What is the price of Mobil1? On ebay, it sells for 2730 for 1 quart. If it is US quart, then it is less than a litre.

When should one change to full synthetic oil?

Congos on the magic figure. After so many miles and years it still does 120, that's awesomeness.

I haven't changed the stator coil to that of the Avenger 180. I also removed the air filter top inlet and drove a distance. The sound from the muffler got dampened, the strokes got silenced. Overall biking became smooth, but since I didn't adjust the air fuel ratio screw, reverted back to stock. Also read about front sprocket change, stock is 15 teeth, I got 14 teeth from the 220 but the spares fellow refused to give loose front sprocket. What can be done to procure only the front sprocket?

If I am not wrong, the chain sprocket set comes as a single piece, that includes the sprockets and chain as well. Even I tried to talk to the SVC folks about altering my sprocket set to the P220s but they said there will be groove mismatch, the sprockets won't fit in properly since P220s produce more power and torque, their respective components are made bigger and heavier and thicker. That was the full stop on my mod decision. Do let us know if the sprocket alteration works.

I have seen for the first time there are fellow Pulsar owners who like Castrol. From top to bottom, I have always heard negative against Castrol. One even knows them as CRAPstrol. HP Racer 4 doesn't come in Xw50 grade as far as my knowledge goes. Bajaj DTSi oil was good if the bike recommendation was Xw40 but with the Xw50, they are as good as for 1500 to maximum 2000 kms. I stopped using it some 10000 Kms ago when my bike was still in warranty.
Used Yamalube 15W50 and it doesn't survive for more than 2200 kms in our Pulsars.
Tried BP MAK 4T NXT and its a really good oil. Its multigrade and even I had my doubts, but it is a smooth oil and does survive for the better part of 2500 kms or more.
Currently I am using Petronas Sprinta 15w50 and it is a good oil too. Never tried Motul as I couldn't justify the price and my riding style/distance covering measures.
Shell, Motul, ELF, Petronas, BP MAK 4T NXT (it comes in 900ml pack), Valvoline are the brands I would close my eyes and get them.

I have believed in a simple rule of changing Mineral at 2000-2500 kms, Semi Synthetic at 4000-4500 kms and Synthetic at 6500-7000 kms, unless the oil gives up sooner or the gearshifts and ride becoems harsh. I have not tried Full Synthetic oil since I don't really rev hard and don't spend time at that high speeds. So Semi Syn works fantastic for me.

Its INR450-INR590.... I checked it yesterday for you bro......its in 5w50 and 0w40
And about the change, modern engines are built with good knowledge and high-end machines,so you can change to synths anytime.

                      • P150 45k KM Help/Advice

Firstly, i'd like to thanks everyone in this forum. I'm a new member here and have been attacking every threads like the Engine Oil, Tyre, Let there be light threads etc.
You guys here have been really kind to me and i'm glad that i found this forum. Cheers ~

                        Anyway, so uh..

I recently bought a 2005 Pulsar 150 Dtsi. The day i got the bike ( 3 months ago) i directly went to Bajaj Showroom and got it serviced. The mechanic advised me to also go for a chain cleaning (which would cost me Rs.100 extra). I was so happy with the bike and i want to be the bike at its best condition so i agreed. I changed the engine oil as well.
But, i did not feel the bike was serviced nicely. I was kind of dissapointed but i let it go.
So what do you guys suggest? Service Center or Local Mechanic ? At least the local mechanic will do it in front of you.

What my problem is, when i'm on low RMP on high gear and try to accelerate the sound coming from the engine is really dangerous. I feel that something might just break down. I'm not sure if this is common.

Second problem is about the gear shifts, whenever i start my bike and go on the 1st gear, its not that smooth. 2nd gear sometimes shud be pressed hard, from 3rd it is still smooth. Also while downgrading the gears from 3rd to 2nd to 1st and to Neutral its a pain. I have to hold the clutch and accelerate a little for smooth gear shifts.
If i'm at a signal on the 1st gear and need to put it on the neutral gear, I have to either push my bike a little ahead or just hold the clutch and accelerate a little for smooth shift to neutral. I feel if my bike is above 4.5k RMP the shifts are pretty smooth. But if it is at low RPM it is not.
What is causing this problem ? & How can i resolve it ?
Also i ride the bike mostly during the night on the highway and also plan for a 1200km ride so what do you guys advice me to get the bike back to its best condition ?
I also wanted to know about the brake, clutch, gear oil.

                        Many Thanks & Much Appreciated,

PS : I am sorry for such a long post, I just want to be clear in what i write.

                        • Pulsar 150 General Driving/Maintenance Help

                          Hi,
                          Starting with details of mine:
                          I own Bajaj Pulsar 150 UG3 Edition.
I have a daily run of about 40 KM out of which 30 is on Highway.
Bike is well maintained in terms of regular service and genuine parts.

                          My query:
Since the bike is about 6 years old, but I have recently got the Piston-cylinder kit replaced, new silencer and clutch plates.

                          1. But the Mileage is coming about 30-35, which was about 40+ KMPL till last year.
can any one help me in this regard as petrol is very costly now.
What should be the Mileage according to this?
My usual driving speed it 70-72 KMPH with 6000 RPM.

                          2. Is this 72 KMPH is fine at 6000 RPM or it should be higher?

                          3. The chain set of my bike is just 1 year old, but it require to be changed?
what can be the possible reason for this frequent change?
as the chain set is original bajaj kit.
                          any other recommendation on this.

                          4. I want to change my chain cover, its the old full cover type, can I replace it with the new open type?

Any kind of help on the above questions is very much needed!!!!

for mileage, you need to set the AFR screw of carb correctly. ask the service center to do it., may be they have set it a bit rich since you have changed the block piston, ride it for atleast 1000 kms, then ask the service center to change carb setting.yes 72 kmph is exactly ok at 6000 kms.may be your chain is not maintained well, not lubricated regularly or may be some alignment issues with sprockets. difficult to say without physically checking it. removing chain cover will shorten the life of your chain. as chain cover protects the chain from dust, dirt and water etc...

If you have a trusted local mechanic then you can very well go there else try to find out which SVC in your place has got a good reputation. Both the options work well. In my area the local mechanic is a pain in the bums so I always go to my trusted SVC and they do allow me to see the bike getting serviced.

What my problem is, when i'm on low RMP on high gear and try to accelerate the sound coming from the engine is really dangerous. I feel that something might just break down. I'm not sure if this is common.

This sound might be because of knocking. Too low RPM and a higher gear is not advised. Yes, the bike might pull through but not good for engine and the associated parts. Try to shift up at least post the 3K mark for each gear and you will find a difference. To be in correct gear at correct RPM is the key to acceleration/speed

Second problem is about the gear shifts, whenever i start my bike and go on the 1st gear, its not that smooth. 2nd gear sometimes shud be pressed hard, from 3rd it is still smooth. Well, Pulsar's gearbox isn't as refined as the Yamahas but they aren't such a pain actually. You might not be pulling the clutch completely and that might be causing the gearshift problems. Also try to warm up your bike in the morning or if the bike has been standing for more than 8-10 hour break. This significantly reduces gearshift problems, personal experience. A bike too hot also results in hard gearshifts, again personal experience.
If the above works then you should be smiling, else don't worry, take your bike to SVC/mechanic and ask them to adjust the clutch. That should resolve the gearshift issue.

Also i ride the bike mostly during the night on the highway and also plan for a 1200km ride so what do you guys advice me to get the bike back to its best condition ?
I also wanted to know about the brake, clutch, gear oil.
Upgrade to a better bulb for better illumination, check the tyre wear, medical kit, chain sprocket health, electrical, and if the oil is too old then change it.
Check the brakes too, get the rear drums cleaned and the front brake pads too. Check if the wheels are rotating freely. For the front brake, its ok if you hear a feeble sound. The pads do rub against the disc at the front and that's normal.
I believe you have a UG2/3 version and that should be 20W40 oil recommended by the manufacturer. You can try Motul/Valvoline/Shell of the same grade. Also, you can very well use 0W40,5W40,10W40,15W40 and/or 20W40 grade oil. Please cross check your bike's manual before you take a jump for the oil.

                                Many Thanks & Much Appreciated,
