  • 15 tooth Sprocket for Stunner

Hi guys, I tried to put the 15 tooth sprocket (from "ROLON" which is used on Unicorn) on my Stunner but the sprocket is thicker than the stock sprocket and hence the stock chain doesn't fit on it. It needs some grinding to reduce the thickness to the stock sprocket thickness. I read somewhere in this thread that some sprocket fits directly on stunner chain. Can anybody tell what brand it is.

    • I have used uni's 15t sprocket w/o any issues. And yes it was a direct fit. Another member cmahajan did that too. But our bikes are 2010 Model..

      • My bike seems to be idling a little higher than what I like. And I don't have a tacho to measure it.

Can someone picture me the idle screw on the FI version pls?

Also, has anyone explored if the tacho from the later versions can be retro fitted into the older model? I really miss the tachometer and would love to have one.

I don't think there is an idle screw in Fi bikes, may be you felt that idling is higher due to a cold start and FI automatically increased the idle?
mee to looking for possible options to fit a Zeus Console(W/tacho) on my slingshot

Edit: check out throttle free play, if it is too less, that may be the cause of your high idle??

high idle rpm can happen when:engine is cold started or when engine is overheating or when there are some leakage in the intake hoses. Check them all. Regarding tachometer, yes you can have it. (saying because I've seen it) But sorry I don't have its how-to Edit: some Fi units have idle adjustment screw, its usually sits around throttle body but don't fiddle with it.

Why not? With Stunners short gearing, just add a pair of on/off road tires and you're good to go.

There was a guy who did Leh on a 4k old Chetak IIRC.

along with good tyres one would also need to tune/re-jet the carb. These are the basic things to be done. Btw, there were 2 guys who have done the heavenly trip on TVS XL!!

What benefits do I get with short gearing, specially in context to Leh trip. Kindly elaborate the better details of off-road tyres over on-road. Please specify a product name if possible.

I own a carb based Stunner. I think tuning of carb will be needed as density of air reduces at altitudes. Can you please spell out the adjustment that I will need ? Can I make them by myself ?

By the way leaning about TVS Victor XL and (more surprisingly) Chetak, I now feel that it is a myth that only RE can take you to Leh-Laddakh on two wheels

off road tyres are mainly those tyres which comes with bigger & wider thread blocks & groves. These bigger blocks & groves dig into sand, mud etc and provides grip for pulling you out. Have You seen rear tyres of any tractor.. Those are an example of off road tyre. I also feel, that the tyre on ceat ad, is a on/off road tyre. For better suggestions regarding tyres, I'm leaving it to others as I have no good knowledge of it.. . Regarding, carb tuning you need to change its main jet to lower size. Stunner comes with 108 size main jet, so you can try for sizes around 98 (10 size lower) I don't know it will work or not, its just a guestimate. Another cheaper solution is to place a thin wire into main jet, making its size smaller. Further you might also need to tune the carb via AFR screw. For getting an idea of carb components you can refer to http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/do-yours...-cleaning.html .Yes you can do all these its fairly easy. But if its your first time then you should get it done from some qualified mechanic. But do get a know how of these things. It will surely help. And remove all the carburetor mods when you come back to normal kind of altitude, else severe damage can happen because of over heating. Edit: gearing works like a torque converter shorter gears means more torque transfer to wheel (means better acceleration and pulling) [and that's the reason why stunner feels so stressed on highways even at 70ks..] longer gears means more speed. So, with short gears you can easily climb all those mountain roads.

Wow, that was really really impressive detailing work, and thanks a ton to you. With all these info available I am now left to work out a few more minor details, namely:
                        1. To find out the on/off road tyres product details and cost.
                        2. Since the suggested tuning of carb has to be done at altitudes, so it means when I begin from Delhi I will have to run on a standard tuned carb, but when I am about to reach hilly regions I will need to amend the tuning and employ thin jet. (yeah, I’ve never tuned a carb before, so I will need a mechanic)
                        3. Is it possible to alter the gearing on a stunner to avail some improved top speed ? (asking it just to know if I can do so before a regular tour on a highway)
                        4. Can you drop me the names of a few shops (online or in Delhi) from where I can buy some "economic" riding gears (Jacket, guards etc), I am not looking to dig a hole in my pocket. I have a ECE Certified helmet from Vega and Pro Biker Riding Gloves (which I think are not that "Pro" ). Do these rider jackets cause lack of comfort during sunny weather ??

                        Warm Regards,

                        • If you want taller gears with a slight drop in pick-up, then put in the Unicorn front sprocket of 15 teeth. That should improve top speeds without too much drop in power.

yes, this will be the best option. get the carb setting done at Manali or after that. And mechanics do know what they need to do with the bikes to get bikers Leh'ed. Btw, there were bikers who perform these changes when they start feeling lower performance from their bikes.

Mr. Prajwal has already stated the option. 15T front sprocket makes stunner a perfectly geared bike. not too tall, not too short. But if you only need to cruise on long plain highways, then one can also use 16T front sprocket, but this will make it too tall for city riding.

http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/general-...r-need.htmlthe above thread will help for online purchases. Regarding local Delhi stores, I have no idea. Delhi xbhpian will help with this. And in Delhi summer, leather jacket will cook you from inside. for summers its best to stick with mess or textile jackets (of course with protectors) but there's a catch, leather offers better protection than any other thing available on market.

I have been searching for a 16T front sprocket for sometime now. Hard to get. Also not sure if it will fit into the area since its much larger in size.

                              • Yamaha RX series except RX100 uses 16T front sprocket. Try asking like you intend to use it in RX. Regarding fitting, I placed it without the metal bracket (which protects engine case in an event of chain breakage) And it went in well. Btw, cbf exported to UK uses 16T front. And some of the UK rider have even used 17T!!
