  • My RX100

    @ARGEE / Sriram

My RX100 has finally seen some light, it had come to Jaipur from Chennai after a long struggle with the mechanic....he had done some work...am not 100% satisfied with the work which he had done, but ok it is better than how it was earlier...

    Painting - Good
Engine - Smooth & decent pickup
Handling - Not so great as earlier
    Books - Clean

Spent - 12k for purchasing & almost 30K for restoration

No idea on what all he had done...bike was with him for more than 3 months & it was one hell of a time where I had left it un attended

Had moved to Jaipur from Chennai and had to leave my bike with the mechanic on his mercy...

you know I would have been the foolest of all for paying almost 5k for just transporting my bike from Chennai to Jaipur

Transported the bike from chennai on 21st March, recieved the Tickets & the challan by 2nd, couldnt find time to go and pick it up from the station and just today got to pick it up...Railways had charged Rs. 240/day for leaving it there
Never Give up on something that you can't go a day without thinking about.

    Cheers

Do you remember what was done to the bike? I mean, engine and cosmetic wise? Please post some pictures if possible.
      ------------------------------------------------------------

Clarification:- I'm not successful in getting the CDI for RX100, when asked around, was told that RX135 12v can compatible. Seniors/experts, please clarify.

      Things to be bought:-
      1. Carb float - Will be getting tomorrow possibly.
      2. Air Screw - Not to be found. If anyone could help would be appreciated.
      3. Neutral switch wire cap (black) - Still searching.

Railways is the worst and oneof the most corrupt modes of transporting your vehicles. 240 per day is silly! I bet u had to pay some bribe too while taking its delivery at the parcel office. Friggin everyone wants to make a quick buck in this country nowadays.

How come you are not getting chrome plating or is it the pic that looks different?
Any particular reasons for getting the axle rods coated as well, since they really don't show up?
Also, is the 6Ah ZMA's battery going to fit the RX?i have my doubts.

Those are not chrome but golden color plating. Not sure what it is called.

The ends of all the shafts axle rods etc will look golden color and thought atleast will not look some used!

It's not that huge battery, but a compact MF one. Also the previous owner had already modded the filter box to fit bigger battery. All I've to do is just plug and play.

Chennai might not sound so expensive, however, depends on where you give. Also, there is one Quality Metal works who does the chrome plating jobs for Enfields etc. After seeing their finish thought would give the old silencer and few fork T stem bolt nut plates etc. It's more than 10 days and I do not see any thing in near future. They are very busy! FYI.. RX Chrome silencer plating, they charger 360, bend pipe 80 and nut clamp 20.
They are slightly expensive than Industrial Area workshops.

Thank God only two wheels were to be made

You could have probably asked your workshop guy to coordinate these things for a small fee Instead of committing all this harakiri in summer heat or probably thats the way lazy people like me think

                  • RDD lighting kit

I checked the connecting sockets with that of wiring kit. And both the wiring harness did not match that of Lighting kit.

@Yamdoot:- I have attached some pictures for reference. Can you tell me if the sockets that you see matches with the RDD lighting kit that you also bought from Ron?

Here is a pic of my wiring for your reference. the green circle is the connector for the RR and the yellow circle is for the stator plate pin.

                            Hi Sriram,

Sorry for the OT. I believe information shared at right time will reach better.

For automobile components especially like fasteners have four types of coatings. But generally we call all as Zinc plating.

1, Cr3 yellow chromate (referred as yellow or golden color) Eg: spoke nipples
2, Cr3 blue chromate (bluish white color) Eg: wheel spokes and bolts

3, Cr3 green chromate (dark green color) Eg: TVS bike bolt, clips and nuts

3, Cr3 black chromate (black color) Eg: Bajaj bike screw, clips and nuts.

                            The plating steps are
1, Cleaning or polishing for soil, dirt, rust, deburing (on tumbler with abrasive tumbling media)

2, Cleaning the surface, which is normally done in alkaline detergent type solutions, followed by acid treatments to remove any rust or surface scale.

3, Depositing zinc: The work parts is immersed in a chemical bath containing dissolved zinc and a DC current is applied resulting in zinc being deposited on the work.

4, Dipping on trivalent passivates (dye based yellow, blue, black chromate solution) to get required color

5, final step and important (90% neglected at local plating shops) is called sealing process. which will seal the cr3 chromate over the base metal zinc and prevent from oxidation, corrosion and hold the color for long time.

Sealing process need work parts to be immersed at boiling sealant solution to close the active pores to form thin film coat.

Sealants are water based lacquering or Acrylic / Urethane / Polyester /Silicates or wax.

Also Cr6 hexavalent chromate (Iridescence is also done) It has better hardness and corrosion resistance compared to trivalent but cr6 bath are hazardous and leads to skin and respiratory ulcer for workers.
