I'm not really sure about this , Just a theory , but maybe the bike is not pulling above 108kmph is because it's running too lean ? ( as most aftermarket filters tend to do this ) so if he adjusts the A/F ratio to make it richer it might just be alright ...

      Bad Idea.

his bike now refuses to pull over 108km/hr. is there any way to fix it?
Upjetting the carburetor will solve this problem also expect a loss in mileage with upjetting.

or is his engine badly damaged already(he is a fast rider)?
      No.

      can he upjet now?
      Yes.

if yes, then to which size because mechanics around here have no clue about it. what jet sizes does joel recommend after his simota filter replacement?
No idea about the Stock jet size, normally 10 to 15 units + stock jet i guess.
ie if the stock is 100,then the jet for K&n will be 110 or 115.

Yes,its because he is running lean.

Thats NO,Adjusting AFR wont work in this case.He has to get the carb upjetted with optimum size jets.ie change the jets with bigger ones.

Hmmm... Theory busted ... Better option , revert to stock .

            • Does the bike miss beats at 108Kmph??? If it's missing beats then the AFR being lean has a play in it, else if its just the brick wall effect, then something else's to be blamed.

Normally they're changed when the bike fails to reach previous speeds in the same RPM. etc, Mine reaches [email protected] if it reaches [email protected] then its time for a clutch & tranny overhaul.

                      Hey Bro,

As per my earlier conversation with the head mechanic at yamaha workshop, the life of a clutch plate with moderate riding (insane thrashing plus city riding) is around 25-30,000 kms. The usual signs of clutch going kaput are:

                      1) One may notice FZ's bottom end is lacking.
                      2) The clutch Doesn't engage until the lever is almost all the way out.
                      3) A burning smell coming from the engine.
                      4) Hard to find neutral.
                      5) Clutch slipping. This is a technique i remember reading somewhere: Get your bike going in a higher gear, 3rd or 4th, pull the clutch lever in, rev the engine, release the clutch lever quickly. The clutch should engage quickly, if it slips momentarily before completely engaging, it is a sure shot sign that clutch plates are getting weak.

Others are free to add anything above which i may have left out.

Replacing the clutch plates is not that expensive around 600-700 bucks if i remember correctly. Since your FZ has hit 31k.. here is the previous post you may look into as posted earlier by me and Lucky Luke: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post724070 . Please note that the prices mentioned in the post are just approximates. The actual parts prices may be cheaper or more.

                      Cheers

I have been busy lately & hence less riding.. Another reason for less rides in one problem that is bothering me like hell. My Lord of the streets just doesn't seem to be deserving the tiltle anymore.. In simple terms, i'm having a whole lot of 'HANDLING' issues with my FZ.

                        1) Changed cone set - (initially the mech said looseness in handlebar is due to the fresh grease in cone set & it shall settle to normal in few 100 kms but no difference even after a 1000 kms since cone set change)

                        2) Tightening of the main handlebar screw by SVC guys themselves (feels as good as new for few kms & then same loose handling again )

                        3) Tried leaving handlebar of my bike while in motion & it goes absolute straight so no issues there..

Any suggestions to get handling back to the original setup ??
Hey good to see you back on thread

I am not too sure if this is a proper troubleshooting from my end but more or less i feel somehow either the cone set installation is not done properly or the replacement one is faulty. Have you checked your rear shocks if they are ok?

OT R165 & FZ Parts: A friend of mine is going to blore this weekend to get his 2nd hand R15 completely souped up by Joel, Race Concepts. His bike is not exactly in the best condition as the previous owner has not maintained it properly. However, both me and him have had a long chat with Joel Anna and Joel has assured that his team will take care of all the problems and also post upgrades, the new R165 will be generating 28-29 bhp on the rear wheel and is indeed a ninja killer.

I have also requested my friend to click the pics of whole process of dismantling to installation of all the upgrades in his R15 plus pics of the new parts of FZ including the prototype programmable CDI. Shall keep you all posted.

                        Cheers

Upjetting the carburetor will solve this problem also expect a loss in mileage with upjetting.

                            No.

                            Yes.

Thanks man. he is in love with the sound. the bike also feels a lot more free-revving. changing to stock is a no-go. And about the jets. i read somewhere that there are two jets (main and pilot) which have to be upgraded, which just complicates things further. so i guess 110 or 115 it is. Mileage is a no-brainer now. throttle-satisfaction is everything! anyway, how much of a hit should we expect after changing the jet??

Trust me the exhaust does work .. mine is hitting 106 in no time!! Yesterday just as a test i had filled the rear to 35 psi and front 28... the way she reached the top end was lightning fast!! BTW i did all that with the DB killer on.. my stupid Allen key broke.. shitty quality.. so haven't been able to take the DB killer off and me being lazy is adding it all up to it!!

regarding custom CDI you better ask the guru himself...his race version R15 produce 31 bhp if i remember correctly BTW with the custom ECU it hits 12,000 rpm!!

Can the fz's head take that many revs?? It only has two valves. not made for hard revving. Plus, streetbikes are meant to ride on the torque curve right?? everything said and done, who wouldn't want a high revving fz! Go Joel!!
