4th Service Report
Hi All,
here goes the report for 4th Service for me FZ -16
Kms done on the Odometer: 8219 kms
Expenses:
1) Oil Change: Motul 20 X 40 W Mineral oil = Rs. 235/-
2) Oil Filter Change: Rs. 65/-
The SVC, in mumbai have increased the rates of oil by Rs. 11/-
Any problems:
1) The bike was feeling low on power just two 2 -3 days before today's servicing, probably because of the tons of dust accumulated in the Air Filter and also she needed a desperate oil change. The pictures below will give you guys an idea of what i am talking about.
2) There was quite a bit of chain slack. Got that adjusted.
3) Clutch replay was bit of a problem... the clutch sometimes tended to get stuck in the middle and then the bike would suddenly choke and the engine would die completely. Simple solution, got the clutch cable oiled in the service and now everything is good as new.
To my surprise, the brakes are in a quite good condition and will last for a good 12- 14000 kms atleast (both front and rear). The rear brake just needed a bit of adjusting.
I have stopped getting the chain lubed at the SVC as i now do it myself. I did observe that a lot of bikes which came for servicing, all the chains of FZ and FAZERS were completely dry!! No one tends to maintain their bike's chain!
Me bike's mileage figures have also remained consistent throughout the 8000+kms of mix riding and insane thrashing: 36-39 kmpl (extreme thrashing) and 40 - 47 kmpl when being nice and slow or splendor mode!!
Just a personal opinion; as per my conversation with the head mechanic of Kamla Yamaha, The so called 2yrs warranty/30, 000 kms on the engine is just a marketing gimmic/dud or whatever you may call it!!
They will not provide any free replacements on the consumables like piston, crankshaft or any moving parts should anything go wrong during the warranty period. The only thing they would cover and quickly take care of is the engine block or the head. Although, i may be completely wrong... but after listening to quite a lot of stories, i am convinced about the same above.
The clutch can also take, quite a lot of good abuse till 25-30,000 kms...
I am going ahead with full scale Street spec mods from Joel, Race Concepts stage wise in the next 3 - 4 months and by that time my final two free services will also be over. I want explore the full capabilities of my FZ and i guess only the Doktor can do something about it...
After the service, she is purring with happiness and the engine vibes have also gone down completely... The gear shifts are super slick!!Last edited by shv18; 03-21-2011, 03:23 PM.A quote by a toilet, " use me well, keep me clean, i would never tell anybody whatever i have seen.." :P

i doubt that... check with the svc guys... they want to scare you and stuff... but yes beyond a certain point the warranty is void.. just try and maintain the service record... if you are good to your bike she will give the same in return... my ownership report so far speaks for itselfA quote by a toilet, " use me well, keep me clean, i would never tell anybody whatever i have seen.." :P

You know anyone at Kamala Yamaha SVC??
Befriend with ***** (PM me for his name) there, he is undoubtedly a very nice mechanic there & ask him to service your bike.
My FZ is 15k old now & all free services expired but I no more used my paid service with Kamala yamaha. My bike as well as my friend's FZ was maintained amazingly by him & he sorted out each of our small issues with enough care.

Speedometer change
Hey Guys
Just got a call from the Yamaha SVC. They said that they are changing meters for the 2008-2009 model FZs, free of cost. When asked why????.....they were like surprised and tried to explain that it is free of cost. On insisting them to let me know the reason for change....they simply said that the new meter is better.
I am wondering what new technology have they incorporated in the new meter. My current meter works just fine and i dont find the need to chage it.
Can someone please put some light on this issue.
Keep riding!!!!
James

A lot of companies like, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha do a recall of their vehicles to replace possible defects in the vehicle which might have happened during assembling and manufacturing of the vehicle. To avoid negative impact or dent on their name..i guess, yamaha simply makes it sound like a free replacement...
anyways if they have called you for this.. it means that your speedo console may be in the batch of motorcycles which Yamaha has identified to have possible faulty ones.. so go ahead and make the change.. you are not paying for it..

thank you
If you wish you can go and kick his bum.... under no circumstances can he charge you 700 bucks for free service.. a) insist on a bill and ask him the break up of how can he charge 700... normally labour charges are for 300 bucks... which HE CANNOT CHARGE under a free service..
hope this clears your query

Get a nice can of aftermarket chain lube for 300-500 (I have motul worth Rs 450) & it lasts easily for over 5-6 applications.
Did he just remove the nail & fixed the puncture too ?? I doubt Yamaha SVC fix tyre punctures
Thanks.. Point duly noted bro.. & due changes made to the postOriginally posted by xionite View Post^^
if someone at the SVC reads this post...
ur mechanic buddy could land up in trouble.

Matter of fact they do fix punctures on the tubeless tyre .Originally posted by mitz View PostDid he just remove the nail & fixed the puncture too ?? I doubt Yamaha SVC fix tyre punctures
the service charges depend on where you giv the bike for service , I paid 350 bucks as service charge , the rest were all consumables ... Unless anything needs to be changed , why you worrying about it ? just watch out for any unnecessary changes the SVC might try to spring on you .Originally posted by cscsarkar331 View Postany body??pls helpPeople ask me , why are you cribbing about the BHP ? to them I say "MORE is never ENOUGH" xbhp.com
