm compared to the Zappers because of higher profile. But a little drop in acceleration. The tire looks so huge, it is making the 220 look smaller In fact when measured diameter of SIRAC, it turned out to be more than the tires of 18 inch size !!

                            Front :
                            Two sets of stock - Zapper FS - okay okay...(first 16 K, second 14 K)
IRC Wild Flare - 90*90 - 17 -4K and running- The best one so far...lovely for cornering. Braking is very sharp - sticks to the ground. Speed error of ~ - 3 KMPH(shows less than true speed)

With IRC upfront and Sirac at rear, by braking distance has reduced drastically. They stick to the road and stop under hard braking, they don't skid.

HID = still can't convince my self. Need to see the difference may be.
ONB's are providing more than what i would need at night on highways - unless you are using your 220 as a taxi ofcourse !!

                            • My dad owns a Scorpio and we do lots of night - driving. The stock was 55/60. I actually thought of going the HID way, then I being a biker myself thought against it. Now I used an extra cut-off and am using 100/90W in the stock headlamps and added two 55/60 fog lamps(normal color). Now, inside city its always fog lamps. On illuminated highways, same. On non - illuminated highways fog+100/90 in low beam. Against trucks that fail to use lo beam, everything in hi - beam. U have just gotta see how they immediately switch to low-beam!!

And Praful, I think that might not be the case with the 220. The HID has a power socket which plugs into the socket of ur headlamp. No extra cutting of wires and stuff. Have a a look at the setup on my R15 and u will understand that it involves the least hassles.

                              P.S: Man, ur paranoid!!!

                              • the most irritating ppl i find on the highways at night are local lorry walas and more than that - busses from state run as well as travel agencies...volvos are an exception.
either these cars/highway lorries won't cause much of a problem. They switch to low beam when we do. The basic point is since drivers in these busses/lorries sit high up, its difficult to point the focus of the beam to their faces unless you compromise on your own visibility by focusing it high up. thats the reason regular night drivers use powerful high lights to keep themself safe - they can't make the busses / lorries dip their headlights either. On non illuminated highways, i ride on highbeam, when an opposite vehicle comes, i switch to low beam, if they don't switch to low, i switch back to high. Riding in highways at night with low beam is very dangerous - don't do it - this i am telling if you are riding 100+ even if there is a blinding vehicle from the opposite side, which i do. I trust my high beam to warn if there is any obstacle. Never ride with tinted visors at night if you are a fast rider. Plain visor is best - keep it clean. Wear anti - glare glasses if possible.
