Even if that is possible, I believe the amount of oil used is less and that there is more air in the suspension setup than required. Too spongy means presence of more air to compress. I would however leave this for the experienced riders or PBK showroom guys.
Yes, they are Nitrox Suspension. The stock ones at a bajaj store costs Rs.1570/-

Previously I went on to try & make it re-calibrated at a specialist & it didn't work that well. All he did was dis-assemble, filled up some lubricant & applied oil to the springs all over & fitting it to the bike. Charged me Rs.450/-
For a day or two it felt good. After that, to be honest it became worse. Whenever i encounter a pot hole at say 30kmph, the sound is horrible & the ride is nerve racking.
This will be the last thing IMO to be changed/dealt with with my bike. As I have sorted everything wrong with my bike.

So my question is, Do I go in for stock shocks or is there any better option that I can opt? To be honest I want my bike to be as stock as possible, but a comfortable ride won't hurt me as much.

Thanks.

I too am in favour of keeping the bike in stock condition for life long. The price doesn't seem like a bomb so going stock is the best possible option. I don't think we have any after market suspension components for Pulsar. Also, what I have heard/read on some forums is that Bajaj has got the suspension setup pretty appropriate as per road conditions that prevail here. For making the ride a bit more comfortable you can add padding to the seat, foam or gel pads may be. That will soften the feel plus stock reliability will be appreciated.

I went on & changed the seat padding a long time ago & also filling the tyres with nitrogen to feel some cushioning which the shocks failed to deliver.

Anyway I have decided to go with the stock shock absorbers.
Another blow to my wallet happened when I went to a mechanic today to tighten the chain. He said the chain can't be tightened anymore & that I need to replace the whole kit including the chain & sprockets.
I think I have changed that whole kit once like 3-4 yrs ago. Back then I used to give my bike to service at Bajaj service centers. Then the mechanic asked me to replace & I did.

What is the longevity of a chain kit? & is there a dust & water proof chain available for a 150? I want to ditch the chain covers.

Here is my spending list on my P150 recently to make it kind of new:
(Includes some minor spending as well other than the regular oil changes & maintenance)

RR Unit - Rs.350/-
Throttle Cable - Rs.150/-
Front & Rear Tyres with Tubes - Rs.4100/-
Headlight (Bosch) - Rs.70/-
Clutch Wire - Rs.90/-
Shocks Re-calibration - Rs.400/- (Total waste of money)
Safety Rod & Horn - Rs.840/-
Wiring Kit - Rs.680/-
Wiring Kit Fitting - Rs.250/-
Speedo Cable - Rs.90/-

Near future spend:

Shock Absorbers - Rs.1700/-
Chain Kit - Rs.900/-

Thanks & Regards,

The longevity depends on the conditions mate. How you maintain the chain drives its life. Proper lubrication and proper slackness will give you longer life of chain set. I too want to dith the chain cover and I asked our experienced folks out here. You can try for a P180 or old P200 chain sprocket set. They are O-Ring type chains and that gives the freedom to ditch the chain cover. I am not sure if its a direct fit to our bikes, you can check that out with the service center folks. You might need to remove a few links in the chain to properly adjust. There is a thread here in XBHP for World of Sprockets/chains or similar in line. You can find better info than Google

I am very much interested in the Bosch headlight. Can you give me the details of it and does it require wiring change or is it just a plug and play types?

Both p180 and p220 have longer swingarm than the p150. So if you go for chain/sprocket of any of them you will have to remove a few links. You should be able to fit the p180/p220 chain-sprocket easily. A well maintained chain/sprocket should last 20-25k . The stock chain/sprocket will not last long if you remove the covers. both the chain and the sprocket have to be cleaned and lubricated regularly to ensure longevity. The p180 chain-sprocket set will cost approx. 1200 rs
And about the shock absorbers, better remain stock only. Pulsar has good suspension. Or atleast the latest edition of pulsars are equipped with good shock absorbers.

Thanks a ton for the suggestions akash & shreyakms
I have changed the shock absorbers to a new stock ones. It cost me Rs.1,560/- & Fitting Rs.50/-
Coming to the chain kit, it costs Rs.850/- in the Bajaj Spare Parts Shop. I'm thinking to keep it stock & keep the chain covers. Will change it next month.
akash: The Bosch headlights were a direct fit but the brightness is same as stock (not satisfactory). A mechanic told me to get Phillips headlight with same wattage & its also a direct fit but the brightness is better than Bosch.

I have got another problem persisting with my bike. The Accelerator thing when twisted anti clockwise, it accelerates right & if we twist it clockwise it locks(in old model pulsars only). The thing with my bike is, its a bit loose & when it gets twisted the other way, it is getting stuck. I thought it was a cable problem & changed it but the problem still remains. When i asked several mechanics about a solution, every guy has his own theory. Some say change the set (The block containing headlight, selfie switch). While others say its a common problem & can't be solved. What do I do with it?

This sounds like the pulley might be getting stuck somewhere. When you are pulling the throttle it might be overcoming that stop and when you are releasing, it might be getting stuck. Have you check the cable cover, through which the cable goes? There must be some dirt accumulation that might be causing this. Check the spring of the pulley too. It is located near the carb. Get the freeplay of the cable checked.

Glad to know that the old baby is back to its original glory. How are the new shock absorbers? I hope they are doing better duty than the old ones.

Recently I spoke to a mechanic, he said the block which contains headlight, self start switch, inside the block there should be a stopper to stop the accelerator twist the other way after a certain point. He says its broken & if you change that block, everything will be fine.
I had the cable changed recently when it broke in the middle of my commute, so I thought may be the cable wasn't a genuine spare so its causing me this trouble.

Anyway, my baby is slightly far away from its original glory as we speak. She needs some minor things done. But we are getting there.
Its actually a gift from my dad, very much sentimental about my baby

About the shock absorbers, the awkward sound on every pot hole & stand scraping the ground on every speed hump is gone. An assuring sound like "thick-thick" comes rather than "tak-tak" whenever i go through a pot hole, that's a relief.
But big pot holes & 30+ kmph results that awkward sound again. May be am expecting too much, even from a brand new spare.

One more thing, is there a solution for the brakes squealing (both the disk & the drum), no matter how lightly I apply the pressure? Actually had it water washed few days ago, since then I have this squealing of brakes.
In some wheeler dealer episode, I have seen the mechanic Ed China applying copper grease or something to the brake shoes(not 100% sure) of a car to prevent it from squealing, is that the case with my bike?

Really appreciating the forum section to discuss all the issues of the bikes & the members helping out. akash, Thank you so much.

The squealing is very irritating at times and I can feel that bro. After the waterwash, for the rears you can get them to rub sand paper over the surface. The problem with drum brakes is whenever they get in contact with moisture, they tend to glaze the surface and become shiny. All we can do it get them sand-papered and a bit tightened. That does the work quite efficienctly, although their life is not that high as discs.

For the front brake, get those pads rubbed in too or get the whole kit disassembled and assembled back again. My P150's disc was stuck at one point as in there are two points in that assembly. They removed it, cleared all the muck and its working fine. Check if the pads are touching the disc too much since a little bit of touch is fine and happens. Actually are the pads fine,as in do they have the minimum thickness? That could be one reason for the squealing.

My 150's left side pilot lamp bulb has finally let out its final electrical breath after 2.5 years of lighting my immediate surroundings in parking lots.

I want to change the couple(left and right both) to a new, brighter set. Can someone guide me with this? And if possible, can someone please suggest a better illuminating headlamp to me? In darker conditions, my headlight seems to be sufficient but with thousands of always HIGH BEAM idiots in Hyderabad, I can't really make out where exactly I am going. One of my friend suggested that the Maruti Suzuki headlamps is a straight fit and provides better illumination. Its a Plug-and-play, but I am not sure about it.
