1. have done coil rewinding on yor bike, coz at stock charging uni's battery won't last long with HID. no use of installing HID w/o coil rewinding on AC/DC bike, eg uni, rtr etcOriginally posted by aryan rajvanshi View PostHey guys!!! ,i am getting an local but new HID for 1100 bucks, and he is asking for 150 bucks more for the complete fit for my unicorn. But this HID was supposed to be my birthday gift, so budget is not a problem .But the problem is that there is no branded HID available here in meerut. So, my question is that, should i go for that HID or should i still ride my bike on the mercy of that idiotic bulb. One more question----1 day ago my bike's battery stop working,my bike is ridden 27,000 kms and i never take care of its battery as i do all the fancy lightning work on my bike,so is it ok to buy a new battery of the same company(AMCO) or should i go for a new one(AMARON) and guys please tell me the battery consumption of HID.Please reply.Thanx in advance!!!!!!
2. most local HIDs are 8000K which is not much useful. instead buy 4300k or 6000k HID from Navneesh. it will cost you much more, but it will be reliable and useful.
3. if the battery is very weak or more than 3 yr old then change it. Amron is good.

I am a bit confused (as always about electronicsOriginally posted by MotionFreak View Post1. have done coil rewinding on yor bike, coz at stock charging uni's battery won't last long with HID. no use of installing HID w/o coil rewinding on AC/DC bike, eg uni, rtr etc ....
) , as to why a 35watt (H4-mount) HID say of 4200k would drain battery and require rewinding etc ... phillips says HID consumes 50% less energy than an equivalent 35w Halogen , so did a car electricals guy I spoke with... so wouldn't it be the other way round ?? Or I am missing something here ??

Std 35W HID will consume less power than a standard 55W halogen as it takes only 35W once its in full brightness and provides almost or bit more than a 100W halogen bulb's luminance. HID need DC to work and most of the bikes are using AC for lighting. If you take the power from battery for HID without any modifications in the charging module, u'll end up with a fried battery as the stock electricals are not adequate to support a 35W HID not more than 10mins.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostI am a bit confused (as always about electronics

Guys those who are hell bent in going for HID on Unis, our fellow member Shree had already tried this and if you can keep the rpms above 3K its possible without any mods on the charging, but its tough to keep the rpms to that level during b2b traffic. So I would advice you guys to go for a H4 HID+Halo combo

Power the HID from battery and use it while doing a decent speeds like on highways and take the power from AC lighting to the halogen bulb and use it on city and b2b traffic so that if your battery drains too, you wont be left in the darkness. I think this is the most safest lighting mod.Do it Yourself, what so ever, if Possible

a) sounds reasonable . my headlight runs from the alternator and my battery was never designed to support even the stock 35w halogen bulb .( i.e cannot turn on headlight without the engine running ) .
So the battery may not have enough juice to run ANY 35w lamp (halogen or HID whatever) for more than say about 15mins ... ok .. got that .
b) This combo HID+halo bulb is a great idea for my kind of usage !!! Thanks bhai
!! What's more , even if my battery happens to runs out of juice , I can still ride back home safe ( albeit a bit slowly ) on the Halo filament running off the alternator !! Now you gotta tell me where I can get hold of this thingy and for how much ( in Calcutta if possible ) . Does phillips / osram make these thingies ?? ( I am wanting a 35w Halo+HID combo bulb only )

Guys, recently got a new bulb, OSRAM Cool Blue Mega which is of HS1 type and 35/35W so that was a direct fit. N the light is bit more white than blue as mentioned on the pack. Got it for 170 rs.
Also there was another bulb available, OSRAM Silverstar which was normal halogen but around 20% long beam and for rs 125.

I suppose you have a R15, how does this Osaram bulb work in comparison to the stock
R15's bulbs?

No dude i dont own a R15. But as compared to my stock Philips bulb, this bulb is as good as stock. Just one thing is that the white light gets mixed up with the surrounding lights and so sometimes u may not notice it properly.Originally posted by pravu View PostI suppose you have a R15, how does this Osaram bulb work in comparison to the stock

This type of HID+Halo combination is considered as the cheapest HID kit as the other telescopic versions will cost more. Only thing is you'll be partially blinded once you swap the beams as the intensity of the HID is 3 times more than a standard halogen, so your eyes will take a few secs to get a correct exposureOriginally posted by Pinaki View Post@sajjt

I hope you got what I meant.
Its not a unique installation as its already adpoted by many installers to take care of the battery drain and plus for a econo setup.
U can ask any accessory shops at your place.
Its the most easiest installation, only thing is you need to have to re route the AC lighting to the halogen and HID to be powered from the battery directly. Its better to leave those mods to the electrician for the peace of mind. 7AH batt can provide a max of 10min like in Uni without any charging boost. Doesnt have any hands on experience on a GS.Originally posted by kasperrmat View PostThats creative.I have a gs with 7 amp battery and 35w halogen bulb.I want to Instal halogen...Could you please enlighten me about the options that have to install the said twin hid/halogen bulb...like brand ,price and what are the precautions to be taken once the hid is installed on the bike.....

Its the ballast is 'AC' type but that doesnt mean that it will work on AC, I dont know how to explain it, but AC Ballast are known for its life span and performance. U can leave a query to the seller and get it confirmed before going for it. U'll get a HID kit with a lower price from the local shopsOriginally posted by Cyrus_the_virus View PostHere is an AC 35W HID kit i found, no need to convert to DC on this i guess:

@Sajjt, Dr, Nano, Abhi - I need a input
Planning to get the Hella Optilux Model 2020. It has both driving beam and fog beam. Looks tiny and cute. My whole idea is to bring down the fairing of my ZMR and use this. Can I source it in India. Reviews ? Can it serve the purpose if I get rid of stock headlight ?
