  • Till now I just traveled 300 kms in my pulsar 180 ug4. My mileage varying 35 then 48 but today only 30 kmpl. Really worried about this varying mileage. I won't cross 50km or 4k rpm.

Is it normal before 1st service.? Will my mileage increase after service.?

      1. how do you calculate mileage ?
      2. Did you fill up from a different bunk this time ?
      3. Mileage will improve a bit after the bike has run around 700-1200km. So there is nothing magical that is going to happen at the first service.

the mileage you are getting is fine, and nothing to worry (i suspect you have either not calculated the mileage correctly or filled up adulterated fuel). A well maintained p180 should give you between 35-45 km depending on riding habits/conditions. Just check your engine oil level everyday.

ofcourse YES! provided it is in good running condition. Take a break for 10 mins every after every hour of riding if you are riding in very hot climate, this is good for both the rider and the ride.

        • Thanks for replying i was just confused because it is an air cooled engine and all that. yes my bike is in a very good condition, 2.5 years and just 14000kms(haha)i'll be changing the engine oil before the journey. As it would be highway, the speeds would be on the higher sides for the maximum time, so should i go for semi synthetic oil(motul 5100) or fully synthetic(motul 300 V)?? and what other parts should i change?? The spark plugs are new, disk pads are new, drum brake shoes are new, cluth cable is new. What else air filter??
          Peace

          • 1. Calculated by reserve - reserve method.
            2. Used same petrol bunk only.

I guess I missed something while calculating mileage.

            Thx for the reply.

Try the tank full to tank full method, and this time try a different bunk

Change the oil, 5100 should suffice. replace the air filter if you haven't in the past 14000km (its cheap) or at least get it cleaned.

                  • Yes, the airfilter is stock but i clean it regularly at home. I'll change it.The engine is getting very hot these days after just 5 minutes of riding, any idea what may be the reason? And is it ok to pour water on the the hot engine to cool it during long journeys? Specially during summers

'very hot' is a relative term unless you are noticing significant differences from earlier. could be due to a lean mixture, turn the fuel screw out (anticlockwise)a bit (say around 1/4th turn, if you do not know which is the fuel screw, it is the smaller 'brass' screw on the carb, the other bigger one with a spring on it is the idle screw - after turning out the fuel screw a bit, you may need to then adjust the idle using the idle screw to get a steady idle) and observe. and hope the spark plugs you replaced are the ones recommended for this bike (check your manual for the correct part/model #)
And its always good to take a 10 min break after every hour of riding.. helps both the bike and biker to 'refresh'.
AND NEVER POUR WATER ON A HOT ENGINE / EXHAUST - !! THIS IS NOT WHAT THEY MEANT BY LIQUID COOLED

                      • I was thinking of pouring water efter every hour to make the engine cooler hahahaha

Guys today i cleaned my ug4's chain with diesel and later on i applied motul's chain lube on it, and believe me guys, the ride is now AWESOME, the sound of my bike has now changed completely. It is worth every penny spent on it.(480rs)

And to all those guys who are using fully synthetic oils in their bikes, motul 300 is not the right oil for your bikes, the right oil is motul 7100. Today i went to the main dealer of my city(jaipur) and he was a very nice guy, he explained me that for a city based biker who ocassionally rips the bike, 5100(500rs) is the best oil. And if a person is ripping his bike all the time and wants maximum performance, motul 7100(750rs) is there for his ride. Even for pulsar 220 its the same. He even showed me a chart from motul that says the same.

                        • Clear my doubts please-Pulsar 180

                          Hello friends..

This is sathish, and i'm new to this thread. But i used to read lots of DIY threads and Reviews. I own Pulsar 180 UG4.

Here are the issues i am facing in my bike:

                          1. Head lamp
                          - Is it illegal to use white headlamps?
                          - What is the allowed headlight power by Indian government?
                          - If it is illegal, can we continue using the white headlight with lesser power rating.
(I heard that white lamps are powerful than yellow halogen lamps, so I thought its better to have white light source producing same vision with reduced power)

                          2. Brakes
                          - In my bike rear bread drum is not working perfectly. It locks most often, making some metal "Tappp" noise. Is it related with need to change break shoe issue?

                          3. Engine noise

                          - What could i do to reduce the engine noise in the bike. It became more louder and harder, it lost its smoothness.
                          - Is it common for the pulsars to have the engine noise like more or less same as turbo-engine sound after high speeds? (more airy "ssssssssss" sound)

                          4. Vibration
                          - My friend says his UG2 150 is better than my UG4 180. While sitting behind me, he says that he can feel the vibration through foot rest and through the seat. I feel bad when he says like that. Is there anything i can do?
                          - The console unit shakes like anything on some times, and it will be on its place peacefully on another times, the thing is, i noticed on same road, exact place.

                          5. Air pressure
                          - What should be the air pressure on both front and rear? I used to keep the pressure as 28/30. (Bike has the marking as 28/28 for single passenger, 28/32 for double. Since i ride the bike alone at most of the times, i keep the pressure as 28/30.)

It is OK, if it cannot be fixed or it is normal. All i want to know is the reasons behind everything, and is there anything that i can do for making it right.. Thank you..

                            • 1) i am also fed up by the intensity of my bike's headlight, what i have come to know is that the white light has a very poor visibility during fogs and rain so forget this idea. Get a philips 35W bulb, it is better.2) get your new brake shoes, and if the problem still exists then report it to the service centre guys.3) engine noise: how old is your bike?? How many kilometers have you ridden??get your bike serviced in time, change your engine oil, get the mtul 5100(the results will come after the third topup, means when you will use the the third can), it will definately improve the engine noise.4) vibrations: forget about your friend's opinion (my friend says his apache show 160kmp/h top speed )vibrations will decrease after changing the engine oil. Get the engine oil chaged at 2000-2500 kms and the get your bike serviced after 3 months.5) 28/32 will be fine
