the service charges depend on where you giv the bike for service , I paid 350 bucks as service charge , the rest were all consumables ... Unless anything needs to be changed , why you worrying about it ? just watch out for any unnecessary changes the SVC might try to spring on you .
due to our great road my front tire is a bit bendalong with disc,so it is creating sound & the engine feels strained after 4500rpm also the sound changed as like more grunty throat.so I am worried bcoz earlier the bike never sounded loke that..what could be the problem??Also I asked the svc guys about the paid srvc, they told it will be more than 750..so am worried..

are you due an oil change as well . if so then , they might have calculated as 350 for service , 220 for oil and 180 for chain lube ...

My first service was approximately 300 - 350 something. Out of which 100 Rs was just for chain lube

And to be honest..i dont even think they applied the chain lube..because when i checked it later..its was kinda dry..no sign of any oily layer..exactly the way it was before..

I did bring the issue up with the main head at SVC ( Mumbai )..he gave me some explanation about the viscosity..etc etc. Since im relatively new to biking i gave him the benefit of doubt.

However for my 2nd & 3rd service i only insisted on getting the oil changed.
Though he recommended i get my chain lubed and some other things which i do not recall.

And yes, try and get the oil changed in front of you ( if you use the bike less...in my case the old oil was still transparent & clean )...dont leave the bike from 10 am to 4 pm..its simply stupid..the reason they keep it for so long is because there is a long queue to wash the bikes !..(As told to me by the head )

Get an oil change, filter change.. and your off in 20-30 mins !..

P.S. Im not implying that the guys over at the SVC are dishonest !..but a little doubt always creep's in my mind..

Get a nice can of aftermarket chain lube for 300-500 (I have motul worth Rs 450) & it lasts easily for over 5-6 applications.

Did he just remove the nail & fixed the puncture too ?? I doubt Yamaha SVC fix tyre punctures

Thanks.. Point duly noted bro.. & due changes made to the post

Baah, i was under the impression that he had put the normal mineral oil> Hence 700 bucks sounded exorbitant. i take my words back now... But still semi, synth so early.. i honestly don't see the point.

              Cheers

Well, the SVC manager where i managed my FZ was strict about not letting any FZ below 5 k kms on ODO run with semi syntheti oil.. Hence I sticked to mineral oil only & its not bad actually.. So please ensure the use of semi synthetic oil so early as it may affect the engine someway.

Just a suggestion from me, drain off this oil completely & preserve in some air tight container while get yourself mineral oil for atleast 2-3 k kms in your bike & then switch back to this current oil after that.

PS: Yes the oil will no doubt last more then double that you would normally expect.

hmmmm so should i jut go back and tell him to put mineral and give me the semisynthetic ?
or because he put it without asking me scold him and tell him to put synthetic and give me back the remaining amount?

                  • Guys ... putting in semi-synth or full synth at the beginning is not advised only because you need little more friction at the beginning to "break-in" the engine ... so these oils with better lubrication won't give you that friction ... but there is no need to remove the oil and go back to mineral oil ... just run with the current oil for the reco'ed interval and then change ...

I changed to full synth at 5K kms ... thus far no mileage or engine trouble **touchwood** ... approaching 12K now ...

Better lubrication in synthetic oil ?!?...are you sure ?..i thought its almost equivalent to ordinary one !...in that case your bike must be super smooth..less vibrations..and better fuel economy...right ?

precisely , once it's all well settled , at the beginning due to the new machinery a bit of friction is necessary to allow all parts to settle in .

                              • Accident details

                                Guys,

Had an accident this morning. I was crossing the road on my Fazer and was hit by Maruti Omni. There were few vehicles with me who were also crossing the road and I was parallel to an Auto Rickshaw. The auto rickshaw crossed the road in a second and I was hit by Omni. I think neither us of were at fault. After the crash, I fell down. Whenever a Fazer falls, the first thing that hits the ground is the left mirror. It got cracked. My legs and the left side of the fairing was saved by the crash/leg guard. The part of the fairing which was hit by the Omni beared some scratches and the fiber dome cracked. The handle surprisingly came out unscathed, in totally perfect shape. Fortunately, nothing happened to me, not even a single scratch. My leg was under the bike and it got strained a bit and was paining for a while, but that's it. After the accident, the bike was making some weird noise; not exactly screeching noise but noise which comes when 2 metal parts are rubbed together (ghis ghis) sound. I went to the showroom to enquire about insurance and they asked me to take the bike to the service center. I went to the service center and that guy quoted about 7k of reparing charges. He told that glass, fiber body parts and plastic parts have only 50% insurance cover. He said that insurance company will pay about 3.5k after 2 weeks. I will handover the bike today and it is expected to be back on Saturday or Monday.

                                I've attached some pics.
