can you post more details. Which bike do you have . what kind of hid is it . Whats the steady current / amps what the hid uses . How was the hid connected . Is your bike ac / dc ? or you have converted it to dc.Originally posted by aryan rajvanshi View PostI recently installed an HID in my bike........now the problem is that as soon i turn on the HID my bike's horn almost stop working and in just 2 mins time my complete battery stops working including the HID.When i asked the person who installed that HID after 5 mins inspection he says that there might be a problem in your battery. But my new battery is just two days older than my HID.....i am confused because if i uses my bike without turning on the HID its battery is normal........so guys please throw some HID (oops!! light) to my problem. Its really urgent as my semister exams are going on and i don't have enough time to tinkle in between that HID and battery.Converting Halogen / HID headlamp setups to FULL LED.

i am desperate for the reviews of 55W HIDs.Originally posted by navnish View Posttesting the 55w HID
will soon post up a 35 vs 40 vs 55 comparision. The 55w hid is bright
@ shrini hold on for some time. I have ordered some fog lamps which are 4inches and hold a ballast and bulb in it . Will post more details once i get them
only a small query. i have 35W hid (which i got from u) on my P220. it working like dream. the 35W hid is a direct fit on P220. then what abt 55W hid?? is it direct fit? will the battery survive against 55W hid?? though the stock bulb is 55W only. but i think hid uses more power initially, i.e. while it charges itself for full output.Suzuki Samurai (2003-2004)

Pulsar 220 Lighting issues
Hi,
I have a pulsar 220 DTS-Fi, purchased way back in 2007. The projector headlamp is sweet indeed, but I wonder, is there any way to amp up the lighting cause I still find it rather inadequate for nighttime highway rides.
[Note - too broke for HIDs
]
I was running a RE Thunderbird with a couple of 35w foglights mounted on the crash guard, and a philips xtreme power 55/60w. That was very much adequate. I turned the foglights on very rarely, cause it drained up the battery very quick.
Now I've sold the T'bird, but have kept the philips bulb. The 220 already has a stock 55w halogen bulb, I believe. Now, I can either:
a) Put in the same config as the RE, viz, the Philips in the headlamp and one (55w) foglamp. Would that work ? I think the stock rr unit wont be able to take much more than this, if even this at all.
b) buy a bigger, better bulb and forget the foglamps. Say 70w or a 100w, Philips Xtreme power or Osram Nightbreaker, is there significant difference between the two ? Also, I think the reflectors could take 70w, but not sure of the heat from a 100 w bulb. Again, Im going by my measly arts background logic, please feel free to tell me I dont have a clue of what Im talking about. If i were an engineer, I d definitely shove a mouthful of technical terms in there
c) As the Americans say" If it aint broke, dont fix it". Leave it be, and take my chances as I am riding from Delhi to Bangalore in a couple of days, and it is not wise to mess with the bike at this stage. But the lighting will be a major issue in this ride, and one of the major reasons why I wanted to upgrade
Cheers

Firstly, your bike is not yet converted to full DC, the HID is powered from the battery but still on the stock charging rate, hence the battery drain issues. DC conversion means the entire generated power from the stator coils will first converted to DC with the help of a good regulator rectifier unit and it will be fed to the battery. The basic idea is support all the power requirements to be met from the battery with the help of boosted charging rates.Originally posted by aryan rajvanshi View Post1.unicorn

Your bike's got an electronic ignition for which the battery power is a must else it may show some hick ups like missing, starting trouble etc once the battery is down fully.
U can use the HID without any issues for hours and there wont be any miss firing issues once you convert it to full DC. Just follow the DC conversion thread to get an idea what has to be done.Do it Yourself, what so ever, if Possible

It happens just yesterday when i go to the battery shop, he check the battery ratings with the help of a machine and from its readings it is pretty clear that its the HID that is causing the problem.......then i go to the person who installed HID and told him the complete story......it took him 15 mins and costs 55 Rs for what he did and my bike's battery is back to normal,i can say that because last night i ride it for 55 kms with the HID switch on.He just installed a new switch to turn on the HID and the second point of the HID which is for the normal yellow light is still operating with the bike's switchgear....and yes HID is still getting on without turning on the bike's ignition,so i think it is on DC now but is it still converted to full DC or not ,i don't have any idea. So, what should i do now, should i ask for some more modification or just go like this only.

Seems you've got a HID+Halogen combo kit. Now the HID runs on the battery with a separate switch and the halogen runs on the stock AC and hence there's not much load on the battery bcz once it starts flickering the HID u can switch to the halogen so that it wont take the power from battery and in the mean time battery will get charged too. I think if you are seeking for a economic mod, this will do. U can use the HID on higher rpms say above 3K and if its falls below switch the beam to the halogen. Uni has got a smart charging system so it can handle a HID at higher rpms as one of our fellow member Shreeni had used the same setup with this.Originally posted by aryan rajvanshi View PostIt happens just yesterday when i go to the battery shop, he check the battery ratings with the help of a machine and from its readings it is pretty clear that its the HID that is causing the problem.......then i go to the person who installed HID and told him the complete story......it took him 15 mins and costs 55 Rs for what he did and my bike's battery is back to normal,i can say that because last night i ride it for 55 kms with the HID switch on.He just installed a new switch to turn on the HID and the second point of the HID which is for the normal yellow light is still operating with the bike's switchgear....and yes HID is still getting on without turning on the bike's ignition,so i think it is on DC now but is it still converted to full DC or not ,i don't have any idea. So, what should i do now, should i ask for some more modification or just go like this only.
Pls refer posts # 2381 & 2388 for a detailed note
Ask your mech to route the HID power to be routed through the ign switch with a relay, so that it will be on only if the ign switch is on. Power the relay from the ign wire and the contacts to be powered from the battery with higher guage wire if its not there.Last edited by sajjt; 05-12-2011, 01:24 PM.Do it Yourself, what so ever, if Possible
