Thanks neil, first for your suggestion, and second, for reading that really long post
I will change the relay this weekend and see if it works. And I think I quoted the cost of starter switch assembly above, not the relay. My bad.
My bike has only been touched by the 'expert' hands of Sai Point Honda, Thane till now.

I own a red Dazzler, bought in Jan 2012 as a birthday gift to myself . Done 21k kms till date.
Oil used: Honda 10W30 Mineral till 20k kms. Currently using Shell Advance 10W40 SS.
Bike is super!! Perfect for me as my daily office commute is almost 52 kms. Very smooth till 4k rpm and goes wild after that. Getting the best of both worlds

Everything was fine till I had an engine overhaul done in June 2013. Apparently some water entered the engine oil compartment, turning the oil into lassi. Did an engine overhaul as suggested by Honda ASC.
From that day onwards, I am having trouble in starting the bike. The bike only starts when I give some accelerator and press the starter button. Choke is useless, the bike starts for a couple of secs and dies again. Even if it starts, I have to continuously accelerate else it dies. This happens even when the bike is kept idle for 3-4 hrs. However once the engine becomes warm, it starts in one click of starter.
I complained it to the ASC, but they just increase the idle RPM when the bike is cold and once the engine becomes warm the idle RPM shoots to 3k. These guys are practically hopeless and I just don't trust them.

So the first thing I had in mind was that the battery was at fault, as it was stock and had done around 1.5 yrs. So I changed my battery in July 2013 to Amco 5A MF. Still the same problem persists. In fact, last Sunday the bike was parked for whole day and when I started it on Monday morning, the display just went off for a sec or so and came back . A few cranks later, it finally started(with some accelerator of course). I went to the battery dealer and checked the battery voltage, it was 12.xV and upon accelerating it was 14.xV. So everything was normal here I guess, though I haven't checked the voltage when the engine is cold.

It looks to me now that either there is some problem in relay or I am running lean. Very lean. I had already changed my relay twice(a few months back) costing me around 375 Rs. each time(ASC says electrical parts are not covered under warranty, hence I had to pay). Was thinking of checking the spark plug for any signs of lean mixture, but I am not much of a DIY person and had just changed the spark plug last week itself. So I think spark plug would not show much.

Now before I show my bike to some local mechanic, what do you guys think? Is there some problem in relay or carburetor tuning or even battery? Any help from you guys will be greatly appreciated.

P.S: I tried searching for the same problem in this thread, but I just had to share this.
Usually, relay resolves the cold start issues. You have changed the RR twice and still the issue persists, ok. Did you get the carb cleaned, and check the filter?
21k kms, when was the last time you changed the air filter?
As you mentioned, the engine does start but eventually dies, i dont think battery is an issue at all as if it would have been the case, bike wouldnt even crank up. Relay changed twice, i dont think that can be the culprit now. Spark plug changed too, the only remaining things which can cause this are carb and/or air filter (fuel rushing in but no/less air for combustion, but if thats the case, you would surely feel a little drop in the pickup as well)

PS: display gone blank for a sec, dont go too harsh on self start, keep a gap of 3-4 secs between 2 sessions of start button, and make sure you have spare fuse in your bike.

Thanks viks. Last air filter change was done at 12k kms. Current one looks good for 1-2k kms more, though it won't hurt if I change now.
Relay was changed before I started facing this problem(atleast 7 months back), I am thinking of changing it as well just to be on the safe side.
You are bang on target! Pickup has reduced as well, I forgot to mention it in my original post. I told this to the ASC and a local mechanic, but they couldn't notice any difference. I guess nobody knows about a bike more than its owner, its as if we get sooo attached to her that we can easily sense when something is amiss.

Anyways, two things to be done now. Change air filter and relay from ASC. And get carb cleaned/tuned from a good local mechanic. Hope it solves the problem.
Thanks for your help. Cheers!

I almost forgot, wishing all you guys a very Happy Diwali and a prosperous New Year!!

Hey fellow riders posting after a long time but have been a regular reader, time has come for the first paid service i just want to ask a few questions here:
1.which engine oil i should use now? i have seen that engine sound remains good for only about 300kms from oil change and latter it increases a bit.
2.which grade oil 10w40 or 20w40?(currently its honda 10w30)
3.i wanted to change the headlight as i feel it a bit downside in dark but dont want battery to go down, so which should i go for?(i know there is a post in xbhp on it or in this thread but coudnt track it now)
4.Should i go for AMC worth rs 900?

Regarding engine oil and headlight.
1,2. You cn go for Shell Advance AX7 semi synth oil. Lasts 2.5-3k based upon riding style.
3. plasmabhai is happy with Osram Silverstar 35w H4 on his Dazzler.

1&2 You can go for either Motul 5100 or Shell AX7. I am currently running on AX7 and from personal experience I would say that Motul 5100 is definitely better than Shell AX7. But Motul 5100 costs about Rs520 and the prices might even have increased more, so it is a bit out of my budget. AX7 at ~Rs370 is value for money. You can try 10w40 grade oil in winters. For summers I will 100% recommend 20w40. 10w30 Honda oils is quite literally shit.

3 - As Divya Sharan says I am indeed quite happy with the Osram Silverstar 35/35w HS1 bulb. It is a stock replacement for our headlight bulb so does not affect battery and other electrical in anyway. The bulb promises 20m extra throw in high beam (true claim) and a 50% brightness in light than stock (I would say its more like 25%, but it is brighter than stock no doubt). At Rs125/- that is totally worth the money.

You can also ask Adarsh_Bk whether he is happy with his Osram bulb, I forget the name but it is costlier, about Rs500/-, has a white tinge to the light, is 90% brighter and 50m longer beam or so. This is also a stock replacement bulb, 35/35w H4 and will not affect peripheral electricals.

4 - Regarding AMC it depends, because AMC by every dealer is different. My dealer gave me a Rs1100/- AMC which had 5 services with zero labour cost, 10% spare part discount, no time limit, 10000 kms distance limit and one free wash. Despite the AMC I always used to pay from Rs250/- to Rs400/- on every service. Considering that I pay about Rs500 every service now (whenever I go to ASC i.e.) I think it was mostly a waste of money. But since every dealer gives different package, YMMV.

Cool! Which one is it (company name, so we can judge if its available in india)? Unconventional bulb design! By all weather do you mean that it has a white high beam but a yellow low beam?

Hello everyone
I was hearing clicking and hissing sort of noise(pulsating) from the engine as suggested by @sibun I got the tappet adjusted and now the engine sounds like when I got the bike
I was watching the mechanic doing the adjustment I noticed he blocked the encircled portion with a cloth for a second or two..and the engine sounded very silent I dont know the purpose of the encircled portion(see picture)

Changes observed after the tappet adjustment bike feels smooth and better acceleration @sibun can you tell me what that encircled portion
others too please answer and let me learn more
