  • Re: Random Questions regarding the RX series

A problem I've been going through my 5speed is that water somehow starts to seep into the carb after being soaked in rains.
It refused to start last month once. I drained the tank looking for water, but ended up with none. Opening the carb i witnessed water in the float chamber, and this happened again last week a couple of times where the bike stood in rains and water seeped nowhere but straight into the float chamber.
I plonked in new circle clamps on the hoses tight too, hoping the air filter hose might be the culprit but... nah !
    The problem still persists !

New cylinder kits are available these days, MRP around 8.5K, check with your region's Yamaha spares dealers.

Yamaha dealers usually take orders, if they don't, I am sure you can find a lot of Yamaha parts dealers in Mumbai. I am not from Mumbai so I have no idea where you can go to get parts in Mumbai.

Joing rx facebook groups, there are Chinese cylinder kits available in the market be careful.

Check yamaha showroom in malad road. Near to chincholibunder bus stop. New blocks are available there. Else you can check at the shop on the road perpendicular to chincholibunder stop which goes to malad station. If you ask him he will get you new block. My memory is bad so can't remember the shop name.
You will get genuine I series block.

Having some difficulty with the battery since I changed it wih Amaron ProRider 12V on December 2014, that battery went dead on March 2015(amaron guys changed it without any questions), again that replaced battery went dead on August 2015( this time also Amaron guys changed the battery after checking it for 24 hrs).

Now the thing which is bothering me is that which one is faulty, my Bike or the Battery.
I checked the charging voltage at the new battery terminals (after connecting it to the bike), while at idle the multimeter shows fluctuations between 8-11Volts, and while slightly pulling the throttle the fluctuations were in between 12-16Volts.

BTW I own a 94model RX 100 which is converted to 12V by only replacing the RR unit ( no change in the magneto coils)

                        Yamaha Rx100 = 1994 to forever
                        Honda Unicorn = 2005(sold)

Amaron battery is crap, I replaced them twice in my RD in a span of 6 months, having said that the RX 100 conversion from 6V to 12 V requires a coil rewinding (for sure) and a RX 135 RR unit change, the wiring in both rx 100 6V and rx 100 12 V is same. In case the coils are providing a constant ~12V at idle then most probably your coils were upgraded at some point in time.

Just changing the rr unit won't make your bike 12v.now It just can regulate to 12v. Anyway it doesn't matter since your bike was 6v. The voltage still producing might be 6v. Change the coil. Also check the current voltage using voltmeter. It might be near to 6v. If it's 12v it should be near to 14v.
