from wat i have noticed wit the big bore, if it is right to say, is the increase in torque. took the ghats in coorg and comin out of corners the bike shoots. nothin like the stock bike. i always felt the fz (stock) has a good low & mid range. after the big block the stock feels so damn sluggish.

This is wat Joel mailed me - "Gear the bike a bit taller if you wish and it will be a proper tourer. You can clock a good 130kph easily with a taller gearing"
    does he mean the 15T?

Overgearing the bike with a 15T sprocket will lose the initial acceleration and punch it will increase the top end
you told you want the low end torque and acceleration ?
If you want more initial acceleration going for the 15T will do no good
for more acceleration use rear sprocket, 42 teeth from Yamaha YZF R15

              • guys, my starter motor has gone kaput. its cranking up but its not enough to start the engine. the sound is very feeble too. other electricals have been working fine. the bike is only about 2k kms old. what could be the problem?

dont worry just get your battery checked.... most probably its the battery that has drained out.....

take the bike to svc blast them if they do not recharge the battery for free...

if it happens again tell them to check the electricals for any short circuits or unwanted grounded wire or may be something as small as a cut in the wire.....

Dont worry man as kinshuk.arya said its just the battery gone bad
did you switch ON the headlamp without the engine ON or cranked it continuously this will cause easy drain of the battery or some short circuit will be the cause take it to SVC by push starting it

Take some oil on your finger tip by the dipstick and check it...

If it feels a LOT grainy then its time to change your oil asap..
else you can further the changing interval......

Also does the bike feel rough or strained or anything different from normal??

One reason for your oil to turn black soon maybe the residue in the oil filter at the time of changing oil....so thats wont be a case to change oil so soon....

and i am saying this could be ONE of the reason...other could have been(and i highly doubt it) your AGIP was not stored properly or could have been tampered.....

                      do check and tell us
                      cheers.....

I checked it again and didn't find any grain in it , it was smooth ...

But here is my dilemma ... when I checked the oil last time , the level was at the minimum mark . Now this happened last time as well but when i drained it , it filled the bottle completely , upto the mark with which the new oil came with . Now the same thing is happening again . So I want to know , that when measuring the level , should we turn the dipstick in to measure it ? or just place it without turning it in ?

                          No don't turn it in
You have to remove the dipstick, clean it and place it back WITHOUT turning it at all.

Thats what I did ... And it just about hits the minimum level mark on the dipstick ... so this adds to my dilemma , as the last time it had reached this level i changed it and it still filled up the entire bottle ...

now here's another finding ... the AGIP FS that was put in at 5k kms at the SVC lasted 5K kms ... the one I bought and put in at 10K was graded 5w40 and also lasted me about 4k kms ... now the one that I put in at 14K is graded 20w50 and going by the condition and level , it has lasted just about 2k kms ... It is also AGIP FS ... attaching a Pic of the bottle's ... so what do i do guys ?

the one on the right is the oil i put in at 10K ... it reads special synthetic ... and is graded 5w40 , the one on the left is the one i poured in at 14k is fully synthetic and is graded 20w50 ...

When you had put the new oil before 2k kms did you change the oil filter and did you check the oil when the engine was warm or on a cold engine ?
engine oil should be checked after riding the bike and then stopping it wait for 10 min for oil to settle and then take the dipstick out and clean it the insert the dipstick without turning it and check the level

No didn't change the oil filter ... acc to the service manual , the oil filter needs to be changed at 10K intervals only ... yeah I did check on a warm engine and allowed it time to settle and everything , It's the same method I have always used ... Just this time the grade of oil and the interval is kind of confusing me ...
