Motul 3000 4T plus you meant ? Yes it's good ! you'll see this humble 20w40 mineral oil outperform your present 10w40 semi-synthetic in the long runOriginally posted by MAXzma View PostIf you ride only inside the city, say for a few kms a day, go for a good 10w30 oil. Haven't used any 10w30 except the HH oil so can't comment. If its for somewhat long distances and touring, 20w40 would be much better. I felt the Motul 3100 20w40 to be really good. Costed 200 bucks for the litre and it was definitely worth it!
.
What you describe sounds like an overheated engine . Like psr said .. definitely try 20w40 mineral .Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostToday morning fired the bike up as usual. And everything went fine... Did 110~115Kmph with pillion. Even the pillion said the bike's almost retained its original glory. But in the evening during the ride back, the bike felt rough, as in very rough. The bike vibe'd hard after passing the 4k mark, even the pillion felt the vibes all the way back to the saree guard.
I guess the climate temperature has some play in the above matter. BTW am currently running on 10W30 HH oil out by SVC during my last service 400kms back. So any ideas guys???
And by the time I reached back home, the bike was chil chilling real hard.
Never buy a CI bulletOriginally posted by sunny_ View PostSir, these leaking issues, wherever I read about them, get me worried.
!
In kolkata , where I also am , you'd do mucho better with 20w40 mineral oil from gulf/motul/shell . The 10w30 would give you a little better cold starts when it gets really chilly this winter (for 15 days or so) in kolkataOriginally posted by sunny_ View PostCan you sum up the best oil for me? The original HH oil last for some hundred kms (say, 500) but after then I lose the same feel
Motul 300V or Motul 3100 or Shell AX7? Or anything better?
.

Yup... So its 20w40 again.... And am getting abit tired of this cat mouse game, SVC puts in 10w30, I drain and put 20w40... and VICE VERSA....Originally posted by Pinaki View PostMotul 3000 4T plus you meant ? Why don't you ask them to skip the oil change and do it yourself laterOriginally posted by ashwinprakas View PostYup... So its 20w40 again.... And am getting a bit tired of this cat mouse game, SVC puts in 10w30, I drain and put 20w40... and VICE VERSA....
BTW Sir, can you answer my recent post regarding the oil leaks.
. No , it's not common . Motorcycles already have very small oil sumps , and it depends on this small volume of oil for many vital functions at the same time . General Lubrication , cooling-circulation , transmission-oil , wet-clutch functioning , internal bearings lubrication , piston sealing etc etc . It's not good to lose oil like that . Modern motorcycle engines have no technical excuse to leak oil in any way and I consider it a defect if it does , be it with mineral or synthetic oil . Other than the bother to remember to top-up regularly .. and the constant risk of a seized engine if you forget or unable to by the circumstancesOriginally posted by ashwinprakas View PostAre minor oil leaks common in bikes... . This risk is not theoretical , by the number seized engine from low oil at my mechanics .

They dont skip sir, they say that they'll have to keep prefect records of the bike and so they wont skip the oil change.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostWhy don't you ask them to skip the oil change and do it yourself later

I feel like loosing oil, cause once is a while I find greasy residue near the head portion of my bike. Theres not much, but enough to attract dust. And there has'nt ever been any considerable oil loss in my bike till date, cause I frequently check the dipstick and the levels always the same, even after running upto 2k kms with the same lame oil.Motorcycling Experience:

Well, if they have been so particular about keeping the perfect records , point out the dust accumulation at the head gasket and ask them to fix it under warranty, perfectlyOriginally posted by ashwinprakas View PostThey dont skip sir, they say that they'll have to keep prefect records of the bike and so they wont skip the oil change.

. Cause if there is a even a minor weakness in the head gasket .. be assured it shall become leaky in time right there .

.. the two I have used Sitala Motors (near naktala-garia) ii) amit motors (near tollygunge phari) are useless jokers . Particularly avoid Sitala , I've witnessed them ruthlessly fleece an helpless ZMR owner from outside kolkata, whose bike had broken down en-route to here .

thanks ashwin for that prompt replayOriginally posted by ashwinprakas View PostIf its white, then that means its lean. Lets wait for PSR sir's reply.
as expected, isn't it??Originally posted by psr View PostYour engine is running lean, and the ground electrode shows that the engine is running hot ....note the greyish color ...
sir, very less riding in traffic, i've covered around 480kms with this plug in which 90% of them were highway ripping, but your correct to some extend i guess because on that particular day on which i replaced the plug, i did some 10-15kms in tight traffic.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostOver-lean and hot engine , plus lots of slow-riding . well i don't think am running stoich here. first of all am with a pilot which size ~1/3 to that of a stock bike, some what similar condition with the main jet as well!Originally posted by SriramEfunds View PostTo me, it looks similar to my plug by looking at the pic. I see there is black coating on the outer ring suggests, dry and defintely not lean.

Actually, till now I've been visiting to Balaji Motors, near IIMC Joka all the way from Liluah, Howrah just for the sake of satisfaction 'cause once serviced in my locality and big disappointment
So, since then everytime I think of going to the best in Kolkata(distance doesn't matter) but finally end up going to the same Balaji Motors.

Guys, I need help.
I'm planning to do a 1600km round trip also touching Waynad this month. I'm not able to find spares easily in Chennai.
Can someone help me getting basic spares like clutch, accelerator and sprocket kit? PM me the details.Last edited by SriramEfunds; 10-04-2011, 03:05 PM.RX100 1996 | Karizma 2004 | Karizma-R 2011 | RXZ 1999 | RX 135 1998 | RX 100 1993 | CBF150 2005 - 2011
