  • I dont know if I should be posting it here but couldn't think of any better place than in this thread.
I have a P180 UG2 (sep,2006) - Analog meter, black alloy wheels. Have done more than 50k on my bike.
Just wanted to share my experience on the bike. I would like to know from fellow xbhpians who have ridden or still
ride the same model (UG2) that what is the best crusing speed on this model ? I believe its 60kmph. I feel so because
when its ridden at 80kmph it feels like its making quite an effort and when its ridden at 100 , forget it because then it
feels like the engine is working really hard to maintain that speed. Also the overall sound that comes out of the engine
and the silencer also has to be considered. However, at 60kmph it feels effortless...

The resons behind this is probably the engine set up and the gearing to some extent. I believe the new UG4 is
comparatively a refined bike and is tall geared compared to the UG2. So please pour in your opinions guys.
Do you guys feel the same about UG2 ? Are all UG2s like this or its just my bike ?

    Have another query here :-
Just recently I have installed a new chain-sprocket kit. Thats when this thought came to my mind about whether the
chain-sprocket of the new P180 UG4 will fit. However, as per the thread - "World of sprockets" by samarth 619 it seems
that its not possible. However, there is another thing that I would like to ask here is whether the chain cover can be
taken off ? I know its there for a reason but still. I believe my bike doesn't ve the o-ring chain. So the question is how
long will the exposed chain sustain. I mean how often should I clean and lube it. Is it okay to do so ?

Please share your views. Thanks !

Tensioner Assembly Changed4. Piston De-Carbonizing Done "After removing the head they scratched the piston head and removed all the carbon n washed it with petrol"5. Carburetor overhaul/servicing done6. Clutch Cable ChangedNow after all this my bike is stalling a lot when the engine is cold in the morning. Seems like it is not able to breath properly. But when after some 7-8kms it comes to normal but still this problem keep on coming in between on its own. I cannot understand weather if it is a problem with Valve Timing as Timing Chain is changed or Carburetor. I came to know from someone that this seems the problem with the valve timing as the missing is there when engine is cold... I need a help on this guyz... Please throw some light if anyone had this kind of problem...
Well I'm assuming that the mechanic aligned the camshaft properly ...You can also check your sparkplugs for fouling and also check the clearance of the intake valve
If the clearance is too low then it will definitely give problems on cold starts
        Do get the clearance checked.

UG4's kit has a bigger chain length than UG2/3. But that is no problem, as I have UG4's kit in my UG3 (although at the very last setting of adjustment). The bigger problem is number of sprocket holes in these bikes. UG3's rear wheel has 4 sprocket fitment holes. Same for UG4. But UG2 has 6 holes fitment.

You can do a little bit of overgearing without any problem. If your stock teeth in the rear sprocket are 42 teeth (please do check this), then you may fit a 40 teeth from LML Freedom. In case that doesn't work out, try 40 teeth sprocket from FZ16. That "might" fit.

And you can keep the chain open, but I strongly suggest getting a plastic chain cover from Discover 135 Sports.
Even in my UG3's older (stock) chain sprocket setup (which was not an O-Ring), I kept the chain cover open and it did not give me a problem. Sometimes, I cleaned it up using chain sprays (don't use old engine oils to lubricate the chain, they attract dust).

See my this post of keeping open chain covers on normal chains: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/universa...tml#post146406

And one more thing: I will never sell my Pulsar 180 UG3 even if I get a new bike. I spent a big portion of my riding life on it. Its balance of durability, function, design, modification capability, stunting capability, etc. is just right for me. Did 570 kms/ day trips, she never broke down. And she still rolls on, responding favorably to the modifications I did, thanks to Joel.

Thanks Samarth for your inputs. Appreciate it. I believe the UG2 has a 15/44 (or 45 not sure) set up. So if I install a 40T sprocket from Freedom or FZ-16 then can I keep the same/original 15T front sprocket ? And while doing so do we ve to use a new/different chain or the same chain will do ?

And could you or somebody pls respond to this part from previous post - "I would like to know from fellow xbhpians who have ridden or still ride the same model (UG2) that what is the best crusing speed on this model ? • I'm new to xbhp. I got my pulsar 180 UG4 last week, I don't know much about bikes. I have some doubts.

                1. Which company petrol is best for pulsar 180 UG4 ? My friend who is having this bike for past 2 years said BP is best, also said he is getting 2km extra mileage. another guy told SHELL is best, BP having some impurities in petrol, so bike will turn off suddenly.. I'm confused.

                2. Will mileage improve after first service.? Now I'm getting 35kmpl in city conditions, will it increase after 1st service.

                Comment

                • The brand of the petrol doesn't matter, what matters is the petrol pump, always fill from good reputed ones. As for me, it has been 2 years since i bought my 180, and my bike works fine, whatever the brand maybe, somtimes i think the quantity was less but never the quality. Yes, the average would increase after 2nd service. One more thing, don't use bajaj engine oil, always get motul mineral oil till 3000 kms and then switch to motul semisynthetic oil (5100)

80-90 kmph will be a good cruising speed, even my P150 is at ease at speeds of around 80 kmph.

@princesirohi - Thanks for your input mate ! Now does that mean i have some problem with my P180 UG2 ?
For me its around 60-70kmph where the engine is fine. But at 80 and above it really becomes loud.. or is it my perception ?
May be I am comparing it with the new versions which are much refined and silent.
