I have ordered for Motul 5100 engine oil and Iridium Spark Plugs from Laxmi Automobile, Pune. They are quoting 550 per spark plug for which I am comfortable unless it is really helpful for the bike. Also I want to know if wires needs to be replaced with spark plugs. Is the engine oil good for the bike? I was using Bajaj Synthetic oil till now.

Stock spark plugs are good enough. Ours is not a high performance bike and having two spark plugs definitely has the benefit of longer life of the plugs. I have heard that Motul 5100 is the best for Pulsars, you can stick with it. Bajaj synthetic oil is crap. It looses out too soon and makes everything noisy and rough. I used this oil only for run-in and then never used a drop of it for the past 2 years now.

Yours is UG3, so check if the engine oil grade in the manual is 20W50 or 20W40. If it is 20W40 then you can go for Shell engine oil too.
Semi-Synthetics work really nice with our bikes. I am currently using Petronas 15W50 which is Semi-Synthetic. Its ok but not amazing. Will try Motul next time since I am having real hard time in getting Shell in the required grade.

You can get a wiring overhaul too if you think there are many cuts and openings in the wiring. Plus, it should be good if done. You don't know what the condition of the wires might be whihc are not visible from outside. If re-wiring, get it done by trusted mech or authorized service center.

Perfect! yes bro Motul oil is good. But last time I was using 15W50 5100 SS oil. My engine was seized after using the oil for 1900km and oil drained was approximately 400ml. So what I came to the conclusion is its better not to change the grade of the oil, like mine is suggested to be 20W50.

Friends,

I own a Pulsar 150 UG4.5 and i've done 10.4K Kms till now.

1.) I did my oil change on 7200KM ODO with Motul 7100FS and till then i am facing overheating of engine which is quite evident even on very short trips .

2.) Earlier i couldn't see any smoke( it was like transparent air blowing out of exhaust) from exhaust and it wasn't smeely too but now the smoke that comes from exhaust is slightly blue which is easily visible and kinda smelly to as if engine oil is burning too.

3.) On one fine day i reved up my bike and ride it at around 100-110Kmph for around just 2-3Kms and the engine was smelling like rotten egg and fumes was also coming from engine when i stopped.

and engine looses up power after some 50Kms of continuous riding and the then acceleration becomes as if i am riding a bajaj platina.

Kindly Suggest what's wrong and the causes of these problems and which oil i should i switch to Motul 5100 or Castrol power 1 or Valvoline 4t premium

bro immediately check the engine oil level. As learned from my mistake FS is not meant fro our Pulsars. So I suggest you to go for mineral oil 20w50 from Motul. That's the best for our Pulsars. Smoke is coming out means oil is getting burned up. You can check the followiing 1;

What is grade of recommended oil for this............??

Is it 20w40 or 20w50 ???
Or will it make any harm to my bike's engine if I use 20w50 grade semi-synthetic oil ??

I am willing to use Valvoline 4T Premium 20w50 Engine Oil, I have heard it is best suitable for the pulsar breed and it suits my budget also...........
Can't afford to pay more than 400 for the engine oil as I ride the Bike sensibly and don't Rip it, mostly I ride it between 40-60 with smooth accelerations..........

I cancelled the spark plugs. I purchased Motul 300V for 980 but this one is 10W40. I don't mind using this, my previous bajaj synthetic oil was a crap, it made my bike 100 years back in time.

This Motul oil, I think is good. There was change if character right from the first kick, bike revs little higher now and throttle response is very good; also gear changes have become very smooth but that is expected from any new oil. Real test comes in after 5000 km.

I just game my bike for servicing at planet bajaj. They said wiring is OK for now. They won't do decompression check or engine bore check (stupid fellas). They did routine check and that's it !!! Not expected from flagship store. Anyways, since I didn't wanted to take back bike without servicing, I gave them. Let's see how good they are.

Bro I think it's better is you use 20w50 grade. I was using 15w50 from Motul, but I ended with my engine seize. You can check few threads back here. i have posted some pics.

I have used Castrol, Shell and Motul. Out of this 3 I am more satisfied with Motul 3000 20W50 (costs some thing around 350). That is a mineral oil. I tried to switch from that to Motul SS 15W50 and you can see what happened to my engine. use 20W50 grade only and also check the oil level every 500km.

Since bike is already running with 10W40, when should I look for a change before engine is busted. I can replace engine oil immediately after service if they make such lasting effect on engine. I think I am panicking here

Thanks maadyy, for reply but its been 3400Kms on this oil and the oil level is perfectly OK (between those two mark) but engine is overeating that's for sure and nowadays stating the bike in morning has became a pain for me, it takes 8-10 kicks or self to start in morning with choke on

You can very well play with the cold rating of the oil, that is the value before 'W'. It can be either 0/5/10/15or 20. It depends on how cold your area is. Someone living in hills where temperatures drop to near 0, should use lower rating (0/5/10). It must be a bad oil that got your bore kit mate. Motul, even in Synthetic format won't kill your engine this bad. It must have been a duplicate version.

It is 20W50. All UG 4 and above have 20W50, I am sure about that. You can very well use 10W50 or 15W50 or 20W50. The thing is make sure its a 50 after 'W'. Valvoline isn't something that is very popular and praised oil though I haven't tried it and actually not interested in it eventhough it comes in the required grade. If you are smooth and controlled rider, you can very well go with Motul 3100/3000. 3100 is a new product I guess which is Semi-Synthetic (Motul calls it Technosynthese) whereas 3000 is mineral oil. THey should be light on pocket too. Don't go for Synthetic oil, not worth it.

Keep your bike on main stand on a plain, level ground. Check the oil level from the watch glass to the right-down side of the engine, near the rear brake lever. It should be 3/4th full. You are seeing smoke in the exhaust, so most probably your oil seals are broken. Synthetics have the property of vanishing quite quickly in Pulsars. They are too fluid and too smooth. Check the oil seals and get them replaced. Change the oil to semi-syn or mineral.

And yes, don't rev the brains out of it. It would be better if the bike is transported to garage or service center instead of riding it there. Check the spark plugs to geet an idea whether the carb is tuned properly. Whitish tip of the plug = Lean mixture, Blackish = rich. Somewhere little brownish is good. Also, are you experiencing any drop in fuel efficiency?

i have a question that i want to upgrade the headlight assembly of my pulsar 150 ug4 of 2010 model, i want to know wether i can fit the latest headlight assembly of royal enfield thunderbird500 with projector on my pulsar 150 or wether i can fit pulsar 220 headlight assembly without the fairing on my pulsar 150. please let me know if it can be done, and also how it can be done with what modifications , i am in chennai and trust me there are no good mechanics here , they are simply dumbos, they just say its not possible . Needful suggestions are welcomed.

The oil level is too low mate. Get fresh oil ASAP. Also, please check the spark plugs and exhaust for oil deposits. If you find those areas oily then your engine oil is being burnt during fuel combustion. Oil level should be 1/4th free from the top level of the watch glass. If you are a sedate rider then go in the same order but I wouldn't advise on Castrol. There is a huge chance of Castrol being a duplicate.

1/4 free is what we should be maintaining the oil level as. Power 1 doesn't go well with our bikes so try to avoid it.

The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place. It will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.

Akash.Yadav : Bro In Technosynthese comes is 5100 15W50 (SS). Thats the oil I have used earlier, but it was duplicate or what I don't know but was awestruck with the amount of oil drained out. So I have decided to go for Motul FS 7100 20W50 (FS) from a registered counter. Lets see how it turns out to be. Earlier here as mentioned by Prince it is safe not to use FS for our pulsars, he has stated some reasons also. Just want to check the performance before I go back to mineral oil.
