Regarding the bike slowing down check the throttle cable and for over tightened chain.
Thanks a lot, I'll definitely check out the chain.
How exactly does the swing arm shortening affect things? I'm kind of a "noob" when it comes to anything technical about bikes although i am eager to learn.

Buying a second hand Bajaj bike is not a good idea. I was an owner of a Bajaj Discover second hand bike for 2 years. Your driving style might be different from the previous owner which can make some excess wear & tear to the machine. Though Bajaj spare parts are cheap and easily available, you need to spent more time to maintain your bike in good conditions when compared to Yamaha or Honda. You need to check the bike with your trusted mechanic before making the final decision. I hope experienced Pulsar owners from this forum will help you the things to check with.

Depends on lotta things. But 35k seems too much for any pulsar unless it's a 220/200.

Cant really tell everything here. Check for engine head/valve clearance noise, rusted silencer/fuel tank, tyres, bent alloys, electrical mods that messes up the stock wiring, Sprocket & chain.

Take a mechanic with you if you don't know what you are doing.

          Cheers,

If all depends on the bike condition I had sold my pulsar 180 ug4 with very good condition for 65000 rs. 1 year back.

Depends on where you are buying it. If you are buying it in Delhi , 35k is too much . But ultimately be very careful . As a golden rule always take a mechanic before you make the transaction . Don't just go by the odo reading because it can be duped.

Unless you have really good experience it would be difficult to judge the engine condition just by the sound. Major cost would be in replacing the carburetor, clutch plates , piston , cylinder , valves , timing chain, chamber etc

Apart from the engine check the condition of the tires. Check for damaged/scratched body parts concealed with tape .

I would always advise to go for a new vehicle because chances are that after putting in 35 k you still might spend money in repairing it every now and then . The installment/emi you might pay for a new vehicle might seem a little too much right now but you can rest assured you won't be regretting it .

              • Sporadic starting issue

I am facing random starting issues on my Pulsar 180 UG3. The bike refuses to start after a long switch off period, say overnight. No sparks are produced on both the plug wires. However the bike starts if i put it in gear and jump the clutch on a downward slope. Once the bike starts the problem does not occur and it starts properly afterwards.

I changed the CDI upon mechanics recommendation and the problem was solved for a week. But it has resurfaced again

My mechanic seems clueless and wants to do some trial and error. I am not sure if he can identify the root cause. Also scared he will go and replace all possible parts to solve the issue.

Any suggestions as to where i should ask him to look at?
                TIA

I remember, my friend also had this same problem in his Bajaj discover 2 years before. His mechanics also suggested to change the CDI but the problem was not solved. He was able to push start. And some times just shake the entire bike with holding the self start button was able to start the bike. Later we found the actual problem, it was a loose connection due to partially cut wire. So request you to check the wiring.

Can anyone tell me the check list to prep the bike for a long distance travel? apart from the usual service what are the other points that I should be keeping in mind? My plan is to ride from Bangalore to Pune. Earlier I did a ride from Bangalore to Coorg and after 3 hours of continuous usage, the bike started to vibrate a lot. I wish to avoid this.

Get good quality oil, preferably ss or fs and keep spare oil in case of emergency. Spark plugs, cables, electric tape, chain spray, knife and tools. Check tappet and afr settings. Grease all lubricating points and lubricate chain. Use the bike for atleast 2-3 days after service to ensure its done properly and bike is performing good. This should be good enough.

Thank you. Will check the pickup coil for loose contact. Any way to check if the pickup coil is working fine or not?I mean is there anyway to narrow down on a defective pickup coil?

For a highway ride definitely get fully synthetic oil, due to the fact that you would be riding continuously on a high speed and for a long duration where mineral oil looses their viscosity and lubricating properties. My advice get motul 7100.
Along with that clean the chain with diesel and then lube it properly. And keep a tubeless punture kit with you
                            Peace
