  • [help me] Guys, need help for my speedo upgrade!

    Hi guys,
I own a Pulsar150 classic, and i was planning to upgrade its speedometer from the old analogue one to the new digital version. A friend told he will get me a digital speedo in a few days. I was planning to do the installation myself. I know its possible and many have done this already
    So here's my doubt
Will it be a direct fit? (i know i'll have to change the speed sensor to a digital one. i'm concerned about the electrical connections)
If no, can anyone please help me with the wiring layout of the 150classic and that of the new speedo (searched xbhp, but read somewhere that posts regarding these were once here, and now deleted )
    Any additional precautions to take?

PS: i already have the wolf eye fairing on my ride

    • Pulsar 150 2010 model details and help on its Headlight

Hi guys I am new to this forum ...

I own a P150 2010 model , last year I changed it to HID projector costing 2k and it gave me good service till I went to Bajaj service for engine overhauling ( my bike ran for 46K kms)and they screwed up the wiring hence I changed the head light assembly to stock and replaced the halogen bulb with PHILIPS DIAMOND LIGHT 60/55W 5000K temperature, there is no flickering and no time lag in switching of beams but I sense a little drag in the engine rpm when all lights are ON. There is no flickering BUT I FEEL THE PHILIPS BULB CAN BE MORE BRIGHT.

      MY QUESTION'S ARE:-

-I WANT TO KNOW WHATS MY BIKE MODEL UG4 /UG3, IT MAY SOUND DUMB BUT I DONT KNOW.
-SECOND IS THERE ANY WAY, WHERE I CAN INCREASE WATTAGE WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE TO MY WIRING OF BIKE.
-I HAVE GONE THROUGH THREADS ON CHANGING STATOR COIL, SO CAN I CHANGE STOCK COIL WITH THAT OF A P180/P220(UNLESS I KNOW WHATS MY BIKE MODEL)

I AM LEARNING NOW ABOUT BIKES SO PLEASE EXCUSE MY LESS KNOWLEDGE ON BIKES .

      WAITING FOR RESPONSE

          Hi Friends,

I have been washing my bike by my own using car shampoo but this monsoon season has made it impossible for me to was daily. So I handed it over to my watchman who washed it daily. I have live with it even though i hated him the way he uses that dirty cloth on my bike.

Off-late, the taillights refuse to glow in the morning while going to office, in evening, the glow faintly. I suppose its due to water seeping into the taillights section but I am not able to figure out how. Opened the seats and tried to check for any moisture but none, still they do not glow. Covered the sockets of rear connection with a plastic but no success.

This has happened one more time during my previous servicing few months back but went back to normal after 2 days.

Need you help to figure out the issue and remedy for it.

          Thanks.

How is the battery performing ? Is it in good shape ? It could be the over loading of the battery as it has reached its end or simply its getting discharged at a faster rate than it is getting charged, to make sure, start your bike, on the lights in high beam, switch on the indicators and blow the horn too, check how good the horn sounds, if it is flickering then you can get to know the condition of the battery. Or it could just be the problem with the bulbs in the tail light section.

Do check this one too.. Press the brake pedals and check how bright they glow , apart form the illumination when the lights are turned on.

            Cheers

Since you are telling you own P150 of 2010 model then it is UG4, another way to identify is by checking the electric circuit UG3 have AC circuit where as UG4 have DC circuit. another difference is tank flaps UG4 have and UG3 don't.
              This should answer your question.

Use Avengers stator coil they have thick coil, don't use pulsars you hardly get any difference. I have done this mode in my P150 UG3 and I am using 100/90 Philips night breaker pulling as much juice as possible and I get sufficient light than the stock bulb, I have this setup from past 3 years.
You need to use relay and thick wire to get better results.

              Good Luck..!

                  Thanks Krish,

I replaced batteries some 18 months ago with Amaron Maintenance free one. Bike too takes self start even in mornings without any fuss, so I suppose the issue is not with battery.

As you suggested later, the light is constantly fainted and even with applying brakes, they glow only a bit better (as with normal taillights). I believe functioning of electrical is OK, the life of taillights has come to its end. I will check and replace them during my service due next month.

                  Thanks again.

                  Hi Friends,

I have Pulsar 150 UG3 and have completed 75k+ Km on it till now.

I will start touring on my bike either Solo or Group. Before that, I need to service my machine accordingly.

Bike has no major problems, so I have prepared general checklist :

                  1. Front shockup oil change
                  2. Front Brake Oil Change
                  3. Front brake disk and pad check
                  4. Rear brake check and replace
                  5. Engine Oild change - Synthetic Oil
                  6. Oil Cleaning and Greasing
                  7. Lights check - Headlights, Taillights, Blinkers
                  8. Spark Plugs - Check and replace

Need you inputs on what else should be on the checklist.

Also, I am planning to add headlights on the crash guard and relay them with high/low switch. To not overload my battery, I will buy addon battery and place them somewhere on the crash guard itself. Any help regarding this will be greatly appreciated.

                  Thanks.

Would like to add a few points, since the bike is 75k+ ,

                    * check the life of the cylinder /bore.
                    * change the cables and carry a extra pair with you while going for tours.
                    * get the ngk spark plugs, will give you a tad more FE, when touring it always helps with that extra mile.
                    * always keep spare key while touring.
                    * And about the headlights, if the touring you are about to do is involving a lot of night time travelling get the headlights upgraded, i don't think extra headlights will be any good other than a nuisance to the oncoming traffic. SO please try to avoid it.
*always keep chain lube while going for long tours or wet and dusty areas.
                    *tubeless tyre puncture repair kit

                    Cheers

Not a good idea mate. I am not even sure if this is possible considering the wiring alteration thereafter. Just think about it.

If you have your owner's manual lying around just run through the pages towards the end and you should have a fair idea.
                      I would recommend the following-

                      1. Compression check
                      2. Head/exhaust de-carbonisation
                      3. Replace the seat cover with new lining (not the foam actually)
                      4. Cables and grip covers (this gives a new bike kinda feel)
                      5. Bearings and fork cone set (optional)
My DIY(s) - Sprocket bearing change | Paint job | Custom speedo dial

Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.
A good mechanic will let you watch even without charging you for it. |
It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well
and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.

Compression check, De-carbonation and cylinder bore life check should be most critical things to be taken into consideration when my bike shows 75000 km. I will take everything into account what all is suggested to me.

Way to go mate. Just to make sure that you talk to the point to the mechanic, there is no way to check cylinder bore life specifically.

                          1. The compression test will tell you if there is compression leak (needs piston or rings or bore kit or all replaced)
                          2. If the compression is too much on the higher side which is due to sludge/gunk build up around the rings, this again needs treatment.
                          3. If there is head work involved, the valves, guides, timing chain, etc are also replaced.

Best suggestion would be to have the compression (dry and wet) checked in 2-3 shops outside Bajaj and once confirmed that it requires engine work, take it to Bajaj service center.
Report back with findings if you'd like and more suggestions.

Update of my 2004 P150 Dtsi, done 76000kms so far still going strong. Modification done - porting and polishing, NGK Iridium, SpitFire spark plug cables,
K n N Universal cone filter and also HID installed with Avenger Coil. Having run the bike with all this modifications for more than 30k kms, i can vouch that
Hamara Bajaj has to be one of the best. For me any bike quality depends on "how you maintain it?". i have tried to maintained it in good condition.
Recently i was getting bored of riding it as the pick up had gone down and i was not having fun in riding it. i was thinking of trading it for P220. I like P220 for its
raw power and projector lights. Last month i did normal servicing of my bike and changed the normal wear n tear items like both the brake pads, brake oil, fork
oil, kaichi(Scissor) bush and engine oil (Motul 5100). After completing the work, the bike had returned to the previous condition and also smoothness but still
something was missing, the FUN factor. i was thinking of what to do. As i have some knowledge of tuning the bike i tried tuning it to my style and viola, i was
surprised by the bike again. This is the second time that this bike has surprised me. Whenever i think of changing it, it always gives me more than i think.
Yesterday being a Sunday and also had some work did a total of 150kms of continuous ride with a break of 1 hr in between and never did i feel loss of power
after riding it at a constant speed of 80Kmph. It was like anytime you want power i have it kind of situation. Top speed of 115kmph.
Enjoyed it thoroughly and again i have to change my mind of not selling it.

Off lately I am getting a very annoying metallic sound on application of rear brakes, like a screeching metal whistling type of noise. I got my rear brakes drums cleaned since there was a worn out shiny layer which is quite common in drum brakes. This is a new pair of pads I got installed at ~10K kms on odo, current reading says ~14K kms.

My last set lasted 10k kms and after the replacement, I have been using rears quite less. Is this noise because of the pads again going glossy and shiny and smooth instead of the coarse and grainy it should be? Can this happen due to rain or moisture? The sound vanishes after I do some hard or continuous rear braking. Keep it overnight or for some significant time and TA-DA, the stupid metallic cry comes back again.

On other notes, I love the sound of the exhaust and that special whistling noise the engine makes, sounding like a small supercharger whine. Does anyone know how is this sweet sound made?
                              Regards,

The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place. It will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.

I got my rear brakes drums cleaned since there was a worn out shiny layer which is quite common in drum brakes. This is a new pair of pads I got installed at ~10K kms on odo, current reading says ~14K kms.

It seems like a problem with the alignment of the brake shoes with respect to brake drums.
You can properly align the brake shoes by loosening the axle nut a little and then rotate the rear wheel and suddenly jam the brakes.
While jamming the brakes tighten the axle nut.
By doing this the brake shoes align themselves in the drum, and believe me it makes a hell lot of difference in braking too...!!
The noise can also occur after pressure washing the bike or if the rear tyre goes in too deep in a puddle.

Love the sound right !!!!!!!Its one of the best things about the 150.
I personally love the sound it makes while engine braking on higher gears....
I think the majority of the credit goes to the Torque Expansion Chamber(TEC) for the characteristic noise it produces....
