Hi @RyderPavan, I asked this ques on the engine oil thread too and @muztariq who has very good info on engine oils also said 10W40 Shell AX7. but u say other grade
Sprocketing I wil do later, @HondaCBF told me to change front sprockets only to unicorn, I think T15. Have u changed ur sprockets? Does it have any effect on FE/Acceleration/vibrations?
    Whats there in a signature?

Google about 15w40.or maybe 10w40..Depends on where u ride...Its jst about viscosity and driving in cooler regions..

I have changed sprockets n have got K&N too ..N it does has positive effect on ur accleration..Vibrations start aftr 90-95..Thgh I dnt feel them now..aftr riding it since long

I am fed of poor Honda SVC guys so would service it at a good mechanic nearby. He suggested me to put 10W40 grade SS engine oil. Does it suit Stunner? what does 10 and 40 actually mean? Does it have any effect on FE? He said service intervals of 2.5k kms for mineral and 3.5k kms for SS and SS is better for engine life. Also he said FS not required for a commuter bike like Stunner. Im confused. Also am concerned whether to change front sprokets or not. Not sure how it wil effect FE, gearing.Currently Im getting 40-42kmpl in the city but drive on not so busy roads.
10w40 grade is good enough. 10w means you can start/use your bike at temperature -10'C. and 40 means you can use it (the same oil) at 42~43'C also.

similarly in 20w40, 20w means you can use it only if its 0'C not below that. and 40 denotes the same as earlier.

in 10w30 oil, which now honda (hero & tvs also) recommends, works only in the range of -10'C to 33'C only. but most parts of India (plains) temperature ranges from 10'C to 40~45'C. that's one reason 20w40 is best all year round oil.

About 10w40 oil, its SS oil and its makes a bike so so smooth. (I'm talking about shell vsx I used, now its called AX7) and lasts pretty good. theoretically, larger the range of oil (like in 10w40, higher number is 4x of lower number) doesnt last long compared to 20w40 (40 is only 2x of 20) Although, 20w40 has a range of your need, this oil becomes thick, which causes hard gear shifts, hard starts, takes long to warm up, and decrease in mileage and acceleration/power when engine is cold, compared to 10w40.

          refer the chart here>https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-x...6/DSC03129.JPG

And dont use costly FS oils if you want to save money in long run. btw, there are some 10w30 fs oils in less than 350Rs best VFM in winters I say!!

Regarding sprocketing;Change to 15T front sprocket only. It will give around 3-5kmph (true speed) increase across rev range. (alternatively, one can say revs will be lower by around 300rpm at a given speed) city mileage may not change, highway mileage will increase. acceleration will be like gladiator or well tuned passion. vibration will not go away, but it will minimize at a given speed say 60kmph. you'll notice same amount of vibes at little higher speed than now. Good luck.

boss boss boss... you got it all mixed up with the oil grades/temp stuff
10w40 means, the oil has a viscosity of 10 at 0 dec C and viscosity of 40 at 100 deg C - oil is thicker at lower temperatures and get thinner as temperature rises.

IMO, the bottom line, for most bikes under 150cc the best engine oil is either a 10w40 or a 20w40 for Indian temperature conditions.

Nah.. nothings mixed up bro.. just one clarification needed from my side.. I was talking about the Ambient Temps as per the chart given by Honda. whereas you are referring to temps which oil faces inside an engine.

                  • Hi, I am planning to put K&N filter RC1060 and Iridium spark plug for my stunner. Has anybody done rejetting for their carburetor for K&N filter? what size jets can be used for good top end performance?

                    Thanks

Rejetting wont make much of a diffrnce for 125 cc... I hve both fitted...also got jetting dne..more of acceleration..Top end remains same!!!

Thanks Pavan. Since I am not much keen about acceleration now, I have dropped the idea of Re-jetting going by your words, but I have bought a 15 tooth front sprocket today which cost me Rs.110/-, I am fitting it.

I own a STUNNER CBF 2008 model(kick/drum) that i got from my elder bro 2 yrs back. My bike is great to ride locally in
the city and she (my bike ..) gives me a good mileage of about 40-45 kmpl. The problem is that whenever i try to accelerate her beyond the speed of 40 kmph....it starts
vibrating intensely (and irritatingly)...and sounds pathetic (i almost feel like i'm riding a LUNA.......trust me..it's horrible). Also it has a serious cold start problem.....even in summers i have to kick 6-7 times to get it started and even after that..it feels like the engine is loosing power and gives missing for some time...i pull on the choke to keep it going. I took her to every good mechanic in my town that i knew but nothing happened. Help me guys...since i got this bike i've been trying in vein to solve it.....please suggest me some way to get rid if this prob!!

                          • @ speedoholic, get its carb cleaned & tuned. And most importantly, ask mechanic to tune it for max performance/pickup/power. Also, get its valve clearance adjustment done. This much should do. If you are DIY type then also you can ask for 'how tos' I'll be happy to help

                            • Has anyone explored the option of adding a kicklever to this bike? I am in the process of acquiring a used FI Stunner and was surprised that there is no kicklever. I am used to kickstarting my Unicorn in the mornings (btw, I am not selling my Unicorn). I am paranoid now about not being able to start it when/if the battery dies since it is a little over 3 years old.

                              Anyone?

Yup its possible. though I haven't tried. Talk to svc guys, they should be able to give you some lead.Btw, you can always push start it (in 2nd gear) and also batteries dont die every now and then. I mean you can rely on it.
