hi everyone,

recently i have bought a hjc rps-1o monster benspies replica helmet from RIDERS DISCOUNT

initially i planned to pickup a sparx s07 helmet but my budget got stretched and got this one.

it took nearly 45 days to reach my place(was with customs office for a month).paid a duty of 4k.riders discount guys were very much friendly in responding to the mails and very proffesional.

the helmet is very much light when compared to the ls2 dragon which i used to have previously.paint finish is excellent and not to mention that i am sold for graphics .

havent used the helmet extensively it.will post a complete review of it after some days

total cost incurred bro, if you dont mind? by the way, awesome helmet......... PRS had one which I checked and it was whooping 35 k but according to me, the quality is top notch.......

Finally got the SOL - 68s Model from Spartan ProGear. One word to describe Wow.. And also comfort level awesome, overall Am pretty satisfied

Im in the same situation. Thought of ordering online. My budget is a bit higher though.

1. Which would be the most reliable online store to purchase a helmet from: No clue. Experts advise appreciated.

2. How would be the mode of payment: Usually credit card or paypal.

3. What are the customs formalities: You dont need to worry. The store you're ordering from will take care of customs formalities.

4. How is the customs duty calculated: Depending on what you're shipping in and how much its value is, duty will be levied based on duty rates set by govt. on specific categories of items. IIRC, helmets attract somewhere around 10% duty.

IF you flip some pages back, one of the users here reported customs duty to be a hit or miss...i.e you might be asked to pay or it might clear through customs without a penny pinched from your pocket.

Ive also had some luck....I had imported some plastic\resin goods worth quite a bit, without having had to pay customs. One of my shipments was marked as a gift while one other wasnt.

5. How many days would be the the usual delivery time: Depends on the store and mode of shipping you choose\they offer.

6. Which brands can i choose from (less than INR 10K including shipping): No clue. Experts advise appreciated.

7. Are the customer care of these online stores reliable: Depends on the store.

8. What could be the usually shipping charges: Depends on weight of object and distance to shipping destination.

9. Since custom duty is determined later how can we pay the company and whom do we pay the custom duty to? : You pay customs duty to the Govt of India and not to any company.

10. Is there any chance of getting the same lids in any Indian store with similar or slightly higher price: Very good probability of finding sparx, kbc and airoh at similar prices. Sol retails here for much lesser than overseas.

Awesome bro!I too had a budget of 15K but then after checking out some cool lids available online the budget got stretched..and i ended up zeroing in on a few ubercool lids
This was 1 of them only because of the splendid gfx.But after going through all the reviews realised it wasnt worth the price point..it was available for 35K at performance racing just few days back but i guess its sold out now.
How much did you get it for, excl. customs?(you can PM me if you like)

well my studds has a clear visor can i change it ?options available ? cost ?
well its bit tight but the shop fellow told that it will get a bit loose and fit perfectly with some usage !!!!!!!!

Thanks buddy for the detailed reply. I am keeping my budget low as fellow user had mentioned in this thread that when the vale of the item is comparatively less it attract less "wrath" from customs authorities. Also I am bit worried about betting too much on this not so sure purchase.

Also i am still sad to say that there is plenty of info available in this thread but not enough to make solid decision. For example you have mentioned that helmets might attract a duty of 10% whereas various customs related websites says it can be somewhere around 26-30%. However in another user posting in this thread its 40%. So see I am really confused

Also I am aware that we pay the customs duty to govt of India (Hi hi i know that much!) But is it paid when we take delivery in the customs office or to the delivery people? does it come via courier?

If you don't take the dip, you sure will remain confused. There is enough information on this thread about customs and stuff.

If at all the goods are held back for customs duty to be paid, you will receive a letter from the customs, asking you to present yourself at their office (they will give you a local customs office address) along with the invoice of the goods. Once you show it to them, they will calculate the customs duty and you pay it at the post office and collect your goods.

So there is nothing fixed - either it could pass off customs, or it doesn't. so look for reliable sites as mentioned by many members here and take the dip!

Yup the helmet comes with the plain glass I just got the Tinted one separately. And regarding the 68s2 no idea bro, He told me that new model will arrive within a month but am not sure whether it has these models do contact spartan ProGear for further Queries.

Nope,AQ doesn't stock SOL.
You can get CROSS,LS2's and AGV off the shelf and HJC,SparX and other imports on order.

I remember there is a threshold value for the goods above which you will be slapped some duties. Not sure.

Oh...then ignore that part of my answer. I pulled out a number from memory. Not sure.
But going by harsha645's experience; with the cost of the helmet being approx. 25k on rider's discount and the duty paid being 4k, the duty amount seems to be around 20%.

+1 to shubz's post. No venture? no reward.

But at the same time, it'd be better to go for somehting that isnt easily available here. Low end kbc, sparx, hjc are not worth the trouble of importing unless you find them at awesome disounts like this.

I was planning to purchase a new helmet to eventually replace my CROSS helmet. I prefer a DOT/SNELL Certified helmet (althought it might stretch my budget a lot) . I was wondering how reliable and safe it would be to order one from an US based online store. I am sure many of you guys have done that. However, information in the thread is not enough to take a solid decision. Can any of you guys who have experience in ordering helmets from US based online stores help me out?

it completely depends on your luck,sometimes you can escape with out paying any kind of duty

RD guys are very prompt in responding to me,i asked them to retrace my parcel which helped me to get the parcel pretty early

you can pay the customs duty at your local post office

you can get few models here but at a higher price when compared to price in international stores

New Helmet

I have a few questions regarding a new helmet purchase.

1. I have read all the apprehensions of members about Daijya, but, wouldn't it be a better choice than Vega, Studds or even LS2 ?
2. The only way to get good helmets seems to be ordering online. What about the fitting? Wouldn't it be better to go for something a little cheaper if you can try it on rather than an expensive one whose size & fit can only be guessed?
3. Good (reliable) place for helmets in Delhi/NCR other than Meandering India and Adventure 18?

Cross and LS2 Helmets certification

Hi guys..I see a lot of guys purchasing LS2 and CROSS helmets. I also use a cross dragon helmet with ECE certification. I hear many people say here LS1 is DOT certified. Although both LS2 and CROSS are much better in quality (When i say quality i mean comfort, quality of padding, lock, low noise levels and external material used. I am not sure if it would better protect your head in case of an impact) compared to our ISI certified Indian helmets, I am not sure if the certifications on CROSS & LS2 are authentic. ECE Certification on my Cross is a sticker and not engraved on the helmet. Also I seriously doubt if they can manufacture helmets abroad import it to India and sell it at such low prices which have enough quality to pass DOT or ECE certification.

What do you guys think....? are the CROSS/LS2 users being cheated with fake certification claims or are they genuine?
