Tried cleaning plug(It was dark black, only yesterday I got it cleaned, but became fouled again) but to no avail. Went to a spare parts shop nearby, asked for non-resistor type. He had only the same UR3DC for Pulsar and NGK resistor type with him. Bought NGK (genuine Hero Honda spare) for Rs.110 as I had to reach office soon and Yes, the bike fired to life again. And the acceleration became smooth, less vibes etc. Don't know how when it is going to stop again. As you said, its all because of sole reason - the damaged bore!I have been Planning to get it rectified for a long time, but had to skip each time due to other priorities.
are you using recommended heat range plug?? I think recommended ones are UR5DC.UR3DC are too cold.. but still they should not foul if every thing is fine..

I know, Im too cautious but I love her, & care for her too much.. :P and most important every time tilting it to right is irritating.

What I purchased yesterday is NGK R plug, genuine Hero Honda spare. Nothing mentioned in the pouch, like in what all bikes this suits etc.
Rode around 25kms with the new plug, running fine for now
(My engine bore is not good and drinking oil for the past 7k kms)

Yep.. Not serious. One moron hit me on front wheel with Royal Enfield while I was waitng, standing still with bike to enter on road. I saw the reason why it turns more. The place, where moving handle and chassis get locked and prevent further moving of handle is eroded a little. So the gap of 0.5 to 1 mm is created. May be I should leave it as it is or get a little spot of welding there from stove repairing guy. Electric welding is not so accurate, so I thing it will **** up the thing.. O

Have you looked at GS 150 ? but i think xtreme is very cheap to own - you wont be spending a lot of money unless you end up with a lemon like me - you will get all the spares outside from spare parts shops 1000 times faster than any SC - which is a added plus - for example i ordered the front cowl 3 months back and the SC still have not managed to get one - fed up i went to a small spare part shop and he got one for me in 2 days flat lol - you wont like it on the highway that much - it feels good till 90km/hr but it will cruise relaxed at 80km/hr all day if you want - i myself going to put back the unicorn front sprocket next time i go to tanjavur - this trip i do every month .

I always change the spark plug every 8K kms and the air filter every 5-6K kms as this is the only proper "service" my bike gets - i think its dirt - take out the front pad and clean it will take just 5 mins to DIY .

Managed to get the KBX front pad from a spare shop for Rs 140 - this is the best pad for the xtreme - remember my brakes were feeling spongy a while back ? i bleed the brakes many times and even got a new unicorn "eco" pads but the brakes still not felt right - the SC people as usual said the brakes were fine - suspecting the "eco" unicorn pads i asked around for some other pad and as luck would have it this guy had the KBX pad and as soon as i put the KBX pad all my problems got solved .

The front cowl was replaced at SC and when they removed it was all in bits and pieces and they charged me Rs 150 for the spares .

Clean the spark plug and see the deposits after some days. I doubt if you will be getting that good mileage if your bike is running rich.

It has performed incredibly well. Constant mileage of 50kmpl. Trouble free ownership other than Service center guys screwing up the threads of crankcase by overtightening (replaced for free under warranty).

                    • As i have told it is the counter bearing. As you know behind the front sprocket there is an oil seal and the counter shaft comes out which is mounted with the front sprocket. If you pop out the oil seal of front sprocket, you can see the counter bearing. But unfortunately you cannot take out the bearing from outside and whole engine has to be opened. So when you open change the counter bearing.Another member who has sound in 3rd and 4th gear, he has also the same problem. Why it is causing the problem, because when the wheel is loaded the chain loads the front sprocket angularly towards the back. So the bearing is loaded. If the bearing is good then no sound, but if the bearing is faulty what happens is that it will push the counter gears on the main gear and thus will put enormous pressure on the main gear shaft. Why it happens in third gear?It happens in third gear first because:-First let me explain how gears are stacked- The counter gear is supported by the counter bearing near the front sprocket and the main gears are supported by main gear bearing through which the shaft passes and the clutch is fitted. The gears are arranged such that the first gear lies near the left casing and fifth gear lies near the center casing. So the counter shaft is supported at the left casing and the main shaft at the center casing. So when 1st,2nd gear are used then the counter shaft has support nearby and thus doesn't deflect much and thus no sound. When 4th and 5th gears are used then support is on main shaft near the middle casing and thus no sound.Since 3rd gear is in middle it deflects more and cause the sound. Slowly as the play increases it shifts to 4th and then 5th gear.Effects of not changing the counter gear bearing is that slowly all gears will wear out.And while changing gears always change in pairs i.e change the corresponding gear and counter gear. Suppose 3rd counter gear is worn. Then change the 3rd counter gear and 3rd gear.So for both of you when you open the engine change the following items when you open the engine:-1.Counter gear bearing2. Main gear bearing3. corresponding gears making noise- as a set as i have explained-change only the gears that is making noise and not all gearscheck if the counter shaft or main shaft is bend as change suitably.
                      @ Sibun

what will happen just changing the gear wheel that makes noise without changing the counter gear bearing and the main gear bearing in this case ???

Thanks for your input Sarbanoxley. Yeah I had seen the bike but didnt quite like it that much because of its after sale services (spare parts and all-which u had mentioned) and even the resale value.
And regarding riding at and above 90kmph does changing the front sprocket solve the issue altogether?
I may get a black colored Xtreme in a couple of days or so. So what do you suggest, is it a go or not?

Same noise will be back in no time. When you are replacing the gear after opening entire engine then why to take risk by not replacing the counter shaft bearing ?? As sibun has mentioned in his post, the bearing has caused the gears to wear.Without fixing the cause,it makes no sense in replacing the effected part.
No one would like to open the engine again to replace that bearing, would you ?

First of all Hi !! , I was i exactly the same state you are now few months back.. I was worried about my purchase since it was my first bike...I zeroed in for CBZ-X , I constantly visited this thread to know about its pros and cons ... So let me help you with this ...Pros : 1. Reliable and smooth engine 2. low vibrations3. Fuel efficiency 4. Power and Style5. Service networkCons :1. Weight ( 150kg is quite a load to carry )2. Paint quality is not that good3. Cost ( Pulsar 150 was 1800Rs less than CBZ X at time of my purchase )4. Tappet problem ( This can be avoided , but still most of us know whats its like )So i would definitely recommend CBZ , But do take care of run-in procedure , It ensures smooth and better performing engine in long run .You might want to take a look at Unicorn , It is more refined than CBZ and has higher fuel efficiency too ...Good luck with your purchase and do post some pics ..... :-)

Thanks RohIIT for the heads up. The bike is around Rs. 2.5k more than what Pulsar 150 is but then to me CBZ-X is preferable as pulsar is like too common on the roads. The tappet issue is something I am not fully aware of, I guess I should read the prev. posts for that and regarding the run-in period I better be cautious so that I get the optimum performance and life of the engine. Max 4k rpm for the first 1000 km's, is that all that's needed?
I've heard that the engine oil should be changed in the first 100 kms as the lil particles of the engine remain and they can cause damage to the engine, but recently my freind told me to add a 3M additive which solves that problem, please help me out here as I am not sure what exactly needs to be done. Unicorn's looks are lil old and the old school analog console was the turn off rest the bike's performance is really good . Pics should be coming real soon if it is a go
