Rite now,it's stock, doin 100 at 6k rpm.
    I want to reduce it..
    What Would you suggest.?
As it is the 5th gear is tall,so if you change the rear sprocket to 39 or 38 the top speed on 5th will become lower than stock...
Check at normal 4 k RPM shifting in 3rd and 4th and 5th gear ,and note what is the top speed you are able to achieve, and note the RPM....it will give an insight into what you can expect...if your increase one teeth in front sprocket, or drop three teeth at the rear, the difference will be 500 RPM less for same speed..ie, if you achieved 60 Kmph at 4 K RPM stock, same 60 KMPH will be achieved at 3.5 K RPM.with 14 T at front or 37 T at rear.

    • This thread has become an excellent knowledge pool in a very short period of time! A bunch of thanks to all contributors.

@psr: I have a question about issue of misfiring in my ZMA (21k kms old, 2007). This issue was non-existent before I gave it for servicing a month ago. My zma now misfires a couple of times when I start the engine using the self-start, usually in the morning when its being started for the first time during the day.

I had read a post of yours (quoted below) and seems like it might be a similar case with my zma, the water probably entered/dampened the sparkplug/seating during the service. And as you have described, the misfiring almost completely goes away after a short ride of about 5-10kms. Can you suggest a way to go about fixing it? I think I start testing with a different spark plug first, but need your opinion.

Misfiring on most modern bikes happen when the Ignition voltage becomes low or mistimed. Due to rain , water gets into all nook and corner..and also makes the Plug cap and it's seat wet..This can lead to the Ignition voltage to leak and cause misfire...after a hot run if the misfire reduces this is the reason..if misfire continues even after 20 Km ride ,then Water in petrol or wet air filter to be suspected.
Another question directed at psr-ji. I am not sure if you remember, couple of months ago, I had told you about my zma's exhaust note being a bit louder than the usual, a bit like bullet-thump. And you had suspected that extra sound might be because of a faulty catalytic converter. Do you think this should be fixed too? I like this sound a lot, and the emission test results look normal, so wondering if its necessary.

The above posts are derived from aggregation of opinions of several xBhp ZMA riders, based on personal experience/common sense. Please be advised that some things might differ from manufacturer's recommendations.

Dont know the exact make, but locally people call it as heat resistant paint and a bottle costs between 320~500Rs. Ask Aneesh for more details, he's been experimenting on all types of paints for a while.

Misfiring only when cold is a symptom associated with lean AFR setting, and cold climate...With 3.5 Turns of AFR my bike does have mild misfires and needs 2 to 3 cranking in the morning to start..mainly due to lower ambient temperature.
If the bike misfires ,and pops in exhaust when hot ,esp., when you close the throttle then you should check the " air cut valve" on the right(Kicker side ) of carburetor.

Then you can leave it as it is and not bother .

Stock paint is non heat resistant, which is why it peals off over time..
You can first clean the head with wire brush and then wash it with water. After drying ,the head can be painted with ay heat resistant paint of your choice. The paint should be capable of withstanding 200 C temperature.

First you have to locate the source of oil leak to stop it...one of the common area is the Neutral connector stub just to the left of gear shifter oil seal..It is a press fit piece which can be pulled off after disconnecting the neutral wire....Before doing it, the oil should be drained, or else the bike must be made to lean to the right /kicker side to prevent oil gushing out of the hole. The unit costs about 30/-. Part marked as 10 with 16 "O" ring is the part to change.

90rs for oil seals? Oil seal kit costs only 55rs.
