*how do u all remove the fairings??i din find the appropriate tool to open it in my tool kit..
i dont think u will find tools for that purpose in the tool kit provided..! you might need better ones..! btw...why do you wish to remove the fairing..?

*Does any 1 use the race stand??(dont know what exactly its called),how much is it?
you mean the paddockstand..i think it costs around Rs1500.

*How often do u clean your chain??and using what??
The SVC guys had suggested me to lube the chain every 500 kms or so..!
They had also told me that we could do it ourselves..by purchasing the kit..which they said costs around Rs 950

*The last time i checked my milage it was 37km/l not accurate though..is it a good milage??
Even i am getting the same milage figure..and my R15 is just 3 days old.
i guess its not that bad..the milage figures might increase after the first or second servicings..!

    • @mAYs,
      Congrats on a new bike.
      * We didn't find a 15@40 Fully Synth oil here yet. Which one have you found? Please let us know. You can happily go ahead and use that oil.
      * If not, You better look at a 10W40 Fully Synth oil for your bike. It does no harm but your engine is not yet run in well. It may be better if you switch to synth oil at second service at least - if you want performance. Else you can just live happily with the switch now.
      * There are 2 Allen Keys in the toolkit. The L shaped metal rods. The smaller one is for taking out the faiting bolts.
      * Instead of the paddock stand, get a RX100 stand along with the axle bolt. Cheap, effective, weighs less & occupies less space.
      * Clean & Lube your chain every 500 to 800 KMs. Use adhesive chain lube spray. Check your local shops which ones are available. There's one good lube manufacturer in ur city. I forgot the name but have posted in this thread the name & photos. May be an year ago.
      * During the run-in days when I didn't exceed speeds prescribed in the manual I was getting 43-44 KMPL. Later on I got strictly between 37 to 42 KMPL based on how & where I ride. Generally between 39 to 41 KMPL. See the poll above. People get really varied mileage.

        1st to 2nd: 9,700 rpm
        2nd to 3rd: 9,500 rpm
        3rd to 4th: 8,900 rpm
        4th to 5th: 8,800 rpm
        5th to 6th: 8,700 rpm

Still looking for more accurate dyno results for the bike. If someone has them, a more accurate map can be made.

What is meant by these shift points?
You mean instead of red lining change gears at these rpm?

Went to the SS at Lower Parel, Mumbai and showed the problem to personnel. They suggested two solutions. Replace the entire part(which he said will cost around 5.5k ) or use m-seal.

Friend was ready to get it replaced then n there but the personnel recommended m-seal. They have applied m-seal and the bike is left for drying for 2 hours.

What's surprising here is what caused the leak cause my friend never did any off-roading(to be hit by a stone or something), bike was idle for couple of days, he's not into stunting as well(as of sudden jerk or something). Am not a techie as such so these are just wild guesses.

Anyways, let's see how useful the m-seal turns out to be. Fingers crossed
Guess HydBiker has faced the same issue on his Kodachadri trip. He is the best person to answer this. Maybe he missed this post, so bringing it to his attention.

            • Shift Points

              @ harshit.d, Parth:

Shift Points are rpm points at which shifting allows (at least in theory) achieving of maximum acceleration. Shift points are calculated using various parameters like rpm, horsepower, torque, gearing, etc. (many big bikes have a programmable shift light that tells the rider when its time to shift)

You can tryout the shift points given in my second post. However, be very careful and do it only in a controlled environment. Safety first and always !!!

Forgot to add: Factor in the 10% of Tachometer error.

*firstly i am thinking to switch on to fully synthetic 15w40 engine oil.Does this harm the engine since it didn't run much??

1st - No it doesn't harm the engine, though running in should be done on the recommended engine oil and after that I think your good to try other options
2nd - the L- shaped tool in the Kit is the one you require to work on the fairing.
3rd - I dont use the racing stand personally, but here at a showroom in delhi its for 1500Rs. I use the RX main stand instead.
4th - I clean it once in a month or two, depending upon how much its ridden. I clean it with Kerosene and an old toothbrush. For Lubrication I use the Motul chain lube.
5th - AFIK, its a decent mileage. The most of the R15s give near 40kmpl. I get the same myself.
Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.

The R15 fared amazingly well in the Kodachadri trip. The radiator leaked during my Hampi ride. It started dripping and I did 500 KMs after I noticed it. The problem was because the horn mount on to the radiator is just a pressing and there is no welding involved. Many R15's radiators leaked for no apparant reason and all of them at the horn mount. May be due to the fact that we have to use a lot of horn in India. Yamaha replaced the leaking radiators.

That's the reason why the new bikes have the hornmounted on the chassis.

Ah, thanks for bringing it up da.

Here is some theory for you to chew upon. Do your math then.

                      I have a few questions:
                      1. I'm hearing the radiator fan turn on every other day when I ride back home from office about 45 mins.in peak traffic, most of which is crawling in 1st gear. Is this normal? The coolant level is full.
                      2. Is there any other place to check whether coolant is actually flowing or not? I remember Vibhanshu's bike showing full coolant level but overheating real bad-the diagnosis was coolant was not actually flowing. Mine is not like that, only in heavy traffic.
                      3. About the horn, is it possible for old R15 owners to get the new horn mounting onto the frame? Does this involve any welding etc.?

2009 models. Remember the Bright Red, Yellow and Stickered Black bikes? The Horn mount changed from then.

To my knowledge your fan switching on is perfectly. That is the situation when it switches on. It hardly switches on when the bike is in decent in momentum. Remember, past 3-4 weeks temperature in Hyderabad has been going up.

Abother place to check the coolant level is the radiator. You have to open up the RHS fairing, open the radiator cap and then check. Do this only when the engine is cool.

That needs a welding job to the chassis. There are a few other places you can possibly mount the horn(s). Bring it up when we meet or call me. I am feeling lazy to explain it in words

I got only 1 L shaped metal rod with which i can remove parts like muffler guard, muffler caps etc..i'll ask dealer about it..Is the rx main stand direct fit??i'll be needing it only when i wash my bike or lube it..
