I had the most scary experience.................... (since I could see nothing at all).

I am hoping to get something close to the legendary night-time ridability of Bajaj Pulsar 220F. So I think I'll need a couple of 55w HIDs, projectors, possibly a new glass and a new reflector (unless existing ones can be completely cleaned), rewiring of stator coils and a new battery. Any reliable place in Bangalore where I can get ALL of this done ? I don't have much free time or the tools required for going DIY. I'm trying to get all the above done for as less a budget as possible, but I need really good night time visibility (its a matter of safety here) as well as enough bargaining power when I flash my high beam at oncoming cars with high beams so that they're forced to lower their high beams.

And one more question: In an year's time, if I choose to upgrade to another bike, can components bought and fit into this bike be reused as-is ?
If u r planning to sell it off within an year then dont invest much on this, being with a TVS steed, u've great options without tampering anything out of stock. Just replace the HL assy with Amby sealed beam and plonk a branded 55/60W. U R Done, Samurai can take the load of a 55W without any stress to the stock wirings. If u need some respect from the on coming traffic, replace the HL assy with TATA ACE reflector, I would say its superb than the Amby and the cost of unit is less than 200 IIRC.

Converting it to full DC on a 2 stroke might be pain due to its stator design, so its better to stay away from such mods if u r planning to go for short term.

The bike isn't leaving, it'll stick around for atleast 5-6 years more minimum even after I switch to a newer bike for regular commute but then I wouldn't use it at night anymore

Could you elaborate on the Amby/ACE thing ? What am I supposed to replace where exactly ? And are you saying DC conversion is not needed on a Samurai to be able to run all the above ? What will be overall cost and is it road legal ?

Its simple bolt-on job if u go for Amby/Ace HL assy. Get a HL assy (reflector and the glass ie;sealed beam), suitable SS outer ring and the back cover. Make 2 holes on the sides to fix it to the stock brackets if required. Go for a good 55/60W halogen plonk it with a suitable H4 socket as the stock H4 socket will be different (U need P43t base socket) and forget it. Ride happily, no issues with the battery as we are not touching the electricals.

Approx cost will be less than 500/-

Can I retain existing back cover and ss outer ring, or is it needed to change the whole setup ?

Also, is it possible to plonk a 55/60w halogen directly into existing setup ?

Mine was non BCU model, so for me no smart box cheats were required, but its very easy like mentioned in the earlier posts. UG4 is full DC so its very straight forward mod than converting to full DC and installation of projectors. U need to open the HL assy and have to do some trials to get the best alignment for the best possible spread. Once u start doing this u'll come to know of what I meant by proper aligning. Do the alignments before fixing the outer glass so that u don't have to pry it out each and every alignment. Keep the bike on center stand, keep steady the handle, fix the projector+HL assy on the bike and then do the alignment.
And where to get these assemblies, as no one provides warranty, any ebay seller who is reliable?

                    • Hi All,

I am a proud owner of Yamaha RXG. I am using the same for commuting and touring.
I am very much satisfied with the overall performance of the bike. only the headlight intensity needs improvement.
is there a way to improve lightning like coil rewinding or some other way of generating more light.
can we do headlight DC by installing bigger battery.

                      any help will be appreciated.

                      Thanks

That depends on the HL assy u choose, in my case my back cover was broken, so I was not bothered at that time. Buy the HL assy and check it, it wont cost u a bomb man

Yes it can support a 55/60W without any modifications. I ran the setup for more than 2 years and nothing came up till I sold it.

Thats the real pain, find a local dealer who can give u the kit for at least 1 year warranty go for it. Dont be 'famished' by the rates from Ebay or similar online sites. Ebay guys r not reliable when it comes to electrical items like HID as they have enough reasons to list for not honoring the warranty.

There was special stator coil for running a 55/60 or even 100W halogen available for RX100, u can try that for RXG. Ask for the local stores, chances are rare as the model discontinued the production.

U can ping the fellow member aargee for more details, I guess he's still maintaining a RX100 close to his heart
