  • Apologies for not putting this in the earlier message, but what should be the idle rpm during the run-in period.

Mine is at 2 right now.

2K anytime(whether in runnin or normal period) is not required.....you can set it to 1200 - 1300 rpm..

Who set that to 2??? R u sure its in 2 ???? Isnt it getting hot very quickly???
Hope you know how to set that. Set that to 1300 when the engine is hot...ie, after a long ride......

@blade7: Have your clutch setting checked. It is quite possible that the clutch may have less/more free play or in simple words, may not be set properly. This can also lead to a hard to shift 'box.

@blade7: what steve says is correct. Note that many riders feel that the limit in runnin in is on the speed. IT is actually on the RPM in each gear. You need to ensure that the bike is not revved excessively in any gear. A proper running in may take you all the way upto 3K but with better machinin standards, 2K is max that you can take it to.
The oil Change is quite important and you can do that for maximum effect.

One question to ZiMA(Inder's word ) owners: There is an oil strainer+centrifugal filter in the 220 and I have heard that there is a filter in an R15. Does the ZiMA have any such filter?

          • Lots of help needed

To all fellows out there, i am pretty much a noob, however would like to learn from all you guys and the quickest way i could think of is ask questions and learn by trial and error...now here's the list..err before this here are the details that might come handy

            Model : Jun 2007
            Km : 16 K Approx

One of the issues is- i hear a distinct chik chik sound whenever i start my ZMA it is there only between 2k-3k RPMand goes off beyond, it was low few days back but is growing clear everyday. Do i really need to press the panic button yet? Not sure where is it coming from but is very much in sync with the engine revinn....however if i dont engage the bike in gear and open thr throttle it is not there 9 out of 10 times...can anybody help me diagnose this...I put a Motul 10w30 mineral last time and it was 0.9 litres only however i i did not drain the oil from clutch assembly, could this be because of lesser quantity of oil bike has done around 3k kms on the same oil.

I had a crash and after that the Disc pads were gone surprisingly and then got them replaced(OEM), still no less than three months the creeking sound from the disc (while rolling too) is back. what could this be?

As i have mentioned my bike has done 16K any routine changes or checkup or tweakings which you guys might recommend.

Do you recommend a wheel alignment where to get it done in mumbai and what should be the cost.

Lastly Plz Plz Plz Plz i badly need someone from mumbai to pass on the contacts of a good mechanic who can take care of my bike as i am new enough to mumbai when it comes to knowing a good bike mechanic, and of course need to desp get myself a better Lid, few good place to look out for in mumbai.

I know it might be a pain in a@@ answering a laundry list of questions, however pls pls be patient and try to resolve as many as u gentleman can.

            Thanks!!

            • Thanx guys...

Yeah i just got the clutch setting changed today, I was told that the gears would still be a wee bit hard till the next 2000 to 3000 kms.

@Niranjan, are you saying that i should upshift at 2k rpm and not 3k?

Cause i generally upshift when the bike is abt to reach 3k.

@blade7: I meant 2K kilometers and not RPM. Usually a ZiMA redlines at 8-9K RPM. Keeping running-in RPM range starting from 4K, with a raise of 500 RPM every 500 kilometers will be appropriate.
