  • @ plasmabhai, speedfreak24 :: Thanks guys. I've asked him not to change this time. He REALLY insisted to change it asap for a safe ride. Planning to change it in next service. Will keep posted.

I was really pissed off . I did not know if these guys are well-informed that grease should not be applied to an o-ring chain. Had no other option told him not to do lubrication.

Is it worth changing the chain sprockets at 17.5k kms? I am confused. I was thinking at least they would run close to some 30k kms.
As long as the chain adjustment can be done, no need to change the chain-sprocket kit. Dazzler's chain being O-ring chain, its closed and you can't remove a link to make it tight. Once the chain becomes loose till all the adjustment is finished, there is no other option than replacing it. For me, the stock chain-sprocket kit worked till 25k kms. My suspicion about chain becoming loose early is over tightening of the chain than required. If you tighten the chain than required, it puts lot of pressure on the links making them stretch. As per non-maintenance of chain, I don't think it would put lot of pressure on the chain and sprockets as the links contain o-rings which provide sealed lubrication. Of course, proper chain lubing is required and lubing every 500 kms is not an issue at all. Just buy 90 grade oil and pour it when ever chain appears dry.

As for greasing the o-ring chain, I haven't read anywhere that grease would destroy the o-rings. Its safe to use grease on o-rings.

You got it right, I believe. He did say that the chain is tightened to the fullest and it's unsafe to go beyond this. Moreover, I think your 90 grade oil idea is a very simple DIY.

I've read this long back here at xbhp during my searches for purchasing a bike. Here's the link. http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/do-yours...brication.html - Check the 'Important tips' section.

Also, last time when I took it to Kun service (being paid service, I've been searching for a good service center here in Chennai. So opted different service stations at various service intervals), the SC guy asked -
"Where was the previous service done? I am sure it was not done here"
I replied: "Yes, it was not here. But, how are you so sure?"
SC guy: I can see that your chain is greased. For O-ring chains grease should not be applied. There is a special spray for it.
After a friendly inquiry, he said "Grease will absorb more dust and penetrate the O-ring which will make the chain's default lube inefficient."

It just flashed my mind what I read here. Do you think it's okay to grease considering the fact that the chain is half-covered and we ride in city where the chain is exposed to dust all the time? Next time, I can be in an informed decision when greasing is done!

          Thanx.
Repaired?? Haha, the block was fried..!! What had happened was that due to extreme heat, part of the piston and cylinder walls had melted. this was towards the intake side. That side of piston was totally black-brown, there was probably some pitting on the piston side walls as well, not sure what it really is exactly though. Cylinder walls were scratched and black from top to bottom in that region. Rings had probably cracked as well, not sure. I have the pics even however they are low resolution cell phone pics.

Anyway, Joel looked at the whole thing. he told me possible reasons why it happened. And of-course he agreed to replace the complete kit free of cost. I did not even have to ask him, he directly offered this after seeing the condition of bore and piston.

The new bore is 170cc and is running perfectly fine. Absolutely ZERO trouble on the new bore, have finished 3200 kms on it, all commuting in the low rpms and no touring at high rpms though as yet :|

          • Got my bike back from SC. Indicators were not flashing and they had to change the relay. Overall a neat job. Did some waxing as well to get back the old shine Never waxed since I bought it in 2011 June.

Now the next shock! The SC guy says the battery is weak. Battery needs to be changed asap. So far, I haven't had any troubles with the battery. I told this to him. But he said, "the days of trouble are not far too away if you continue running with this battery" and all of a sudden he said it would cost Rs. 1500 for a 7AH battery - I was like WHAT? I was thinking it was a 4AH. Din't say anything though :P Not even 2 years, and here, the battery is dying. I do not know if it's normal! Anyways in next service, Chain-Sprockets, Battery + consumables... Need to rip some good Vitamin M.

Are you planning to retain the chain? IMO, one should change the whole set. Else, it leads to faster wear and tear.

I had bought the chain separately one day before this, he did not have the sprockets in stock that day, hence the heads-up...

Engine knocking due to lean mix, extreme heat due to lean mix. Don't want to upload pics, will do those if and when I write a full blown review.

                    • Are the sprockets and chain a set or they can be bought separately??
If they can be bought separately cant we check the condition of the sprockets and change them??
My bike is due servicing & i need to change the chain & disc pads, also need to check up the mono shock because even after replacement it feels squishy especially at speeds above 70.

They come as both a set as well as separately. Separately it will cost slightly extra. Check my posts above, i bought all of them separately simply because they were not available as a set.

Everyone I talked to and everywhere I checked and all sources i read repeatedly say that it is not advisable to change one component at a time, all must be changed together at the same time.

If you want to just change the front sprocket then I would say it is still ok since it costs only Rs150/- but if you are going to change the rear sprocket (Rs600) or the chain (Rs1155) without changing other components then you would simply be throwing away your money since the new components will wear out very quickly and also not perform properly.

From my experience i will say try and extend the life as much as possible of the original chain sprocket set by lubing like crazy and run as much as you can, when you are sure that no more life can be extracted, change the COMPLETE set in a single go.

Having already bought the complete chain-sprocket set, this is what I am doing currently :P

                          • Hi Guys.. Do you know what would be the best tire size for our front wheel? 100/80?

                            Comment

                            • Hi phat, I think the best size is stock only, 80/100. I think a 100/80 section front tyre will make handling much more sluggish due to added bulk and width.
