Good to know, Atul. Actually not so good to know . Never felt pulsars handle well around the tight bends. You were extremely lucky to ride along with SKSyBiker who is very good photographer, am sure you must know by now. Will talk to you later after you complete your shuteye...

    • 24th june(or maybe 26th) 2006,the day the p220 was launched here in delhi,we had a g2g at the launch.According one tech., the engine should not be sprayed with high pressure water because that can damage the sensors.
On asking what would the SS guys do,he said that they know where the sensors are and hence will do it carefully.

      Any ideas guys?

The engine block itself is not sensitive but yes, the ETS (Engine Temperature Sensor) situated to the left of oil drain bolt is sensitive. High Pressure Water may affect the functioning of this sensor.

          yes, the bend is visible

i guess i'll have to change the wheel then
          thanks everyone for your help.

Why decide for yourself... try to get it straightened... worse case it would cost u Rs 200. A new alloy costs Rs 5K or more!

Else get a tube inside the tyre.

As Atul has mentioned 220s are not a good handling bike on the track....I crashed at C8 which is a result of skidding and I tried correcting it mid-corner which led to the crash....btw I was riding for the very first time on the track, so I can't comment much on 220s handling. On the other hand I saw Praful who was doing good laps on his 220

Result of the crash = RHS fairing bent inwards+Crash guard bent+RHS clip on handle bent+deep scratches on the silencer.

Went to PBK today to enquire about the cost of the parts to be replaced. And the guy there said fairing(RHS+LHS) and the bracket that holds the fairing costs RS 2800 in total. Is that true guys?? Coz Praful mentioned to me that the entire thing costs only 2k

What about the small dent where the crash guard was touching a part of the engine?

Yup, the fairing costs 1.8k and the sprocket costs 1k in chennai PBK... it's hard to find a proper fairing in grey market...

I was slower than my actual pase , reasons are as follows
                      1. It was my first time on track.
                      2. I was not wearing any protectors, except an helmet.
                      3. I was having my VISA interview in 3 days (CORE Reason)

Well i don't think i was too slow though, i tried and overtook some on the corners & straight lines

My max speeds at the corners were as follows

                      C1 - 110 KMPH
                      C2,C3 - 65 KMPH
                      C4 - 70 KMPH
                      C5,C6,C7 - 80 KMPH
C8 - 65 KMPH (Since Most guys Crashed here)
                      C9 - 75 KMPH
C10-C11 - 60 KMPH (Since i got outrun in my first Lap here, a Mental Block Formed in these corners)
                      C12 - 90 KMPH

I reached the max speed of 123 KMPH on straight lines... esp between C12 to C1 & C3 to c4...

Surprisingly the Main Stand did not scrap this time. while my left foot scrapped most of the times at C3..
I was running on my Stock 220.. Not even my shocks were set hard...

I don't think pulsars are too bad at the track unless you overcook them. I have seen even R15s before me crashing at the same corner (C8) where Manoj's & Eshwar's pulsars were crashing..

Moreover i felt my 220 was giving me a great handling to escape the scene, when a guy with the blue R15 crashed few feets ahead of me in C8.. I just managed to keep away from him and went into grass avoiding a fall... My heart was pounding after that escape...

Have said this before and will say this again. The 220 is meant to be on the streets and atleast 100miles away from the track.
Straights are fine, throw it into a corner and it starts its own version of a belly dance.

I wanted to see how much better is the Vyde on the track and had decided that I will never hit the track on the 220 again. But its tempting me again. Next time will try and do a something about the handling issue.

Its best that the Alloy is replaced. Any kind of bend repair involves use of force/pressure which in effect might actually damage the alloy structurally.

Been getting my bike pressure washed for long time now. No issues till date. Pressure wash is anytime better than washing with mugs of water.

Cost of the fairing could have increased! If the silencer cost can double this surely can increase a bit more. Btw, you have the option of just changing the plastics and setting the bend right on the metal frame.

Good to hear about your view on handling too!

Yes, it has been tried before. Anirudh's bike was running the super sticky Bridgestone Battlax tyres. The confidence given by those tyres was phenomenal and improve the handling of the bike considerably. But there was still a lot to be desired! When compared to the RTR even, forget the R15 for the moment!

Handling is majorly affected by the :-

                            #1 Frame
                            #2 Suspension
                            #3 Tyres

The Frame & Suspension was not built keeping the track in mind and there's not much we can do in that department. Stiffening up the rear to Max preload also is not hard enough. And the front is also to soft.

The only things in our hands is the tyres which are one of the components of handling that least affect it.

The way the 220 handles on the street is exactly the opposite of how it handles on the track. Its almost as if its scared once its on the track!

                            • ^^There was a 220 user from Chennai named Anirudh who was using Bridgestone Battlax on his 220. Praful shud know better. It did feel good but not in the league of an RTR or R15. IMHO the issue with the 220's handling is the flexing chassis and the soft suspensions(especially front) coupled with a really long wheelbase.

Yup, 220 definitely not a track bike. Point noted and confirmed. BTW, did you time yourself? Next time you hit the tracks, I am definitely in.

No wonder the bike flied when you went to the tracks with him. I saw that thread. He posted very good lap times. Battlax pair is how much? 15K? Well its the same make as SBK tyres so I guess it will definitely be better than stock .

I am sorry to hear that, Manoj. I have enquired just now about the fairing + bracket here in Khivraj. They told me it will cost 2.5K, all taxes included. Praful has hit the track before so he knew what he was getting into. Therefore, I am sure of the good speeds.

I guess it's also about the rider. You handled it better than the other 220s. Comparitively with other bikes on the track (R15, ZMA), pulsar definitely has weak handling. Good to hear you came unscathed.

+1. I think so too. The bike has a relatively high CG and very soft suspensions, makes it bouncy around the curves.
