Projectors !! No way !! I am not a fan of those after seeing the intensity difference. And I really don't care a damn for on coming traffic on highways to use projectors

I am planning to strip the fairing for few months so the junk yard hunt

          • This is an amazing thread, i still have alot to learn about bikes. I am a newbie in bike world, i started riding last year. However i have bought new fz 16 few days ago, amazing bike but the stock lights suck! I want to install hid/ better lighting in it. the only thing i am worried about is warranty and also that will it fit in stock bike(that is no modifications to coils and things like that). I dont even know which service centre is good in mumbai, i also wanted to know where can you get hid and stuff in mumbai. Anyone who knows about shop where they fit/sell hid lights? I would prefer it if the shop is in between andheri and borivali, though i dont mind if its in opera house side/Town side. Anyone can help me here?
If you know the price of installing hid kit, please let me know, and also whether projector is compulsory when installing hid's, or if hid without projector is illegal or not!

well you can use osram nightbreaker 55/60W.... they cost around 700-800rs... after sometime when you find something that suits your budget then you can upgrade to HID and projectors....

but let me tell you one thing that the reflectors of FZ is the best in the class and have a clear cut off even with bixenons HID....

                  • I am in love with the looks of this bike!
I will install bi-xenons mostly, but will try the osram nightbreaker fist. Mostly white/blue color, i hate yellow color tbh. Thanks for the info!

now let me tell you the real story about the halogen bulb and why anyone should avoid it...I'll let the pictures do the talking

The pic shows that its one of the product from the 'Racing Type R' which have been manufacturing similar products since quite long...

But now this Bulb isnt any actual halogen as shown in the figure below...

Any stock bulb can be fitted with this blue transparent cover and made to act like a Halogen see this one...

I got to know this while i was riding when the following thing happened

These bulbs only change the colour of the light and infact reduce the intensity.Plus for this bike it took more than 3hours to just get this fitted ! yes its a tedious task and not a good sight your bike has to go through !

So it is the best to stick to the stock rather than going for such bulbs

                      • Nice of you to share the info. If you need intensity, nothing beats the normal whitish-yellow halogen bulb. These white-blue light are only for looks.

                        • +1

                          incident 1 :-

in my last visit to my mech, i happen to see an FZ guy coming to sort out his carb problem, he had a similar bulb installed.

as the mech was working on his bike, i happen to ask him about this blue looking bulb, he was boasting that its xenon gas charged and so and so, as how expensive it is and bla bla.

(he was lucky my bike wasn't around) and i was disagreeing and (as a layman) i wanted him to prove this higher output in flesh.
I gave a call to a friend (who owns an FZ with a stock bulb) to come over and we happen to switch them ON together, and the xenon gas charged ultra bright and expensive blue bulb was not even 50% as bright as the stock 35w bulb.

i loved the look on his face

he was too embarrassed to say anything further, and left.

                          incident 2 :-

a friend of mine recently bought a ZMR, we happen to go for his first service together, as his fairing and everything was opened up, we left to a car acc shop to buy a Phillips 60/55w halo bulb.

after coming back, we asked the mech to put this newly bought bulb as a replacement to the stock bulb.
The supervisor made fun of us that what are we installing is waste of money.

he was challenging that he has better bulbs that can outrun the one we brought along (no he wasn't talking about HIDs) and he removed these blue R type bulbs.

i kept my cool initially, but couldn't stand it further as this guy wasn't ready to stop arguing, i asked him to show me the difference, and he got taste of defeat.

i asked him to walk out and see my bike's headlight output (now we're talking) was lucky it was around 7, dark enough..
didn't see him talking anything after that

                          Bottomline is.
No matter what people say, the higher the wattage, the better the output, the clearer the glass, the better.
And HIDs come with ballast only, nothing else has a xenon gas.
Giving a lot to a fiero.
Expecting a lot from a fiero.

                            • @Nin, Nice update atleast your testimony will be an eye opener for many.

@Nano, There are Xenon gas-filled halogen bulbs available in the market but these are simply a standard halogen bulb that is either coated with a blue film on the outside and/or filled with a gas to imitate the look of a true xenon HID bulb. Obviously these bulbs produces much less light than a xenon HID bulb and often less than that of a standard halogen bulb.

                              Another update from Osram:

HLX XENOPHOT Technology for Improved Performance:

The HLX identifies lamps that employ XENOPHOT technology, an innovation first introduced by OSRAM. In XENOPHOT lamps, kryptonthe normal fill gas used in halogen lamps is replaced with xenon gas. The xenon reduces the rate of tungsten vaporization and allows for a higher filament temperature. Depending on the application, XENOPHOT can either improve luminous efficacy or can extend the lamps service life.

This is yet to adopt in automotive industry.
