This is the periodic maintenance and lubrication chart. I don't have the manual, you can search in internet . Usually I change gears as:
    2nd-10-15kmph
    3rd- 15-20kmph
    4th- 20-30kmph
    5th- 30kmph-40kmph

Well it depends on rider and varies form individual to individual. I downshift if the engine knocks or feel the need of speed up fast. I don't think there is any problem but as per my riding style I can suggest you to downshift to second gear if you are at 10-12kmph.

    problems recently with my bike

Model -Pulsar 150 DTSi ES 2004.

    odo- 40000kms

    Problem- Electric stater

After purchasing the bike in 2004 this is the first battery that i hav purchased. The previous one did close to 25000 kms .Very recently I got my bike an Exide9MX battery from an authorised dealer.
After 7 days the battery goes low and the self was of no use. Took it back to the dealer and he charged up the battery at no cost. Again , all worked well. But ,again the bike refuses to start when its a bit close.
When I ride harder and for more hrs then only the self start works. I never use self at early morning ,for that reasoon I hav kick start. But I think the problem is not with the battery there is something else. Though the battery is under warranty, so no worries abt that but I dont knw if the stater is ok or not. The horn is better as new which says that the battery is giving juices to the horn. Bike needs to be heated to use the self. So, what may be the problem?
Is the stater gone kaput? or its jst normal with this model?

Average depends on riding style and it varies from user to user. Normally you should get something between 45 to 50. I usually drive at 50 to 60kmph in top gear. My driving is within. city only. It also depends on how the bike is maintained mechanically. Keep servicing at regular interval also drain engine oil at regular interval and use good oil. That's what I can suggest.

Fill up your tank upto brim note the kilometer. Note the kilometer when your bike goes on reserve. Your reserve is 2ltr so you can easily measure your mileage.

Which engine oil should I use ??
my mileage is somewhere around 40 or less than that, I guess so...
What should I do to increase mileage, I got my bike serviced last week, before service I think the average was high, but after service my mileage has dropped, what may be the reasons, is it Cold outside or anything else ??
I fill petrol from same petrol pump everytime which is most reliable in our area...........

Anything specific which helps you understand that the mileage has dropped after service?

For a fair mileage you may follow some basic things:

                1. Check the tyre pressure. Ideally it is 28psi front 32psi rear.
                2. Check the carburetor settings , that is if its tuned properly. For that go to a good local mech if known to you or better visit Bajaj ASC. Also ensure your carburetor is cleaned in your last service.
                3. For engine oil I will recommend Motul5100 15W50. It is the same oil I use and I am pretty satisfied with it.

Usually I get more than 44 if ridden sanely. I have got worst as 33 (ripping madly).

                  1. You can use Motul 5100, 15W50. This is the best, though I am yet to use it. Currently I am usign Petronas 15W50 semi-synthetic.
                  2. I don't want to discourage you but I am getting 55 KMPL+ since I bought the bike. The best I got was 63 KMPL before first servicing when the bike was brand new.
                  3. Check your carb and get it tuned by a trusted mechanic. Get it cleaned and properly put up. It must be running too rich - to check this, see if there are any black carbon like deposits on the spark plugs. I do gearshfits in the range of 3.5-5K RPM and won't rev the heart out of it. Go for a full tank to full tank or reserve to reserve method. Also, try to drain/use all of the petrol in the tank and fill fresh.
                  4. Check the chain for proper tension and lubrication.
                  5. Check air pressure in the tyres.
                  6. Idling should hover somewhere near 1K. (I don't know how but in 12 Degree C, my bike still idles at 900-950 RPM without any issues)
                  7. Check if the brakes are not rubbing against the disc or the rear circumference of the alloy.

Fuel Efficiency is all how you maintain the speeds and the bike. Its very very simple once you get hold of it. After 2.5 years of ownign the beautiful P150, I am getting to know the throttle and brakes better.

"Put a little engine oil in the silensor ..for smoother sound ..not daily ..just 3to 5 drops in a week..""

Does it really work or does it harm the bike in any way ???

                          Thanxx a lot maddy bro.
I don't wanna play with it as I am a newbie, just wanted to know where is it located and what it does..
I read a few articles and understood what it does and how to tune it but still I am afraid to do it, went to ASC they told it is normal in pulsar, they tighten the Chain a bit and lubricated it....

Just wanted to ask you that when I went to them they set the Idle RPM of my bike to 1000 RPM yesterday evening when my Bike's engine was hot, before going to ASC, I had ridden the bike for about 20 KM's

                          Now the problem
Today morning when I started the Bike using Kick and didn't touch the Throttle, Bike got started in first Kick, RPM needle went to around 900RPM and then it came down to Zero 0 RPM within 5-6 seconds, after 2-3 more seconds engine went off and the needle was at 0 RPM at that time, I started again using Kick same thing happened again, Third time I started bike and as soon as I touched the Throttle, engine went off, I tried to tune the Idle RPM on carb myself and turned the needle clockwise a bit, it solved the problem and bike was not going off itself............
I rode the bike but when the engine was hot, my idle rpm was around 1.5k
so is it a problem and how to solve this, I think it effects the mileage of my bike if the idle rpm is so high

Plzz help me if it is really a problem and if it is then help me to solve this..............

                          Thanxxx

Bro normally rpm ideals somewhat between 1100 to 1400 rpm. For proper tuning you need to understand the ideal point of engine. At 900rpm of you don't maintain the throttle its normal that engine shuts down. Every morning when you start put the choke on and kick start the engine.
Keep the choke on for 30sec and give another 30 sec to the bike for idealing and warm up properly. Set the rpm to 1200 move the screw clock lise listen to the engine if it runs high turn the screw anti clock wise and fix it when the engine ideals. 900 is not the ideal point for pulsar 150 asc people keeps it on 1400 I keep it 1200.

Experts please correct me if I am wrong
