The grades are the viscosity indicator measure operating at 0 and 100 degrees. Inside the engine, the temps are going to be on the higher side obv, so the grade that comes after the W is what matters. More viscosity than what is recommended would lead to more friction between cylinder wall - resulting in lesser power coz of the more sluggish piston action. It is always recommended to keep the 100 degree viscosity grade the same as what is assigned to the machine.

Also, the correct time to change the engine oil would also depend on how the machine is being used. smooth stress-free operation most of the time will get you more kms on the same refill.

    • Guys, please help me with the below queries:

      1. When the fuel indicator starts blinking (with 1 block left), do you have to turn the fuel knob to "reserve", or does the bike keep running with the knob at "on"?

      2. How do you use the choke?
Pull the choke lever, start the bike, let the engine warm up, then turn off the choke. Is this the right way?

      3. I see that the rear sprocket (and the rear tyre) has a slight wobble. SVC guys says that it behavior is normal in the FZ series. What is your opinion?

Keep it in ON as long as there is petrol in tank. When it starts jerking twist it to Reserve and turn back ON when you refuel.

It's the right way, but if u make it a habit, then bike too make it
It will start without choke like charm. Idling in neutral without choke seems better.

It's normal, but can be finetuned rather than corrected, but needs extreme patience.

          • Well, I felt that few things are not normal in my bike, especially the roughness of the engine. After 4000RPM it does not feel smooth at all, but when I took the bike to the service center they said everything is normal . I mean for any problems you mention, they will start the bike, rev. the engine and say "Saar, everything is perfect".

For a company like Yamaha, the after sales service provided is not up to the mark at all.

I am in touch with Yamaha on this, lets see how it goes.

            • i too have the same problem. my bike was smooth in higher rpms when it was new.after 1 month(900 km) i didnt ride it for 2 weeks. after that my bike feels hard and rough in higher speeds and feels as if the engine needs some lubricating(just using a figure of speech).service centre guys say its ok.my bike is now 4 months old(2300km). I followed all precautions during run-in period as given in the manual i.e. less than 4500 rpm during 1st 500km and less than 6k during next 500. I changed my oil at Ist service(900km) yamalube Rs 220 one,i dont know the grade. please help...

if your feeling the roughness after you have NOT ridden the bike for long then its probably because of carbon deposit...its will disappear after few days.

the fz-16 is already dc... and for other bikes as long as the current flow remains the same or lower than that from ac then the battery should be fine...

                    • a Fuel indicator problem.. guys what do i do?

my yamaha FZs has clocked only 2200km and i notice a fuel indicator problem.... the fuel indicator is always blinking even when the tank is about 6 litres full... according to the manual it blinks only when its running really low on fuel or on reserve... i tried emptying the tank and refueling but it didn't help... Its kinda disturbing i never know if i have fuel until it runs on reserve & the past few days i have to always open the tank cap and check if theres fuel... Is there anyway this can be fixed... Please help....
                      thanks

the problem might be with the sensor....
the console has a warranty for 2 years.... take the bike to the svc and tell the person the problem if he is not able to do anything tell them to replace the unit.....

                            • yes the problem is probably with sensor even i face the problem often
                              try this
there are two wires cliped underside the right side of tank cover connecting to the fuel sensor inside the tank try pressing the clipped joint and am sure it will get rid of your problem!
