    "BIKING"...
is a religion that i follow . a sheer passion ,an enthusiasm about riding anything that runs on two wheels , be it an old respectable Mopet or be it d monstrous yamaha R6.. before i tell all d biker folks my story , a little info about wt i think of biking n what bikes are to me... To me every single bike that is made out of factory is like a humanoid , possessing its own virtue and life form although its known that they are just machines running on carbon fossilites but since "it" (d bike) gives me the feeling to be free , to move ahead of others , to zoom ahead, the feeling of success, the feeling of accelerating,id rather consider it as a humanoid , .. all these are just a few of the factors that i can describe .
I got a nag for biking after i saw a moto gp accident in a sports channel wen i was in class 7,, then onwards i always wondered what a mighty creation is it ,that with just one twitch ,your loosing each and every control of a a bike..

i waited till my college started n started saving up for a bike, i wanted a 180 cc engine , enough to quench my thirst for power , mileage etc other factors.. started visiting showrooms , blog sites , xbhp, ********** , biker next door etc etc.. they were really helpful as because of them i am a more knowledgeable rider rather than being a random ride!!.. Took test rides of Pulsar 180 , Apache rtr180 ,but all these were of no use as my dad declined to give me a 180cc bike.. nagging fights yielded nil results wen i agreed for a 150 cc segmented bike ..
It was completely decided that i was going for Tvs apache rtr160 .. i was pretty much contented with what i was getting .. .. just 1 week before getting the bike ,i passed by a showroom of Yamaha which was near a shopping complex , i was driving by.. saw white bike there.. god knows what happened there , i u turned my car after covering like 1.7 km n returned to the yamaha showroom.. went inside.. n there it was ,. a beauty , a work of aspiration n magnificence that left me awestruck and i dropped my jaws gazing at it.. heart beats flew as if i was in a diferent world as if i had a crush on sumone not human, yeah , honestly i felt like that ( just emoting myself). ok ok , lets not go into my fantasy world of bikes (where i and my bike and long empty roads exists)..,..

I came back home disheartened as i wanted an apache . . n specifically tvs provided better power , mileage , n ,displacement .. but even today i really dont know what it was that changed my head ..literally screwed up my head rather...
i told my parents of changing my decision of buying The White FZs [competition white ]..
test rode it on the "adoption day" [i believe bikes are made to be adopted by their true riders or vis a versa ] ..It may sound vague but not 1 day has passed by without the thought of me seeing this bike for the first time in the showroom , the white angel , d work of art

..i have rode my bike with utmost care and attention following all the guidlines provided by experts .. i have covered 3000 kms in 3 months.

so now lets go into the real story , my biking review..
To be honest what i have realised from biking in the last three months is that the bike treats u like d way u treat it
I clean my bike every 3 days with water and remove dust everyday from it . .. Never revved d bike above 4k rpm for d first 5ookms ,and the next 500km within 6k rpm range . rode it very gently n roads , along with practice sessions every week to improve my riding abilities..

Before 500kms , I was very patient n calm even though deep down i felt frustated at times to ride in 50 kmph , even if there was a long stretch of empty road , but to me bike"s running in was more important than my own aspiration of speeding . In this period i got a mileage of 30-35 .

After 800kms it was time for my first service. Changed the engine oil , oil filter , air filter .
the bike felt healthy . after the first service , i and my friends went on a trip of 700 kms.. here i got a mileage of 43. After my bike clicked 2000kms , i changed the engine oil again..

with each passing day my passion and respect toward my bike grew. In a span of 2 months i covered around 3000 kms . 2nd service was done a few days back..
now the bike feels newer and more friendly. At the moment i am getting a mileage of 38to40..
To cut short , if a biker takes care of his bike during the running in period , the bike is sure to be the best companion for future years to come..
    live free , ride hard.
feel free to comment , criticize .

i guess that is the reason your bikes brake life is short... compared to my kinda scenario with wider roads and plain braking incresing the intensity at the last moment.. i guess that is the reason for good life... anyways different situations demand different braking. but have to admit Yamaha has done a good job with the brakes.. extremely reliable!!

My bike is almost 22,000 kms. Am still on the original brake pad. Braking is still good.
I make effective use of engine braking/engine assisted braking as well. Engine assistance is necessary especially in hilly areas.

May be that time this was my first bike, for that reason it took time to adjust.any ways now it seems fine as I am near 14k & the brakes are very biting strong.

Brakes are very good.I always go for a pre mature replacement i,e even when i can get 2k more out of it.I like the brakes to be at its best, the moment i lose the feel i get it replaced.Costs only 130Rs anyway.

and the working of the forks i mean press it hard to the limit and release and see how its coming back to original posisition
just ask the svc people to check it and take a test ride
The alloys are fine and tyres are good. The forks were loose i mean suspension was very very soft. So i got it checked and set by my local mechanic. Now everything is and feels good

Nice piece of art. But definitely feminine.

                          • Hi all,
The decoration on my bike is a "copy" of the "Midnight Special" of Yamaha, with a few variations. These are actually stickers that were made by looking at pictures downloaded of original "Midnight Special" series. Since I have also been playing a bit with the gloss/ matte finish, I did not want anything on the two side pieces of the fairing that carry the Yamaha logo, which are now matte black, but only the "flames" looking like coming from behind the fairing. Another divergence is the matte/ glossy finish on the tank....but I am afraid the matte paint there may get damaged pretty quickly. W'll see!

                            Hope you guys like it...!

You will also have noticed the aft disc brake. This was done very professionally by screwing into the drum (which had been machined) a purpose made alloy piece that I was most surprised to see that it could simply be bought on the market. This piece is also threaded and screwed in the former brake drum, then the surface onto which the disc will be fitted rectified on the lathe.

The Essin caliper was then fitted onto a KTM support, and special pieces made to support the master cylinder.

When I do something stupid, my consolation is to know that I'll do the worse one only once!

                            • I have now been riding this bike for just 1,400 km. Not much compared with some here who have now done some 20k, but enough to appreciate some great qualities of that bike.

No need to repeat what has be said again and again about the superb road holding, braking (even a tad better with the aft disc), or the very good torque starting from some 3,000 revs and constant all the way to near 7,000.

After that it is effectively quite unusual. Although the engine is still new, I can now give it some short wide open throttle and rev up to some 8,000 for a very short time only. I have never been partisan of these accelerated running-in, quite properly called "'braking in", and have treated this baby just like all other bikes I've had before, means with great care, but one should not be too shy either and to "give it a gun" at times: is not bad at all. Of course with well warmed engine!!! What I found, and I have read a few reports saying the same, is that one has to rev up in fourth gear (a good 85kmh) before clicking in fifth, otherwise the bike is really lazy around 80kmh in fifth gear. Then, what is unusual is a strange "hole", or lack of power, at about 95, which power comes back again allowing to reach 110 very easily in fact. Have not been able to go any faster: I had suddenly to break hard (Vietnam roads and Vietnam drivers: I am sure they're far worse than Indian ones!). I do not know if this will improve with time and with full running in (that should be some 3,000 km), but have read similar reports.

Another thing I do not like that much is the lighting. Of course, I am used to the powerful triple halogens of my previous bike, but this is surprisingly for a double halogen. Must precise that both lights are on simultaneously, in low and high beam, on the Fazers imported here. I shall see about improving this.

Last thing I would have liked is a more slippery seat: I like the sport riding style (when visibility and road conditions are good), and to be able move my fat-ass (well: not that fat!) inside the corner without having to stand on my foot rests even a bit, but this is what I have to do with this seat, then seat on my leg while on the bend, then have to stand up again after the corner, but prefer have my fat-ass/ leg in contact with the seat all the time, and just "slide" on it. Will be easy to change.

Altogether anyway: by far the best bike of that category one can buy in Vietnam at the moment (for the eventual VN readers of xbhp)

Excellent feedback of Fazer,I also wanted to go for rear disc brake but I feel my rear brakes are fine as it just bites up easily without any effort to give a disc brake feeling.Any way take very good care of your bike.Keep her shiny & bold..Happy riding. Also you could give your bike some style statement like rear LED tail light..Take good Care of your baby..
