Go with stock set only for front
            Zapper FS. Very good control.
At rear try Zapper Vyde if you haven't yet. and Stick to 120 section only. Provides better overall control of bike

but, heard that its doing greate with R15 front tyre..stock front is reallly skidding like hell.now i am riding it without confidence...any noticeable difference will happen in performance just by updating to 130?dont know why but i dont like the thread pattern of wide..and some guys says that it will wear out faster..anything like that?

              • chain making jerking sound

                Hi Guys,

I have P180 UG4 and while driving chain makes jerking sound. I showed it to service guy but he said it happens just use chain lube spray and this sound will not come. I bought a chain lube spry and applied it but still same issue. I consulted another mechanic he said that chain is tight and also loose at the same time(don't know what that means) and that could be the case of chain sprocket has gone so you should change chain sprocket. Bike is just 6 months old.. how come the chain sprocket go down so easily as I never drive it fast or rough. Does chain and chain sprocket comes under warranty cover so that I can get it changed from service center.

                Thanks

I agree. I don't have good experience with stock front tyre. I don't like it at all. It has hampered my confidence too. R15 front tyre is said to be great.
About rear tyre, you could fit new R15 2.0 rear tyre. Although it's 10mm more wide, my next door guy who fitted it on P220 said performance has increased a little instead of hampering. Looks like yamaha or MRF has done some work for reducing radial friction. Only one demerit of that tyre is that wet grip still sucks like the stock one.

I don't think sprocket has gone kaput as the bike is very new. Probably the chain is too lose or too tight. Also see if the chain tension screw/bolts which are present on sidearms are equally located. If they are not equally located then also chain makes noise and it'll also reduce sprocket's life.

if you go to 130 section, obvio, there will be more rubber so lower top speed n acceleration, plus 130 section will rub against inside of chain gaurd metals. That's what was told to me by my mechanic. Yeah, people have used r15 front. That's upto you to try. Regarding, wyde, it is soft compound, so definitely wears out sooner. Mine lost center threading in 18k kms, but that is when my style was mostly is high speed ripping. The major difference I noticed was I tried cornering on an new pulsar with stock and then on mine, wyde definitely does it better on corners

                      • Hello Xbhpians,

This is my first post on the Forum.I have few queries regarding my Pulsar 180 which i hope will be answered here.

Bike - Pulsar 180 UG3 2005 Model (7 Years Old). Odo - 41,572 Km. My queries are listed Below.

1.Recently a sound has started coming from the exhaust of my bike. I showed it to a mechanic and he said that a ring from the opening of the silencer has fallen inside it which is causing the sound, this will need a complete replacement as the ring cannot be removed by any means. Now my concern is I installed this silencer just 2 years back i.e. in June 2010, so Should i invest in a new silencer which would be costing me around 4.5k? Also i am a bit skeptical on how long the new Silencer would Run.
2.The next query is regarding the Engine Rebuild. Is there any relation between the Silencer going bad because of issues in Engine itself. If Yes then what would be the cost for an Engine Rebuild. I stay in Pune. Suggestion for a good mechanic in Pune for Engine Rebuild are welcome.

3.Considering change in Silencer + Engine Rebuild costing me around 12-15 k. Would it be wise to sell the current bike and invest in a new one?

                        Your suggestions are kindly awaited.

                          1. Well people here do say that there's nothing we can do what goes in silencer. It's probably can't be opened. Maybe you should check it at another mechanic.
                          2. Look at the odometer, I really don't think your bike needs engine overhauling. Generally people do engine rebuilding after 1 Lac km. Maybe you just need to change the clutch plates. I maybe wrong but I don't think engine can cause damage to silencer exhaust system. Silencer is itself one rugged piece of metal.
                          3. I'd suggest, get an opinion from second mechanic. If that's going to cost around something like that, in all realness it's better you sell the bike.

Can I suggest something crazy? Can you locate from where the sound is coming from exactly? Try tying a good magnet there and probably the sound will go away. You could try rear-earth magnets, they are powerful. Also know that high temperature and magnets don't get along very well.

                          • Thanks lockhrt999 for your inputs.

This weekend i took my bike to a mechanic in Sanghvi Pune. He checked the bike and suggested change in the Silencer, No Engine Problem and I was relived to hear that.

I replaced the Silencer and now the Bike is running butter smooth. The silencer cost me 3.6k. I am happy with the current state of my Bike.

                              • Pulsar 180 UG4 - 3 Year completion service. - Query Service

I own a champagne Red Pulsar 180 UG4 and this baby has completed 3 years. Maintained anew with regular service and Moto Gold 20W50 Oil. Changed Sprocket and chain at 17500km(which costed me Rs1200 alone).

My query to fellow xbhp'ians is on 2 problems that I am seeing:

                                1. Thinking of changing Spark plugs as sometimes bike misfires and just stops in between during starting or at low revvs. Although this can happen as its tuned to very low idle rpm 1100. should the spark plugs be changed? Service center guys wanted to changed it at this service itself(36 months) - but they were talking of changing a whole kit - spark plug - oil filter - some bush for self start which again will cost 1200 as a kit. Later asked to Bajaj Parts shop - he told that Rs79/- for spark plug (seriously isn't this cheap <confused>). Any suggestions on kit - what is this kit funda that khivraj Bajaj have in bangalore.

                                2. Once I had not used bike for 10days and once I came back saw the oil level go completely missing from the oil level glass indicator.. No option tried starting and it got started after pushing and around since no kick.. . But later oil started showing up to proper levels once bike had been running for some time.. is it really normal?
