Thanks Rohan.Originally posted by rohan_5013 View PostWell..I'll share my experience though it would not be very helpful
First difference you notice is the power...I actually got used to it and felt it was like a normal fz/fazer but I rode a friend's fz day before yesterday and it felt SOO slow
..and I have not got the cylinder headwork like others here have..dont know what it does..just the big bore. The stock fz really felt slow compared to my big-bored one.
Mileage varies between 36-40 and I once got 46 but that was when I was sitting as pillion..my friend is very patient
I rip the daylights out of the bike.Smoothness same as stock..
Something confuses me: what do you mean by :"cylinder head work"? Is that a different camshaft only (which I understand Jole is, or about to, going to market, or do you know about other works: enlarged conduits, larger valves..??? I am wondering too about having a bigger carb, as Joel proposes, without having done this kind of modifications to the head?
In another post, someone mentions about simply changing the stock paper air filter element by a piece of foam. This could improve the air inlet, but also (if foam cells are too large) allow the engine to "inhale" a lot of dust.....and believe me: when it does not rain, it is very dusty here! Some others seem to favot the KN air filter. This one too seems hazardous for the engine: able to swallow water much more easily than with the high location of the stock filter position with it' intake under the seat and so small that, there again, it might be very inefficient as far as air filtration is concerned. If one want to maintain the quality of the air filtration, he has to keep the same "mesh" size in the air filter element so that is keeps blocking small particles, but enlarge the filtration area. Seems it's pretty high on the FZ16 already...?
I am ready to go for some expense on this bike (costs soooo much already with the taxes we have here!) in order to improve the engine's power which, to be honest, is rather poor when one thinks of the performance of the frame/ suspension in road holding, but not too much at the cost of the engine's reliability and lifespan.
This lifespan however seems....short!... when reading some of the last posts: ..."engine becomes harsh while the bike is 17k/km old only....
"

I think he shaves the cylinder head to improve volumetric efficiency..I read it on his siteOriginally posted by Lucky Luke View PostThanks Rohan.

And mileage has dropped all of a sudden..but I am riding without thinking about mileage at all..got 31 last time and 28 this time
..going to get the bike serviced soon..I think my chain needs to be tightened..anything else that I should get checked in service??The bike is also running slightly rich..have to check that too..dissapointed..was getting used to 40kmpl

FZ Engine becoming harsh after jus 17k km only.....m hearing such a thing for the 1st time.....i can speak only on the experince i have but with 30000 km on my clock the bike still is super smooth till date and i dont give it to a Yamaha Service center...do all of it on my own....whomsoever had such a thing most definitely doesn't have the word Maintenance in the dictionary.Originally posted by Lucky Luke View PostThanks Rohan.

I use a Foam type filter....n its a Piper-cross Filter....retrofitted to the stock filter of FZ.

Well That bike is mine ... It has become harsh at 17.3K on the ODO and if you think I do NOT know what maintenance is , then God bless you !Originally posted by iceman331 View PostFZ Engine becoming harsh after jus 17k km only........

Yes my bike's engine is harsh ... There could be a variety of reasons for it , I don't intend to leave it like that either and I intend on getting it fixed .People ask me , why are you cribbing about the BHP ? to them I say "MORE is never ENOUGH" xbhp.com

Will detail by Monday but for now i can say that the sound with the DB Killer is good. The killer does its job.2nd gear at 2.5k rpm its almost mute.So its possible to evade cops when needed.
I dint find much improvement at the bottom but beyond 6.5k rpm its much more rev friendly and picks up well. All this is with the DB-K.haven't tried without yet.
Overall i feel its worth it!
will detail a review by Monday.
Note-the exhaust travels thorough under the bike rather than through the sides like in the P220.
@nanad
17K?hmm...mine's pretty much perfect (*touchwood) after 18k.Smooth as it can get.Smoke rubber, not tobacco.

The current one too goes under the bike right ? So that rectangular box like thing on the stock pipe has been done away with ... what is that exactly ? And is the clearance affected or remains the same ?Originally posted by RanjithMN View Post

Well the harshness maybe due to the fact that I did the ooty return leg on low oil level ( which I checked after returning ) ...

Yep the stock too goes under the bike.P220' ffe goes through the side that is how i was trying to mount it tooOriginally posted by nand15 View PostThe current one too goes under the bike right ? ,only then realized.!The "box" is the cat-con-and yeah thats gone too.Clearance remains same.
Hmm..yeah that could be the reason.anyway can you describe this harshness?
Yep the length is pretty much the same.Remember,FZ's stock was smaller in length compared to other bikes.Originally posted by N-o-v-i-c-e View PostLooker or not...its appearing goodd on your bike

It's just not the same smooth engine that it was before , I mean it sounds as if it's struggling ... no vibes or anything , just a rough sound . Also noticed today that it's producing a very slight jerk ( kind of the one you get on old cars when you change gears ... but way milder than that ) I'm thinking chain is busted .Originally posted by RanjithMN View PostYep the stock too goes under the bike.P220' ffe goes through the side that is how i was trying to mount it too

Check whether the scv guys or your mechanic have down-jetted the carb. In the previous service I happened to have the same problem, like engine heating up, very harsh sound especially after 5000rpm, and also vibrations and that jerky feel like it is going to go into reserve at high speeds. Took it to my local mechanic, and he immediately said that it was down-jetted/ air-fuel mixture lean. When I asked the svc guys why they did it, they were saying they do it all the time to improve mileage and it is called "mileage-tuning". But I got it fixed with my mechanic and told the svc people never to do that again. Now it is normal again and smooth as it was when new.Originally posted by nand15 View PostWell That bike is mine ...
