as mentioned earlier. Crash Guard is only provided by the dealer. not the company. in some cases they come at a cost. where as in some other cases you will need to tell the dealer that you want it partof the package. but i doubt it. since the premium on this bie is quite high and the FZ is selling like hot cakes.

Yamaha dealer's ahoy. you will be spending some 400 - 500 in select cities.

          • is crash guard same as engine guard you fit below the engine to protect from stones etc? I am planning on getting one soon... apart from a new horn.

            • YVAditya,

The crash guard and engine guard are completely different.

The crash guard is basically a steel pipe or a pipe bent in a particular fashion that can be fitted to your frame's downtube. This will protect your legs, your bike's tank and other fittings in the event of a crash by preventing your bike falling on it's side.

The engine guard/sump guard is usually a metal plate bolted below your bike's engine mainly to protect the oil sump/crankcase bottom. This will prevent rocks and other projections like speedbreakers, etc from hitting your engine's bottom.

              • then I think getting an engine guard is the priority... the ground clearance is too low. And by the way, what are the optimal speeds for gear shifts?
Should I change by speed or by the RPM meter?

the plastic version is know as a sub cowling.you can find this on a stock Gladiator Type SS or RS or whatever S. and the apache 160

i dont know if you can fit the galdiator cowling on a FZ. that will look pretty interesting.

RPM : i would have suggested to go by the sound. but if you are living in a city like Mumbai then there is no point. go by the RPM. Shit aound 4000 RPM is ideal.

                    • Shift with sound, I see. I am changing when it touches 4k rpm.
My favourite hobby these days is to go around corners! Yeah, its sheer pleasure to turn this bike without having to brake/shift gears! Its rock solid! That low riding position and fat tyres are really working.
Mileage is about 40Kmpl. Is the Speed/Power petrol better than ordinary one? I am using plain for now...
I seem to have many questions! Anyway, thanks a lot guys!

                      • mine is a flaming orange... I dont think any other "sub cowling" would match it... I will get a plain metal engine/sump guard tomorrow. Along with replacing the awful horn;

                        • Performance upgrades for FZ16.

Hi guys i bought ma FZ on 23 Oct just 2 days prior to diwali. So i was probably de first to own a Fz in Thane. Its just running gr8. The handling is just amazing, braking is equally good, n the torque some how is endless now all it needs is a little bit of more topend power. Now recently i have heard that Yamaha is coming up with some performance upgrades for the R15. Now i can understand that de r15 is a focused machine so it needed de lethal arsenal of such goodies but Y not de Fz, de Fz is no slouch in its own field. In fact if given such upgrades it may perform as good as if not better than de R15. So hav u guyz heard of ne of such rumors. I m also putting up a poll on bhalf of all de FZ owners in India to see de response. I hope u'il respond positively.

I wanted to ask the same question for some time now, when do you change the gears. It seems like if I change at 4K RPM, then in 5th gear I am only at 50-55KMPH. Avg Speed I prefer to ride is more on 70s side.

And yeah Mileage, Before 1st service I was getting 42-45 KMPL. After 1st service it is around 35 KMPL!! Any ideas ??

And one more thing, for the FZ owners, the service manual says that the bike is supposed to polished and given in all free services. Do they actually polish it?? Orion in Bangalore does not. Any idea about Bangalore Wheels??

Well even I am experiencing the same, the mileage has actually reduced. Before service it was about 45, now its 40 i think.. Dn know where the problem is...

                                Any 1, any idea?
