Do you turn your mirrors towards inside in bumper-to-bumper traffic to avoid it getting hit?

I skidded and dropped my bike 2 days after the service since then i am facing this issue mileage issue right now my bike only delivers 40 kilometers for 1.39 liters of petrol. There is a drastic change in the bike's behavior and i never thought that the mileage would drop so much.I don't rev my bike a lot and maintain speeds between 50 kmph - 55 kmph that too not always due to high traffic. What might be the possible reasons for this issue?

For correct mileage do two full tanks to reserve and calculate the average of that. Simply filling 1.39 l or For Rs. 100 will not give the correct mileage. Don't rust your tank, fill adequate quantity of petrol and ride the bike. If you are getting40-45 that is best for your bike there is nothing wrong with it. It's not about how you maintain speed. It's about how do you start the first ride of the day. don't revv without engine getting warmed up, ride atleast 2 kms and then start opening the throttle. Also give short bursts of 6-7k rpms now and then. Don't over pamper your babe. Atleast try full top speed once in a week so that you can know the real condition of your babe. Always check the engine oil level atleast once in 100 kms and top it up if it is less.

Did you do the engine run-in according to the manual? what is your ODO? Have you ridden your bike under 4k rpm for first 500kms and then under 6k rpm from 500-1000 kms. Did you do the engine oil change and are you checking the engine oil level? I think you need to elaborate more before you can get any right answers.

        • Hi Guys

What would be the ideal RPM speed for long highway or touring cruises? I"m talking about fully stock conditioned bike and not the indonesian/chinese modded or our much reliable joelled babes. Some one here was talking about over pampering our babes.

By my experience I'm assuming that it must be between 5-6k rpm and full throttle short bursts once in a while.

          • Worst start for the day.

Today morning when I tried starting my bike tick-tick sound was coming whenever I pressed the start button.
I was familiar of this sound and knew that this was due to starter motor. Bend down to check the stater motor.

I was shocked to see that my Starter Motor was STOLEN
It is a neat job. The robber removed the wires and unscrewed all the nuts properly. I dont have the pics as of now as I was late for office. But I will upload the pics today evening.
Defenitely the person removing it knew about the motor and how to remove it. All the FZ's which were parked near mine are safe. I was the only one who suffered.
Currently I am thinking of getting a FIR logged in the evening. Checked with Kamla Yamaha and Imtiyaz said that new one costs 1200 Rs and no point in going for insurance.

Well qualified robbers. Two things can be done either create a netted coverup on both sides of then engine or install a pocket ip camera, I think the second on might be cheaper. Just kidding. It's strange anyways.

How much the robber might have got for selling that? Atleast 500 Rs.? I think Yamaha must mark serial numbers for important parts like carburettor, starter motor, rear shock etc etc. This stealing is not only happening by robbers outside but also there are robbers inside (SVC) which might not be stealing but equivalent to stealing which is called replacing.

              • SuperBike Tyres on FZ.

Hi Guys I know this has been discussed vividly all over the thread. I have a mechanic offering me a pair of Pirelli Diabola Super Corsa SC Tyres for 6k. Ofcourse they have been used once on the track. The mechanic himself owns fazer and has the same tyre on his bike . He claims the tyre is better in handling and grip and also mileage seems to increase by +5 kmpl. What you guys say shall I go for this set or get the regular Pirelli SD 140/70 ??

DIABLO SUPERCORSA SC , Motorcycle Tyres - PIRELLI INTERNATIONAL

Yes the tyres will have better grip and handling ... on track... but not in road conditions... look at the thread patten... you will understand... its good on racing track... and about mileage.... i dont think changing tyres can provide a mileage upgrade of 5 kms... go for the pirelli SD or dunlop tuffgrip.. perfect for indian road conditions...

go for DIABLO ROSSO II , Motorcycle Tyres - PIRELLI INTERNATIONAL
or MT 75 , Motorcycle Tyres - PIRELLI INTERNATIONAL
or ANGEL ST , Motorcycle Tyres - PIRELLI INTERNATIONAL

but i dont think you will find any of these other than SD...

Nice! Just wanted to know, have you received all the parts & where you guys are planning to assemble the new parts?
I would like to have a look & want to fill the modded engine.
                      Hi,

I have just ordered the parts from Joel RC. Joel will take time to process it.. anyways he has got me greedily confused over his list of goodies:

                      * 182cc Big Bore.
                      * 32mm Semi - Flat Racing Carburetor instead of 29mm as an option for better better fuel atomisation.
                      * Simota Air filter in two versions:
                      a) The normal one which fits inside the AIS box and is good for upto 29mm CV Carb.
                      b) The 50mm conical Air Filter for either 29mm/32mm Semi Flat Racing carb.
                      * Mild Lift Camshaft.
                      * Custom mappable CDI with 8 settings.
                      * Altered port geometry with other goodies.

Anyways once i have the parts delivered to me, you are more than welcome to come and see the build while it is taking place. I will allow test rides only and only after the proper run-in process is over and i do apologise for the stern rule. I want to ensure that my FZ-X breaks-in her engine- as per my riding style. Post run-in you are welcome to belt the daylights out of her with proper riding gear ofcourse.

Veteran riders like Luke have already posted the effects of not riding your bike like you are meant to do especially formation of gunk and dirt deposits inside your engine internals which may hamper the performance or even worse lead to engine seizures or piston rings getting damaged as an extreme result.

Every rider should at times give a proper thrashing session to their respective rides to get any kind of excess deposit forcefully out of the system.. its like doing a strong round of workout for the engine, keeps the engine clean and also free of gum deposition.

You can take her all the way close to the red line no problem as long as you don't keep her pinned to the red line for very very long distances, that will damage the engine. You need to alternately load the engine like keep her pinned on the red line for say 10-15 seconds and then leave the throttle and after 10 seconds again hit the red line.. that way you are modulating the load to the engine and not putting too much stress on the engine...

To get a better mileage and performance from the ride.. 75 - 80 and max 85 - 90 kmph band on the stock exhaust and stock engine is good enough... if you push too much expect mileage drop. If you really want to get good good mileage then 5-6000 rpm will be the limit. however beyond clocking certain no. of kms the riding experience becomes dreary and boring.. she is an absolute bliss on the corners..

Sad to hear that bro.. not something i would like to witness ever in my life!! I guess the place you are living in is more susceptible to fuel thefts and petty crimes like these.. i wonder do you park your bike outside? If you park it inside the residential compound would you mind spending extra few bucks and installing CCTV at your area.. on a serious ground a sign saying the place is monitored with CCTV cams keeps thieves at bay.

                      Cheers,

Will get it checked out at SVC ... In the crazy traffic of bangalore we always require to keep switching the engine on and off. Dont always change to neutral as the moment the lights turn green its just "boom and zoom"... So sometimes I have inadvertently tried switching on the engine without disengaging the clutch and it has tried to start...

You will get used to the mirrors being extended. Dont worry its difficult in the initial few days. Although maneuvering with these mirrors is difficult, they are fantastic in terms of the field of view provided... My friend who rode my bike praised them highly saying they were some of the best positioning of mirrors he had seen on a bike...

Guys I had minor spill and my handle bar is bent again, this is the 3rd time , I just changed it 3 months back. I am literally fed up with changing the bars, is there a better quality of handlebars available that doesnt compromise on the ride comfort. I heard about rizoma universal bars is good, anyone tried them on your FZs and where can I get one online?

No,the mirrors stay open, because those are supposed to be doing their jobs. Get used to riding with the mirrors open,it helps a lot.

                              • Hi, im from kolkata and own a Yamaha FZs, my 4th bike. I had a 220Fi earlier, also had Kawasaki wind 125, my 1st bike. I ride atleast 30% of my kilometers in Highway (Durgapur Express Way, from Kolkata till Asansol). I have been riding in this route for the last 14years. so i know everything about this road, traffic behaviour, people behaviour, even cattle behaviour..... and most importantly the wind Directions and riding behind a Volvo Bus and what wind disturbance it creats. Wrote all these to make u understand how well i know these roads, nothing else.
My question is, this FZs does something which i didnt expect it to do. I ride @ max speed always thats 110kmph(speedometer reading) with the wind 125, 135kmph with the Pulsar 220Fi (speedometer reading), and 122 with this FZs (speedometer reading), so im very much use to high speed riding, its downside etc.... This bike has a problem, Its about Wind Turbulence at High speed. When ur with the wind (wind and your riding direction are same), there is no problem atall, when its sideways wind (wind flowing from side, left to right or right to left), every bike has some problem, so no extra problem with this bike also. But once ur against the wind, it becomes a hell of a ride. Speed seem to fall too much, but thats okay.... sometime that does happen if its flowing too fast. But the bike also starts to Speed Wobble Speed wobble - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Its not too extreme, but u cant ride it @ 100+kmph, thats a peety.... right speed seem to be anywhere between 65-85. I have riden wind 125 in the same stretch of road @ more than 100kmph without getting too worried about Speed wobble, leave alone the Pulsar 220fi, Pulsar didnt had any of these problem what so ever. This bike iis preety tight everywhere, except this Speed wobbles that happens, 'only at high way".
I have checked my Tyre pressure as well as Tyre Condition, The Handle Bar etc.... every thing is nice and okay.... so no real problem form the parts of this bike.
Has anyone noted these things in FZs...?? You guys have ridden a lot of this bike and in various condition as well....... so some one should have noticed it... or its some problem with my bike...(which i dont think is).

I am some one who is more of a Average Kmph Rider, rather than a Top Speed Ride. Meaning I dont like my Top Speed to be very far off from my average Speed (for Highway rides). If I am plannning for a 90kmph average speed, then Top speed of 120-115 is alright.... if I am planning for a average speed of 75kmph, then I wont go over 90-100. My phylosopy of bike riding is ride as fast as u need to.... no point in 5min of glory, and 5 months in hospital. I have riden for more than 14yrs now, and everytime i get out with my bike, i atleast get 90-100kmph speed, everyday for the last 14 yrs.... u see, but never had a big accedent, only once i fell from my bike, and thats also because some person in a bicycle was drunk..!! All in all, my experience with this Yamaha, my first Yamaha... is preety good. Planning to take it for a long ride .... from kolkata to Darjeeling sikkim Kolkata. if it does well in this, its time for a south india trip with this bike.

Please guys tell me from your experience, whether u had speed wobbles in your bike or not....!!!!
Thanks a Lot for reading my Motorcycle dairy....!!!! bye.
