  • Engine start ups

    I own a pulsar 150 cc , 2007 model, done 58000 kms.
For the past one year or so, i have been experiencing not so smooth engine running , when the vehicle is started for the first time in a day.For 20-30 seconds or so, the engine does not run smoothly , but after revving the engine at 4000 rpm-6500 rpm in neutral for about 20-30 secs continuously the engine comes back to normal smoothness.
This problem increases when the vehicle is not used for 2 days or 3 days continuously. The history of the vehicle is good and well maintained. what might be the issue?

    • Bajaj Pulsar 150 - Engine Corrosion

      Hi,

My Pulsar 150 (2006 - First alloy wheel model) has developed very severe engine alloy rust/corrosion due to Chennai weather. I have not been able to find a solution for this for a long time.

I visited Bajaj service centre and they are talking usual crap of throwing away parts and installing new. Checked online if there are heat resistant silver allow spray, but none are available in India.

What else can be done? Will post pictures soon to show you guys what is the real deal.

This is very common in 2005-2008 Pulsar Models. My bike has this big time. The solution is to make it run little rich (tune the A/F mixture to run little high) and then clean the carb with Acetone in any good Bajaj svc station. This usually solves with my 2006 Pulsar which stands still for nearly 6 months in Chennai humid tropical climate. I clean it with Carb clean before starting and works like charm.

How do we determine if the clutch is gone ? Or on the verge of going ? (P150 DTSi , 31k+ kms, recent used purchase)
I am not facing any issues while changing/accelerating , but the clutch action doesnt feel as "taut" , as I have experienced on some other bikes. While this makes very easy for newbie riders, like my wife, I am think that a replacement/overhaul may be due soon. I had factored some of these things before going in for a used purchase ,but not being very technically inclined, I am more worried about being fleeced by mechanics.

If its a used bike, it does not stop with clutch only my friend. You need to do point by point check since the old owner would have disposed it off after ruthless driving. Take it to a Bajaj Probiking svc and check with the mechanic there. I'm sure your list will be long. If you have any problem in clutch slip or hard clutch shift, then probably replacement makes sense. Since its wet-type, life is longer due to heat transfer. Do this instead. Check the chain tension and tighten if possible for time. Do it one by one to avoid flushing money.

your fork oil needs a replacement...!! And as it is leaking, probably the seal too...!

                  • 1 lakh kilometres on pulsar 150 dts-i

Last week my 2005 pulsar completed 1 lakh kilometres. The tacho reseted to 0 kms.
Bike gives FE of 35 in city.
Earlier this year i changed the rear tyre to 110/70 mrf zapper g tubeless. Now i feel a lot more confidant while cornering.
Got the headlight glass and visor changed and put the new pulsar's visor and also removed the saree guard.
I also got the clutch plate and clutch cable changed.
My bike easily touches 115 kph mark on highway and still return a decent FE.
The rpm meter is not working otherwise everything works just fine.
I am very happy with my bike. Thank you bajaj for so many memories.

It's so nice to see Pulsars crossing the 6 digit mark. Congrats bro.
THe fuel efficiency seems to be on a lower side but that is not majorly effected by the 110 section tyre at the rear. Get the carb cleaned and tuned, change spark plugs if needed, clean/replace air filter if need, adjust chain slackness and it will again come back to you with a sweet hug.

will k&n air filters do any good to the FE and accelaration ?
and my mechanic told me to replace the exhaust.. should i go for free flow one ?

I am old school kinda rider bro. I prefer to stick to original, helps in longevity of the engine and bike overall. Simple things like clean sparks plugs, air filter, properly lubricated and adjusted chain, properly inflated tyres, brake checks, good source of fuel do wonders. I am not in favor of FFE or after market exhaust so never looked up deep into it. My wallet too restricts me from going in that direction.

                            • Pulsar 150 DTSi UG2 Rear Shock Absorbers

                              Hello,

I have a 2006 model Pulsar 150 UG2 model bike. It has clocked over 63,000 kms. I have recently changed both the tyres, wiring & several accessories.
The bike's rear shock absorbers aren't being very functional from few years. But I have ignored it very long. I have recently took it to a shock absorber specialist who has dis- assembled them & filled up the oil & re-fitted them. Its still is of no use. Every time I go over a speed hump with a pillion rider, the centre stand scrapes the hump. And also the ride comfort has vanished completely. They have become very spongy.

I don't like the stock shocks very much, Please suggest an alternative shock absorbers for my bike which should be tougher than the stock ones & also mention the price.

                              Thanks & Regards,

Are those the Nitrox suspension? In that case, it would be time to replace the suspension or get it worked out by the service center. I can just add the tiny info I have but adding oil won't do the job. Even if that is possible, I believe the amount of oil used is less and that there is more air in the suspension setup than required. Too spongy means presence of more air to compress. I would however leave this for the experienced riders or PBK showroom guys.
