  • hi guys.....I am also a proud new owner of pulsar220....

I recently read the article about Castrol Power 1 Racing oil n I am interested in using it in my bike......however I am little skeptical for use because in rider's manual some other specification is mentioned in comparison to the specifications given in castrol power 1 racing...

Also I read the article by MG Rider...He has said that he used the oil in his bike n he found the results to be really promising....

I am little afraid just because my bike is new and it has jus done 1000kms and I dont want to end up messing up....

So please advice guys...can I use this oil for my bike from second service onwards..!!??

    • @sai: First and foremost, congratulations for getting the P-220. Secondly, just chill. Let the machine complete it's run-in nicely and thoroughly, and also do complete your free scheduled services nicely.

Only after that decide on using another engine oil, but the Castrol Power 1 Racing is NOT meant for engines which require xW50 rated oils, so beware!

True man. Dont start experimenting right now Finish off your running-in periods & then think of shifting to any other oil. Follow the instruction religiously & I bet you will get the expirience of life time. Enjoy the 220 & tons of congrats

Ok 1000kms. Now you can take it to 70kph but dont maintain it for more than 10-15 secs. On & off accelerate de-accelerate for another 1000 kms. I did it for my 220. Didnt pushed it till i completed 2500kms.

              Note: others may differ

@Rohit: Where did you procure the grade90 oil from, here in Delhi? I am looking for the same for my machine's 'O-Ring' chain. Please help.
you can get that oil from any automotive shops anywhere in delhi. BTW yusaf sarai market has lots of shops just in front of uphaar cinema. Most of them won't understand grade 90 oil. Another name "Gear oil". Half ltr cans available for around rs.90/100
and make sure that the bottle you buy is sealed with a 3D hologram. A lot of duplication is going around

Dude just relax....no need to worry about the engine oil for this moment. Let the PBK do their job till free services.DO not be in such a hurry. Even I waited for 10000kms before switching to other engine oil.
Give your bike a chance to expand till 2500kms and for such time you have to maintain her really well. As RX said..not to keep speed at constant. Let it vary. Keep fluctuating your RPM. but try not to go ahead of 80(max) and that too with some small bursts.
and for the time being use the default oil used by PBK.

Castrol Spray Chain Lubes from Bikezone. Or you can get it from the Castrol Naraina shop. Saw a can lurking on the shelves when I got my Power1 Racing from Naraina. And yes, the Castrol shops sell cheaper than Bikezone!

Okay, thanks! But, the question is what is the grade of the Castrol Spray Chain? Is it 90 grade? Any idea?

                    @Rohit: Thanks for that reply.

Ouf! I had no idea you had grades for spray lubes for O-ring type chains! I thought you bought a can, sprayed the lube after shaking well like cold coffee and rode out! That's a technical axe you are wielding. Go ask Old Fox.

Oils come with grades. The 90 weight oil you are referring to is the one usually used in car and heavy vehicle differentials. The purpose of using this on the chain is that it lubricates and 'stays' on the chain. The higher viscosity makes it stick longer.

Chain sprays (whether molybdenum disulphide OR teflon based) have a volatile base that is mixed with the stickier and greasier elements. The volatile part not only makes spraying possible but also makes the 'greasy-sticky' part penetrate (as a thin liquid) deeper into tiny spaces. Once inside, the 'evaporatable' volatile solvent evaporates leaving the lubricant inside and around.

Sprays are a far better option than even heavy grade oils. Less messy, longer lasting and better penetration. Just pick the one Castrol sells off the shelf, shake it like cold coffee, spray it and ride away.

An afterthought: when spraying the chain, use a cardboard sheet or some such thing to shield the rear disc from the lubricant.

I think this is wht the PBK svc guys neglect and the rear dics problems start. Mine is 8k kms old and already changed the disc pads 4 times.. i really dont know how many times but i guess atleast 4 . But still thers a squeaking sound from the disc while running at lower speeds. No solution whtsoever.. damn..

And where are my manners Sorry .. Old Fox ji as alwasys you have expalined it in simple words thnks a lot for the info. Next time i will blow the pbk guy if he doesnt cover the disc.

Thanks. I had the same one in the crashed site too. Updated on this one as well, have been meaning to do it for ages... lethargy had got the better of me! Until now.

                            • Hi my names Vishy. AM posting here for the first time. I got my Pulsar 220 in December 2008 from Probiking vashi for 88,000 Rs. When i first rode it i felt awesome. The ride quality was just too good. The engine felt very smooth, gear shifting was smooth and the best part was the suspension. The first day i filled speed petrol worth 300 Rs at kperkhairne. The bike was driving too good and i just loved. I wasnt goin above 65kmph. But the second time i filled petrol i filled Unleaded from andheri east near andheri flyover opposite LP bar again for 300 Rs. Immediately i could see a drop in performance. The engine was suddenly very harsh and i could feel a drag. Just didnt knw wot was wrong and unfortunately i hadnt read Xbhp forums then. After the bike was in reserve again, i got back to speed and yes there it was the engine running smooth again and i knew for sure how adulterated petrol can wreak havoc with the engine, the worst part was the gear shifts became too hard. This time i filled at HP station on jogeswari vikhroli link road near speez. This petrol station am sure sells good petrol. I could immediately feel the engine running smooth again. I filled for 600 Rs and reset the trip to zero, by the time i went for the next fill i have done around 475 kms on the trip. At 700 kms i went to serive station PBK SK turbhe. The only complaint was the rear brakes were almost non existent, even after pressing hard the bike just would not come to a halt without the help of the front brakes and yes the hard gear shifts. And yes i forgot my helmet at PBK turbhe and to my surprise whn i went back in the evening it was there. They fixed the hard gear shifts bt the rear braking was still the same and they told me it would be fine in no time, that was at 700kms, my bikes at 1800kms now and the rear brakes are just the same, absolutely unreliable. The Pbk guy sharad told me nt to drive more than 60 kmph for 2000 kms. I said fine bt i couldnt restrain myself and was driving at 65kmph with short bursts of 70kmph till 1000kms. After 1000 kms i was driving at maximum 75 kmph with short bursts of 80kmph. I have noticed vibrations frm the front faring. The bike accelerates very fast. The handling is just superb. After 1500 kms i sped till 90kmph and also touched 60kmph in just around 4 secs. Man this bike is fast. And the bike it seems actualy encourages you to drive faster and faster. today my ODO reads 1800 kms and i touched 111 kmph at 8000 RPM. on the eastern express highway. I love my bike and am happy i took this bike. Yah abt Bajaj service, the PBK vashi guys called me 15 days after i bought the bike to ask me if i am satisfied with the bike and if there are any problems. and they again called me after 25 days to again check if am facing any problems, tahts good service i think. Am just waiting for the 2nd service whch am goona be doin at 2500kms after which i ll try the top speed of 135kmph on palm beach road. I got adrenaline rush through my body already. And yah thanks to all ya guys who posted such valuable info here and special thnx to xbhp.
