I had this problem after the second service as well, believe it or not but the Yamaha Service guyz took care of it without replacing anything in 3rd service, I was so happy I dint even care to ask what was wrong.. my suggestion consult a good mechanic or if you have a known and trustworthy engineer at svc.. talk to him..

        • Ownership experience-FZ16---FZ18(tuned by Race concepts)

          Hey guys,
This is one of my first few posts here, though I have been following this thread for quite some time.
When I saw FZ for the first time,I was mighty impressed and booked it without even bothering to look at its performance,or take a look at any other 150cc bikes.I was just in love with the bike.In the 1st year of ownership,I experienced the Powerful Mid range torque of the bike, but was really disappointed about the top-end.Overall I felt that the bike needed more performance for its aggressive looks. So after I completed 1 year of ownership,I was looking for some performance upgrades.I had to go either for the Yamaha kits(very expensive and illegal for street use) or try my luck by putting a k&n filter and try to get it re jetted. Then I learnt of Joel and that he was offering performance upgrades without sacrificing the Fuel efficiency.Dint wait much longer, went to race concepts to upgrade my bike.

TRANSFORMATION OF MY FZ-16 to FZ-18
Once the re boring and Head-work was done,My bike became a monster!.Already powerful mid-range got even better, and hitting 100kmph on highway was a breeze!.Till around 600kms after the rebore, the bikes topspeed remained almost the same-I could hit 111 and it refused to go further. But after 1000 kms on the odo,the bike became super smooth, and I could hit a topspeed of 130kmph(fully crouched)!.
I have also got the Simota filters installed by Joel-Increased lowend torque and a grunty exhaust note!
After all these upgrades I am getting a healthy FE of around 35 under hard ripping(used to get 28 on the stock).Splendor mode I get around 50!
NOW I have got both aggressive looks and aggressive performance!
          Thanks JOEL!

          • Got Barricade serviced at SVC after a long time 11.3k km/8 months. Most expense service till date, but bike back to butter smooth or better than that (best ever). Switched to Yamalube SS 15W50. Total bill 1981 INR.

            Split up:
            Yamalube 4T 15W50 - 470
            Fork Oil - 330 (bill says 175 mLx6)
            Oil Seal - 314
            Air Filter - 210
            Chain Puller - 60
            Air Filter Box screw x2 - 6
Clutch Cable - 89 (I had spare one at home )
            Total - 1479

            Labor
            Paid Service + Wash - 375
Fork Oil + Oil Seal Replacement - 180
            Tax 10.30% - 47

            Total - 1981

Apart from this changed spark plug, 200 bucks.

Promised to deliver bike by 3:30 PM, but got call 12-12:30 that bike is ready Muthoot Yamaha. Wash was not up to mark this time. Horn connection was cut when replacing the clutch cable. That was the only issue so far with them

Cylinder head work??? Last news I had from Joel (two weeks ago) were that they were not ready for the head works yet!

Please, bros: can you update me on what Joel is doing/ not doing? I understand he got himslef over-booked (replies to about one question on ten!), and seems to be systematically late. OK, I am ready to wait (not too long!), but really want to know what can be done and what can't before I decide between the obvious expert that is Joel Joseph and some "glorified mechanics", as he calls them, but who reply to (nearly) all questions and can do instant delivery!

                  Thanks for sharing the info.

Joel does the head-work for the fz. got mine done in Aug and now 2400 odd kms old along with the big bore.
best is to call him. having met him i completely agree what digislayer has to say.

Yes I believe it is the cylinder headwork or Porting as it is called. It is best that you send him an Email,to which he promptly replies.

                        Thanks Duoscribe and Vijeth.

I am already in contact via E-mail with Joel. Actually, his last mail only dates from one week only (and not two as I was saying earlier), so I really cannot say anything. However, I just think he got his head sunk into a pile of work at the moment!

In last mail, I asked him if he would consider a 200cc. (1mm. more radius than the 180cc.). Have any of you asked him such thing? That this bike really needs more "muscle", and 1/3 more: THAT would give it some!

                          Hehehe,

bro i guess our wish list will never end.. if i am not wrong Joel does take up special projects where he may consider 200cc big bore kit and porting and other mods to compliment the set up for the same.

Anyways nice to hear the results posted by Vijeth. I guess with 15 T sprocketing we can expect a better top end without losing too much on the lower end grunt thanks to the additional power.

i am literally dying to get the mods done but due to hectic shedules of shooting since, the last 6 months has finally taken a toll on my health.. down with typhoid.. all my plans for ride to blore has been delayed further .

I think the 180cc bore is more than enough. What you need is a free flow exhaust which gets the most out of the engine. If you are still not satisfied you can ask Joel for the racing carb!.Anyways he told me he will be making available more upgrades(something about reworked cams).!

That's what I can't agree upon: I really hate those noisy bikes (they DO be noisy, even with also called db killer!), I want mine to remain (correctly...) silent...at the cost of a couple of hp, perhaps.

Originally posted by vijeth v View Post

Yes: I will go for a bigger carb too, plus head porting (bigger valves), redesigned exhaust (maybe keeping the also called "midship muffler"), but keeping anyway the exact aspect of the stock exhaust aft muffler, and it's heat shield. Programmable CDI of course, and.....YES: I have decided to go for 200cc.!
I will keep the stock camshaft for the moment: very difficult to have a faster/ higher lift and not have the power requiring to go past the redline!!! Will wait for what Joel produces there, sure! He is effectively working on that, I confirm.

Will tell you what it sounds and feels like, hoping the damned thing will not blow between my legs!! Although "senior", I'm a HOT rider!
