Solenoid Wiring
I got this used BMW projector from ebay; there are 3 wires coming from the solenoid. How to connect these 3 wires.
When I connect Orange and Brown to battery the solenoid is working and drawing 0.3A.
When I connect Orange and Violet to battery the solenoid is working and drawing 2A.
Can anybody explain the proper way to connect the 3 wires?

If possible try to post the details of solenoid . Is it possible to design/make it ?
Cause i got 2 H7 projectors, i want to make both them as Hi-Low by adding solenoid.
Check philips web for dealer in your nearer area , call him to check whether the kit available with him or not .Originally posted by Boris View PostGuys i want to buy a H4 hid H/L conversion kit (preferably 4200k).. In market various chinese made kits are available , some selling in at low price with no warrenty while others selling it at double price with warrenty .
If going for chinese kit then try to get 4300k ( hard to find ) with good deal .

I dont know much about Hid manufacturer, but i know that AC Hid kit cost less & last longer and much more reliable than DC one. AC hid comes with a DC to AC conversion kit i.e., mainly for cars which have DC power. Can't say about our bikes if this can be fitted or not. But expert says one should buy AC kit only.Originally posted by Boris View PostGuys i want to buy a H4 hid H/L conversion kit (preferably 4200k).. There are 24 red LEDs on the back which are running perfect.

Any suggestions?
Appreciate help from Mumbai - Pune guys.Originally posted by amit71176 View PostSorry to say your LED's are blown out. This happens because of your resistors, if your resistors are of lower ohms then they tend to get warm faster and this leads to flickering of your led's and then eventually blowing them out. If it was a DIY job then along with the leds replace the resistors as well, replace it with higher ones.Like say if you were using 100 ohms then go for 200 ohms, this will help you in extending your led life.Originally posted by abhijitkn View PostHi Amit,
Thanks. It was not a DIY job..I bought the tail lamp.
Is it still possible to replace the resistors?Originally posted by sajjt View PostAftermarket stuffs are a pain once u get into some issues.
For choosing the resistors for LEDs, u can refer:
Current limiting Resistor calculator for leds or
LED calculator for single LEDs
LED Calculator - Current limiting resistor calculator for LED arraysThanks a lot. Amit71176 & Sajit.Originally posted by abhijitkn View PostThanks...will try & let you know...
I found out that 2 LED were damaged. Bought new 5mm 1400 MCD LEDs & replaced the damaged LEDs. Also I bought 120 ohm resistor but didn't change the resistor yet, because I think water damaged the LEDs. Tail lamp is working fine now.
Will wait for few days & see.

Not sure if you can add solenoid by yourself because they are built into the design of the projector.

The solenoid in this URL is exactly the same which I got in mine.

Here are mines . One is dismantled to show its parts .
Check it & tell is it possible to make them work as high low by lifting that metal plate .

I am old school, the days when Halogen bulbs were like the HIDs when this gen got to hear of it. Most of us used to all nights on the highways, ( a few of us do nights these days for different reasons) Almost all cars/jeeps and even bikes that went out at the night had atleast a pair of Aux lights. Even though we have more reliable bulbs and electronics these days, the ones that grew up with MMs Fiats and Ambys know how to fix most of the things. It was DIY all the way back then if you were the motorist, most cars had fanbelts, hoses, and almost a complete toolkit even with a feeler gauge ( tappet). Since function rates more than form in our old books, I would love to see the Aux setup on all bikes here. We all know a halogen bulb probly lasts more than the first ownership. Any aux setup here? Can even be HID but has to be AUX, a direct batt tap with fuses and works. Looks can take a back seat since it will be used in some remote place/ touring/ jungle. There must be someone that has had it done to his bike out here!Last edited by Da1AnOnlyHermit; 11-26-2012, 06:42 PM."Does zebra have stripes?"
