Not worth it...buy a Ninja 650 and be happy with it....and may be carry out the mods on the N650 which will be worth the effort.

Not worth changing the entire seat structure. If you are looking out for more comfort on long rides, try using a 1-inch foam on top of your stock seat, that would solve your problem. Luggage boxes, side panniers available in India are of inferior quality, Imported ones are way too expensive. Top boxes, yeah can be used, but due to low weight of ZMA, it is susceptible to cross winds on open highways. Otherwise it definitely helps carrying that extra luggage.

P.S: Personal opinion, try saddle bags and tank bags for luggage. If anything more is required, go for top box.

Thanks for the detailed posts and pictures sir! I tried shaking the connector but it did not help. And unfortunately, my electronics knowledge is limited to led's and resistors. Did not go beyond that. I have seen a couple of shops which work on speedometers here. Let me head there this weekend. Will keep you posted.

Sir, I hope this works. The problem with my fuel gauge is that even if i fill 3/4 the tank the fuel gauge doesn't go above half. Even if the bike is on center stand and at level. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the display gone kaput or the fuel sensor itself.

            • Just sometime back faced issue with bike, now that's even making me to believe about the Mayan calendar stuff! Green light, engaged the first gear, released the clutch while accelerating, Uff! engine shut, tried to revive it by pressing the start button, won't start, speedo console goes dim, trip meter resets to 0.0.

Immediately moved to the left side and tried to start, looks like some electrical issue? Ok, ZMA has an alternative - mechanical kick start. Couple of kicks and engine back to life. After reaching office, checked bike parking area. There seem to be some problem with starter motor as there is a peculiar sound. What do I do? Calmly went inside the building and reached my desk. Called the doctor.. explained. Now I've an apppointment tomorrow.

All these are happening before a road trip planned from coming saturday. Hope this should not jeopardize my plan.

Sriram: Faced and dealt with. Is the speedo stilll lit or is not functioning after you kick started the bike? Check for kaput fuses first.

If you remove the right side of the fairing, you might be able to follow a wire from below the ignition system. Follow it and when you reach the junction there either is a loose connection or a bad/broken connector. I had to fix this in the middle of no-where thankfully I had an electrician with me.

It is a standard problem with all Float and Resistance type level sensors....Like I said in my post I too had this problem before ,but got a cure after adding 1ml 2T per liter of Petrol for some time...By and Large I had now stopped looking at the Gauge as a guide for knowing the level and depend on the Petrol tap for a more accurate Feel(old school). Here is a picture of the float and the resistance mechanism...the resistor sits inside the vertical unit, and by opening it you can access it,and clean the resistance and wiper with a tooth brush...Picture indicative and not from ZMA..
You can also try a DIY, by removing the empty Petrol Tank, turning it upside down, removing the Float sender unit, and cleaning the Resistor unit attached to the float..
Remember even without Petrol the ZMA Petrol tank is heavy and need to be handled carefully.

                    • What is the purpose of handle bar end weights ? I read that its to reduce handle vibration to some extent, is it so ?

Thanks for the gyaan! Did not know the purpose of the handle bar weights till now. My bike has those plastic caps on the handle, the ones which come with the Unicorn. This weekend, sat with my friend, fitted the weight rods inside the handle bar and attached the weights of the ZMR. Vibrations on the handle bar are considerably less! The difference is very much noticeable.

This post was around six months back. Dug it out and used it this weekend.

My friend's ZMR's front mudguard was also lying idle because it had 'a scratch or two'. So he had it replaced. My front mudguard is gone! Cracks in a couple of places and all that. So got his mudguard, went to ASC and got the ZMR's clamp(ZMA mudguard clamp is different). We tried pushing it from front but it wouldn't go in. So I came to my mech, removed the front wheel and pushed it from down. It went in and sat nicely.

                          • Status report of my bike after all the engine work:

Done around 600km till now. My office is very close from home so don't get to ride much in weekdays. Did a 150km ride two weeks back. Maintained speeds around 60 and took lots of breaks. Did another 250km ride yesterday on speeds around 60 again. Went to 80-90 a couple of times and 100 once. Bike is very smooth till 60 but after that little vibrations can be felt from the engine. Think it should be fine after the run-in.

Otherwise bike is performing top-notch and very smooth!

P.S. Yesterday's ride was a sunrise ride to DD hills here. Started around 4 in the morning. I neared the place around 5:30, around 90km. Took three 5 minute breaks in between for the bike. All of a sudden, the bike was like gasping for air and it went off. It wouldn't start. 5:30 in the morning in an unknown place in the dark all alone. Sort of started freaking out! Tried with choke, without. Putting to reserve. Nothing! Let it for a few minutes and then kicked. Voila! Started! Then went ahead and then came back without any issues. What could this be? The stuck valve thingy?
